disclaimer: this is all about ships not because I'm trying to reduce the characters to just shipping, it's because this is a yosano blog and I want to comment on possible yosano ships for bsd part 2.
There's jane austen who's most likely going to show up because how could she not, I was thinking about what her ability would be and I can't come up with anything other than names.. Like pride and prejudice or sense and sensibility, her books are all about rich people having or losing money, era gossip and falling in love (very short and lazy summary) I don't know how that would translate to an ability, but asagiri will find a way, I believe... Anyway I don't know how she'd act, fight or look like so I can't rank her on possible yosano ships.
EMILY BRONTË. THE author of wuthering heights, which will most likely be the main inspiration for her character. Asagiri do not fuck this up I'm begging you. Conjure up in your head the image of a beautifully morally grey, dark skinned romani woman with a carefully crafted backstory about how the prejudice and racism she suffered on her upbringing and in the present shaped the person she is today, with ghost powers. The dream. This is the dream right here.
But most likely just a dream, because I don't trust asagiri to handle the only non paper white person in his manga being evil/morally grey, and also a woman, double trouble for him. I'm saying evil because based on my (limited, because I never finished wuthering heights...) knowledge of heathcliff, he really sucks as a person. Like hard. Everyone in the book absolutely sucks in many many ways, but he's very multifaceted and many of his terrible deeds are a product of his upbringing and sociatal context. I'll quit it with the wuthering heights analysis because this is a bsd shipping post for god's sake but this is important.
Maybe asagiri would go with the catherine route, forget heathcliff, make her white, and keep the ghost related ability...
Anyhow, an abilty dealing with the already dead paired with yosano who values life over everything else is perfect material for ENDLESS fanfiction. It's like I can see it already... The version of her I created in my head is favourite character material and I'll never get over it.
About the carmilla situation, I think having le fanu as the character of carmilla instead of the author would be fun. Mostly because I'm biased and I love her, but the only instance of an actual book character being in bsd is adam frankenstein, and he's paired with the author herself, mary shelley (on stormbringer).
So I pitch: le fanu as the baron that slays carmilla at the end of the book, but in bsd he's a vampire hunter still in pursuit of her. Allowing carmilla to be present in canon as the character, together with the author of her book. Carmilla can have toxic yuri with some order of the clocktower lady, as a treat. Maybe even agatha, who knows..
