Happy Halloween! At long last, the demo of Yōkaizuna Sumo has been released! You can try it on itch.io now and set an online high-score in two different endless modes! Face off against yōkai in a physics-based rouge-like shooter. The only way for you or your enemies to be defeated is by falling into the abyss. Gear up with unique weapons that knock-back or manipulate your enemies momentum with elemental powers or use a yōkai as a weapon itself!

Weapons are going to be getting their own exclusive ascensions, so now every weapon in the game has the potential to be very over powered!!

Made some updates to the leader board system! With all the new weapons to the game I figured it'd be nice to display which combination was used for each score. There will also be brand new shiny banners to unlock as well and now there's two boards for both fixed and random modes!

A new helper yōkai swims in! The mermaid like Amabie appears on shores to deliver prophecies to people regarding abundant harvests and warnings of diseases. Keeping a picture of it with you is said to protect you from these forewarned diseases! As such, the Amabie in the game will buff your shields and prevent negative effects!

Tried my hand at redesigning another old enemy from the game! Here is the Tenome! They're the ghosts of the blind who have been robbed and murdered. In their vain, they're reborn into this yōkai and haunt graveyards. If you come across one, you may end up having all of your bones sucked out of your body.

They are usually interpreted as zato guildsman with no eyes except for ones on their hands but I made it into a one handed monster that may be inspired by Zelda. c:

I've updated the model of an older enemy that's been in the game to bring it up to par with the newer enemies!

If you haven't seen it before, this is the Wanyūdō! This fiery yōkai is said to guard the gates of Hell. They roam between our world and the underworld. Anyone getting too close will have their soul taken and be dragged into Hell. The wanyūdō will keep doing this until they atone for all of their sins of their past life.

Added a new Ground Slam ability that you can get in the game! It does more damage based on weight which some items will increase. Weight makes you fall faster of course but you generally will take less knock-back. It's a trade-off but maybe it'll be worth it if you want to build around this powerful new attack!

We have a new yōkai flying in! It's the Yatagarasu! The three-legged crow is an important figure Japanese mythology and being a symbol of the sun and a servant of the sun goddess, Amaterasu. Each of its legs represent a virtue of the gods. If you manage to catch this rare yōkai, you'll get its special blessing of the three pronged attack!

Hello everyone, I got a very important update for Sumo! We heard your feedback and decided implementing a Battle Pass system will be good for the game moving forward. We totally respect your time and your money and this battle pass is a very engaging mechanic that will take up 50GB.

Take to the skies with the new* weapon, the Kazebuko! Not only are its gusts of wind and tornadoes powerful, they also offer movement capabilities if used right!

So i tried your game today and i really enjoyed the gameplay loop and the concept of a sumo fps. But i was a bit disappointed that my character did not feel or sound particularly heavy. Would you consider adding an option to change the footsteps/landing sounds and effects? I understand if it's a bit too niche to be worth the effort but it would greatly enhance the experience of people like me who wanted to feel like they were playing as a yokai-hunting sumo wrestler.

Hey, I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the old demo of the game! Regarding the sound design, I do plan on revisiting some of the existing sounds before releasing the new update for the game, and I'll keep your feedback in mind! I do prefer more fast and agile movement myself but I'd like to give players more options for different play styles! I do like the concept of being able to become a heavy wrestler. Perhaps I can add some items to the new Ascension system that add weight but will reduce knock back? Maybe even add a ground slam ability? Thanks for the feedback, I'll be sure to explore the idea!
