I also dig the name Torrence, and you can call me Storm for funsies! my family members refer to me with this when they wanna hear a rundown of the local forecast

I don’t know everything yet but I’ve loved weather all my life & I’ve been doing more research & I took a college meteorology class! I don’t plan to become a meteorologist, I just love weather 😌

What is this?

this is my blog for everything weather, from reading out random surface map forecasts to giving barometric readings to cool fun facts — anything!

you can also ask me any questions you have regarding stuff I post & other meteorological things, or show me photos & videos of weather phenomena you’ve seen!

Blog categories

the way I label with tags is to organize how one might find certain posts, should you want to look back on something old or discover something new

#my asks — how I organize asks I receive, which often deal with important questions and information about things. these are often also tagged with other relevant labels, listed below.

#weather terms — a category where I file all my ‘Term of the day!’ posts, each of them discussing a new and different meteorological term. this is usually paired with a tag of the term name itself.

#surface weather map — a broad category for any posts that deal with surface weather maps, like when I look at fronts, systems, barometric readings for locations, station models, etc.

#temperatures — for when I discuss temperatures near me & other places, often in relation to fronts. sometimes I just like discussing stand-out temperatures.

#barometric reading — usually for when I discuss the latest 😲 shocking 😲 reading on my beloved aneroid barometer, mostly because I get excited watching pressure changes. this is also for when I look at maps with station models.

#weather news — used for covering current events in weather, plus activity where I live

#medical assistance — for whenever I happen to post about people injured because of natural disasters & need some help with treatments.

#optical phenomena — for anything that classifies as such

#cloud log — daily cloud photos (or as daily as I can get)

I also want to apologize for a lack of activity here the past year! I wanted to be able to teach people here and I still love teaching people when presented the opportunity, but eventually it got exhausting and I began to burn out. It got to be a lot typing out things for constant posts, but I hope to post educational bits here and there when I feel up to it. Also good on just posting photos and radar screenshots, and if someone needed help understanding something I’d be so happy to help!

Sturgeon Supermoon 8/1/2023

Various edited images of the supermoon tonight. Three are edited to look warmer and more orange-yellow to mimic the color it had to the naked eye while rising above the horizon.

Also minor edits to hide the crunchy effect of my telescope not being quite powerful enough to make the image crystal clear. 🌕💫👌🏻

hello, all! sorry about this, but I’m gonna vaguepost a bit here about tornado misinformation…

if there is a tornado ripping through your town, and it looks as though it’s suddenly weakening and the funnel cloud is no longer visible, that does not mean the tornado has abruptly ended. if you can see debris being kicked up on the ground below the tornado, and see debris flying around in the air, the tornado is still present and can still be dangerous.

tornadoes are known to change strength, speed, direction, shape, and color at any time, and I don’t want anybody to make any potentially deadly mistakes for themselves!

also, the U.S. government is not artificially creating tornadoes or otherwise modifying weather to create tornadoes. I see people coming up with conspiracy theories about perfectly normal tornado behavior and I don’t want anyone caught up in worrying about that sort of thing.

sorry for the lack of cloud log yesterday, it was pouring buckets out there. so far today we find sweet relief with the sight of dramatic towering cumulus clouds against a blue sky, but more storms are forming in the area according to radar
