Basic Guide to Textures

Ah! Textures! Lovely magical tools which can transform your simple picture to a masterpiece. OK! Masterpieces might be too much but... 

Hey! You can’t deny the fact they add an ‘oomph’ factor. So how exactly do we use them? where to start? and how? questions & questions.When I started my PS journey, I wished ...only if I can have some help ...some guidance, something to start with.Thanks to all those generous souls who share their expertise..I got better with time.

I use PS CS 5 … but I am hopeful this might be little help in any editing applications.

There are 2 basic ways, you can use a texture

1.Texture on picture

2 Picture on texture

And next comes two important tools ...

Eraser 

Blend modes

we will stick to eraser & First picture for starters. Will explore blend modes later .

What did I do here? Simply picked eraser( a soft one) with 0% hardness selected the texture layer and erased unnecessary bits. 

Wait! But what about buildings I can see behind picture of Helly?

Here is the tip.

Add a blank canvas at bottom and fill it it black ( This can be first step too) > select the picture of Helly  > Pick eraser >  remove the Background

Add basic adjustments like colour, Contrast ,brightness, or filters of your choice and text! - Play around with opacity of layers & You must be done.

Now for the second - Picture on texture. 

Just erased the Background from Pic  ( That’s it ..) And add adjustments. 

Voila! Its done! Happy Learning!
