【Dinner seats and farm tour for 1% For The Planet Auction】  I’m thrilled to be participating in this project by @1percentftp for the first time. We are offering dinner for two at this auction, along with a morning farm tour led by me. The winning bidder can choose their preferred date for dinner and the tour between December 17th and 19th. The entire amount raised will be donated to 1% For The Planet and used for activities protecting the global environment. Details are here.

I’ve always wanted to directly contribute to environmental protection through our work while connecting with guests. The auction closes in one week on November 10th. We have been part of the 1% FOR THE PLANET @1percentftp members, donating 1% of sales to NPOs involved in environmental conservation. I learned about this from the respected Okamoto san of BEAU PAYSAGE. ⁡ Without ingredients—gifts from nature—we couldn’t create any single dish. That’s why I’ve always thought to give back in some way to help protect the planet, even just a little. 1% of the money paid by guests is donated primarily to NPOs working on climate change initiatives and those protecting local oceans and forests. And, in our daily operations at monk, we return nearly all food scraps and waste to compost at our farm(reducing at least 100kg of waste monthly). We minimize plastic and paper use, including vacuum packaging. We contract with an electricity provider using renewable energy. Above all, we believe valuing and cooking local ingredients sourced within our reach sends a message to our guests. This year, Kyoto experienced an unusually hot summer again. The more I learn about environmental issues and climate change, the more hopeless it can feel. The situation is clearly critical, but I want to keep doing what I can and share the message with our guests. If each of us can make even a 1% better choice for the future... Especially for monk’s next decade, I want to focus our efforts on this. We’re also preparing a new project with 1% FOR THE PLANET. It will be released soon, so please look forward to it. ⁡ 私たちは2023年より1% FOR THE PLANET @1percentftp というコミュニティに参加し、全ての売り上げの１％を地球環境保全に関わるNPOに寄付しています。尊敬するBEAU PAYSAGE岡本さんから、この団体のことを知ることができました。私たちのような小さいレストランでは参加しているところは少ないかもしれません。 ⁡ 自然からのギフトである食材なしでは、料理は何一つ作ることができません。だから、その地球環境を少しでも守るため、何かの形で返すことができればとずっと考えていました。ゲストが支払ったお金の1%は、私たちを通して、主に気候変動に対する活動をしているNPO、また地域の海や森を守る活動をしているNPOに寄付させて頂いています。 また、monkの日々の仕事の上でも、生ごみはほぼ全て畑のコンポストに返す（毎月、少なくとも100kg以上のゴミが削減できたと思います）。真空パックを含むプラスチックや紙を極力使わない。電力は再生可能エネルギーを使った電力会社と契約する。そして何より、可能な限り自分たちの手の届く範囲で仕入れた食材に価値を置き、料理することがお客様に対するメッセージになると考えています。 今年も京都は今までにないくらい暑い夏でした。環境問題、気候変動は学べば学ぶほど絶望的な気持ちになることもあります。危機的な状況にあるのは明らかですが、可能な限りできることを続け、メッセージをシェアしていければ。そしてそれぞれが未来に対して1%でも良い選択をしていくことができれば。特にmonkの次の10年はそういった事により力を入れていきたいと考えています。 1% FOR THE PLANETとも新たな企画を近々リリース予定です。楽しみにして頂ければと思います。

【monk 10th Year Anniversary Party at Club METRO】 ⁡ この12月、monkは10周年を迎えます。 ⁡ まずはこの10年の間に来てくださった全てのお客様、どうもありがとうございました。このmonkという場所で、人生の数時間を過ごし、何かしらの思い出を持ち帰ってくれたとすれば、それだけで本当に奇跡だなと思います。 そして食材、ワインや酒の生産者さん。それを運んで下さる方、薪屋さん、大家さん、デザイナーさん、器作家さん。書ききれない程のいつもお世話になっている方々の存在なしでは、お店を開けることはできません。本当にありがとうございます。 今までmonkで働いてくれた、何人ものスタッフとインターン。それぞれの仕事がmonkの一部として今もありありと残っているし、人生の大切な時間をここで過ごしてくれて心からありがたく思っています。世界中に散らばる皆の幸せと成功をいつも祈っています。そして最後に何より、いつもやりたいようにやらせてくれている大切な家族の存在に心から感謝しています。 ⁡ 10年続けることは、スタートした時の一つの目標でした。2015年12月にオープンして、数週間後、身体も気持ちもほんとぎりぎりで（今もですが）これを10年続けるなんて絶対無理と思ったのを、その時歩いていた鹿ヶ谷通の映像とともによく覚えています。誰にも知られないスタートで、ノーゲストの夜もたくさんありました。 今回なんとか一つの通過点ですが、とはいえ尊敬する先輩方、中東さんやBOSSさんや斉須さんに比べたら私など見習い以下。行けるところまで1日1cmずつ進み、monkの純度と強度をより上げて行こうと思っています。 ⁡ さて、今まで周年のお祝いなど一切したことがなかったmonkですが、10周年は特別、一生に一度ということで、京都の伝説的なクラブ、METROを貸し切ってイベントします！ ⁡ 食事はmonk/Baduチームが、OB,OGも巻き込みシンプルな料理とワインをご用意します。そしてスペシャルゲストとして、近くの尊敬する先輩、cenciさん @cenci.kyoto も参加してくれることになりました！ ⁡ DJとしてYukari BBさん。 @yukaribb monkの食事をいつも楽しみに来て下さる、そして個人的にも大好きなDJをお迎えします。 そして、Luca Delphiのライブ。 @lucadelphi 僕にとって本当に特別なアーティストで、monkで彼女の音楽がかからない日はありません。10年の特別な日に、彼女が歌ってくれるなんて。 ⁡ 12/14 (日)13:00 - 17:00のSunday Afternoon Party。 Music and Entrance Feeとして1000円。子供無料。家族連れもウェルカムです。もちろん予約は不要。フードはキャッシュオンリーでお願いします！ ⁡ 今まで支えてくださったお客様。特にずっと来てくれていたけど、（私が言うのも申し訳ないのですが）最近予約が難しくて来れないという方。会えたら嬉しいです。そして日々お世話になっている関係者、友人への感謝を込めてこの会を開きます。もちろん、monkへまだ来たことない方でも。老若男女問わず、日曜の午後、良い時間を過ごすことができれば。 ⁡ monkに来る前に籍入れて来ました！って言ってそこから毎年その時期にもう多分7年来てくれる方もいる。妊婦さんで初めて来てくれた方も、もうその子が小学生になっている。 みなさんの10年の日々と共にお祝いできたら嬉しく思います。 ⁡ monk 今井義浩

We are excited to announce opening a new restaurant on March 1st named "Badu".

It's a casual, a la carte, wine bar Izakaya style. It will be run by Zach and Hiroki, who worked monk for a long time.

First, I really appreciate all the team who work together for this place.

Building owner : Oku-san who keep this beautiful 112 years old  house.

Design direction: Teruhiro Yanagihara Studio

Construction : Raku

Original Furniture : amber furniture

Grill Station : Takao-san

Garden : Narui-san

Logo, Web Design : Naoto Kishi-san

I have never thought about opening 2nd place. But, I met passionate, and amazing 2 guys Zach and Hiroki. We shared an amazing couple of years with them at monk. And I thought I want to have a space for their future. And another reason is,  I had an experience that my ex-boss gave me a chance to manage a new restaurant 15 years ago. It was truly a life changing experience and I was thinking that I have to pay back this opportunity to someone, someday in my life. 

I am really appreciative to have this opportunity, in perfect timing and meeting. I really hope that this place brings happiness for many people.

新しいお店をオープンします。3月1日。名前は"Badu"。

monkで長く働いてくれているザックと大藤がメインで立ち、カジュアルなアラカルト、ワインバー、居酒屋スタイルからおまかせまで。

この店のオープンまでの長いプロジェクトに関わってくれた全ての方に感謝します。

大正元年の建物を保存し受け継いで来てくれた大家さん。

デザインディレクションはTERUHIRO YANAGIHARA STUDIO柳原さん。

施工は洛の川端さん、米川さん。

オリジナルの家具はamberfurnitureさん。

炭台の製作で白石たかおさん。

ロゴ、ウェブはmonkオープン前からずっとお世話になっている岸直人さん。

鋭意制作中の庭もずっとお世話になっている成井さん。

ドリームチームで、素晴らしい空間を立ち上げることができました。

正直、二店舗目をやろうなんて思ったこともなかったのですが、2人の意欲と成長、心持ちに出会い、その未来のための場所を作ることができればと思えたこと。

また、私の修行先のenbocaの社長が、駆け出しの頃に新店舗を任せてくれて成長させて頂いた経験から、それを自分の生涯でもいつか誰かに返したいという思いがあったこと。

ご縁とタイミングが重なり、このような場を作ることができ、心から感謝しています。この場所が、たくさんの人の幸せな時間を過ごす場所になるよう、切に祈っています。

I announced that we are closed from February 4 to 12, but the plan is changed. We will open these dates and reservations are opened by Online now. Also, We will open Saturday January 25th and February 1st.

【Saturday Wine Bar / Izakaya Style Pop- UP】日本語　下に We are exited to announce the kick off of our new project. It is wine bar/Izakaya style Pop-Up running by monk staff Zach, Hiroki and Masato on every Saturday at monk. ⁡ It will be more casual, a la carte style, (Please notice NO PIZZA on the menu！), but ingredients, philosophy and passion for cooking is inherited from monk. ⁡ We just opened reservations for June 22 and 29 on monk’s website now (please wait for more dates in July). It will be 2 hour seatings, and you can pick from 16:00, 18:00 or 20:00. And same as monk, we ask that taking credit card number for deposits but it is just hold so you will be return that payment later. And again, please do not come in front of monk by taxi. Check our “access” page before you show up.

Dear Guest

Please do not come directly in front of Monk by taxi. As we mention and even have a confirmation box on our reservation page, we ask that you refrain from riding up, or calling an Uber to the front of our restaurant.

The road in front of Monk is very narrow and a very quiet residential area. Please respect our neighbor’s environment.

We suggest that you get off the taxi on Shishigatani-Dori street or Senshin Bashi Bridge, go up to philosopher’s path, and walk on this special location to our restaurant. I am thinking that the before and after walk at philosopher’s path all part your experience of monk.
