helloOoOoOo, everyone! 🥰 my name is ryan & i'm very excited for opening night (or day, depending where you are)! 🥳 i can't wait to get to know all of you, as well as your muses! speaking of, i'm here to present to you the maknae, lead vocal, lead dancer, & visual of sopapop, lee dodam! 🤍 you'll find some brief information about him below, & you're welcome to read his blog if you have the time/space to do so! for plotting, please 💖 this post & i'll reach out to you asap! i prefer plotting on discord, so if you do, too, send me your handle & i'll add you!

I.

in brief, dodam was born & raised in seoul by a single mother. in order to better support them, she often shuffled him around to various modeling competitions, talent agencies, & other sectors of the entertainment industry to get him jobs. he's been working full-time since around the age of 4. he was pulled out of school & has been the breadwinner of his home since well before he became an adult. now he's an idol & the work only continues, but it comes with a bigger price to pay. is he burnt out? sure, but he loves the attention too much to feel down about it 100%.

instead, whenever he can, he's doing his best to focus on himself. with sasaengs skulking around putting him at danger of exposure, he knows he needs to be careful, but there's a part of him that almost wants to be bad, to be a controversial figure who has an image that allows him to act unruly, but he knows that comes with immense risks. in midasfm, he will go on the journey of figuring out what he really wants to do, & will definitely be making sure that more of his "needs" are met along the way.

II.

there is nothing dodam loves more than life itself. even though he's never lived too much of one himself, he yearns for it. he aches to be icarus, even if it means that his wings are torched by the flares of the sun & he crash lands into the earth below. he fully accepts the weight of the risk & doesn't think it should dampen his want for the adventure, the want to catapult himself through the sky in a manner that's angelic in appearance, yet sprightly & wild in action. there's always a heaping dose of mischief in everything that dodam does. if you know him well at all, you'll understand that.

if you don't know him, getting to know him is easy. maybe it's cliché to liken his energy to that of a golden-doodle, one that's stoked to see its owner after they return home from work, but that's precisely the vibe. when you're his friend—or hell, even if you merely choose to give him your attention—he'll engulf you in his world, fully unloading everything that's on his mind, in his heart, in such a pure & undiluted way that it's hard to see him as rude. he'll wrap you up in his life like this because he wants you to remain close, but isn't afraid to go at it alone either. exploring is what gives him stories to tell & experiences to share. he hopes that you'll do the same. he hopes you'll revel together.

this, however, may put off more subdued spirits & shy personality types. he requires a lot of attention—asking for this attention is one of the ways he expresses love—& he takes up a lot of space, & he likely won't notice that his intensely bright aura is totally overwhelming you, sorry to say, but he never truly means to cause discomfort. in fact, he responds well if you tell him to buzz off. dodam also has a knack for speaking rather impulsively, often emphatically, which may catch a person off-guard. he doesn't have secrets. if you're his friend, you'll know every detail about him—trust.

on his profile page, i say that his authenticity, his sheer rawness of self, will either be refreshing or jarring, & i stand by that. there's nothing he wants more than to express himself. his true self. he will never make himself palatable, & though he keeps his boundaries with his fan-base clear, to those in his life, he will only ride for you if you ride for him, too. the real him. the true him. not just the visual of sodapop, but the human being that exists outside of his career.

III.

as far as connections go, i prefer to brainstorm ideas together. however, here are just some tidbits about how dodam interacts with people, just to give you an idea!

if you're a man he deems handsome, the odds of him openly hitting on you are sky-high. he is not shy about his gayness, even if he can't say it publicly. he's flirtatious. however, if you don't feel the same, he responds very well to rejection, or to simply being informed that you're not into men, etc. he'll still wanna try and be friends!

growing up, most of the friends he made were girls. he gets along very well with women, as they've always been more understanding of him. his mom made sure that he grew up respecting women & girls. yes, he may be gay & he may be a man, but he cares a lot about equality in his country & hates that the social climate is so fraught.

dodam loves to be babied. he's never once felt babied in his entire life, as he was often the provider, so whenever anyone—particularly his seniors—give him sweet attention, coddle him, cuddle him, pinch his cheeks, etc., he'll eat it up by the spoonful. he'll melt into your hands. it's the same with romance. if you're more of a giver of affection, he'll gladly be the receiver. pun not intended, but... 🤪

he's competitive, so if you were a male child star during the same era as he was & you were up for similar campaigns/roles/etc., he'd make a cool rival. he can be a little more of a gary than an ash (iykyk, if you don't... 🤷‍♂️), but it's all in good fun. he still loves competition, even now. he'd adore to have some cute, playful rivalries with his pals; even if it's just who is better at smash bros, etc.!

the first domino to fall is always the hardest. then, it becomes a matter of inertia: free fall, let the destruction trickle, one centimeter by the next — till what's left is nothing more than the snarl he carves together and the second-hand ripples of nonchalance that starts to prime his brows flat.

laughter from dodam comes at the splitting hairs of his own patience, and the retort chips away at it even further. there's already echoings of a meeting that stamps his name with the consequential admonishment he can chisel out from a mile away. but now, there's no sense of paying attention: everything becomes a moot point.

tonight, he'll let inertia play its own role, and he'll become nothing more than the manifestation of gravity.

the half-hearted stunted laughter dies as soon as it hits the space between them. his gaze flickers towards the corner of the room, and by now, it's the presumptuous humor that centralizes the thrum of his voice. "you think i'm boring, yet what are you?" his eyes drift towards dodam, narrowed in. "you're a fucking stereotype — no originality, one-dimensional. if i'm honest — you're really weird as fuck."

by now, there's no attempt at hushing the masses nor is there a reason to conceal the hungry eyes of the room. after all, every reaction has an equal and opposite reaction — jaeyoon's just manifests in a waging war he refuses to lose.

"can talking shit about company seniors be passed as a pathetic 'oops' because you're a walking stereotype?" his teeth press against his tongue down before the waves of whiskey begin to take full-force. loosening his spine, his voice tapers:

"'here's a lesson: if you talk shit, remember there's always a hit."

dodam rolls his eyes and continues to laugh, honestly unfazed by words that leave jaeyoon's mouth. while he's in no way saying that the insults he hurled at his senior are strikingly original themselves, being called things like a 'stereotype', or 'weird', have been a constant in his life. they're also things he's learned to accept about himself.

has he ever felt insecure knowing that, in many ways, he crosses off a lot of the boxes of what people think it is to be a stereotypical gay man in modern society? of course—that goes without saying. he's been teased for possessing these characteristics for many years now. however, regardless of how flamboyant he is, or how feminine his mannerisms are, or how he's not afraid to use the full range of pitch his voices offers when emphasizing his points, he finds it unfair to be callously lumped into a category of people instead of being seen as an individual, especially by someone who doesn't understand him, and never will.

"okay?" he replies, shrugging his shoulders. "the thing is, i'd be more upset if you actually knew who i was, but i know that you don't, so frankly, i don't trust your judgment of me, hyung." he'd call him sunbae, but as far as dodam's aware, he's been in the industry longer than jaeyoon has, so that wouldn't apply here. "me calling you boring is subjective, not an attack on you as a person. knowing that you took it as one speaks volumes about how you feel about yourself, though." it's now when he realizes that the intense energy that surrounds them may be permeating through the atmosphere, making him even more aware of the fact that they're in public.

"is that a threat? like, are you actually going to hit me?" there's a taunting cadence to how he speaks, his voice still low enough to keep their conversation more intimate. "go ahead. i dare you. if you do though, it's going to look way worse for you than it will for me. one of your juniors gets a little lippy with you, then you decide to punch him in the face? ... unhinged behavior." after a brief pause, he takes a deep breath, then another step closer to jaeyoon. "look, i'm sorry that i brushed you off and gave you attitude. like, yes, i think you're boring, but i shouldn't be running my mouth about it."

"phaze was great tonight, right?" he begins, sighing sweetly. "they're all so hot... like, i don't understand how the stage underneath them didn't melt because of it." despite the decrease in alcohol-induced elation, he's clearly still loose-lipped... whoops. "blue and chaea were okay, too, i guess. i... wasn't really paying attention, i won't lie." it's then when he's given his vice, and before he tosses it back in one gulp, he looks to the other once more. "oh, do you want one, too? it's peachy... like me!"

blink once, and the stage flashes by quicker than you know it. blink again, and the night's subdued into a long deranged, slow-motion of warped hellos and goodbyes from the bodies in the periphery. luckily, he learns a little trick here and there — years of flitting in the same circles primes him to know, a quick one-two glass of whiskey straight down presses play on life once more.

one quick scan around the room, he spots chaea and the grumblings of a fight to be delicately plucked and disseminated into hell for another hour. across the other side of the room, there's seoho — he'll save that quick cigarette break after the next round. so, for now, joo jaeyoon plays the card of anonymity, just for this hour.

back at the bar, his fingers tap against the grain of some house music that's bumping bass through the speakers. the evening's already slipping past his hands, and he's lost himself to the daze of alcohol now thrumming in his veins. mood light, he motions with his free hand for the bartender for the next round: uno mas, an omen for a good night (he hopes).

but god damn, tonight's not his night.

instead, the omission of his own morsel of patience becomes splintered — straight down the middle. where his mouth hesitates into faux pretenses of ignorance is bliss, his ears catch on quickly. first call out, his own name. the second, a friend.

his face grimaces, brows furrowing to the indiscreet shrill of a voice now echoing on. one quick glance to his left — his patience: zero.

"do you ever.... like, shut the fuck up?" there's no hiding the bolstered lilt of his voice, nor does his narrowed gaze point to anything but the obvious. in any sense, tonight: anger is bliss. jaeyoon turns, now completely facing some face that's merely a stranger. "or do you always decide to run your fucking mouth to go only to realize you can't back up half the shit you talk."

this scenario is all too familiar to lee dodam. he says something with his whole chest, the wrong person is on the receiving end of his words, and what happens next is awkward, regardless of how it shakes out. though, jaeyoon seems to be coming at him with much more ferocity than he's used to receiving; the other's mocking tone and red-hot temperament causing dodam's eyes to widen slightly. not exactly out of fear, but definitely out of shock.

most of the time, at least when it comes to confrontations such as this one, the cherubic quality of his features allows him to escape unscathed; the plumpness of his cheeks, the twinkle of his gaze, the pouty shape of his lips — they paint a picture of innocence, much to his chagrin sometimes. however, he doesn't get the impression that joo jaeyoon—especially someone like joo jaeyoon—will soften toward him in that way, so instead of relying on his pristine visual for back-up, dodam knows now that he needs to become a formidable foe.

at the root of it all, he's never been the type to cower. maybe he should be. it would save him from a lot of arguments. that'll never be true to who he is though, so instead of bowing his head and skulking away with his tail between his legs after the clear grossness of jaeyoon's words, dodam turns his entire body toward his senior, properly facing him now, then literally laughs out loud; half at the soloist's expense, half in a way that makes it seem like he was just told a hilarious joke (as if jaeyoon is even capable of cracking one).

"wow... that was a lot of aggression for me saying that i didn't pay attention to you," he quips, then licks his lips. "what, are you so used to people bending over backwards to get a glimpse of you that, the mere idea of someone turning their head away from you makes you mad?" pausing, he takes a moment to give the other a once over, then grimaces; ensuring that his expression obviously displays disgust, even with the lighting being as low and moody as it is.

"look, i think you're boring. fuck me for having an opinion, i guess. it's all good though because i don't think i'm your target demographic anyway, so really, does having my attention even matter to you?"

daewon recognizes the voice before he puts a face and name to it. bright, curious, and bold—that can only be dodam. 

his gaze flickers between the faces in the crowd, surveying the exchange of conversation as currency: prying eyes that watch closely, craning their necks to hear a little more—all clearly trying to catch some scandal or industry secret. off to the corner, there’s jaeyoon laughing a little too hard at something an editor’s said, and weaving through the throng of bodies is haneul, his brows narrowed in a tension that daewon’s to fault for. 

“yeah, they were,” it’s a throwaway comment. he was distracted tonight; attention rarely fastened on the stage for more reasons than one.  

then, he turns to face dodam, watching him toss back the shot with a grin threatening to split the seam of his lips. daewon waves a hand, crossing his arms on the bar counter as he leans in, his fingers still nursing the same drink from the past hour—restraint, how unnatural. “how many of those have you had already?” it’s not a serious question, but he pauses like he’s expecting a genuine answer anyway.

the instant that dodam recognizes that it's daewon he's speaking to, his expression immediately softens; his vulpine gaze fawning over the contours of his senior's profile within milliseconds, delighted. he has no idea how anyone can look like so immaculate in real life, and that's coming from him—a person known for having extremely high visual appeal in his own regard. it's different from daewon's though, but different in a way that dodam finds hopelessly attractive.

a part of him is embarrassed for being so stupefied by guys who possess traditional handsomeness and masculinity, but he genuinely can't help himself. men like daewon are his biggest weakness. tall with incredible proportions and strong musculature is one thing, but adding a face etched by divine hands on top of all that? it should be illegal. nevertheless, dodam's just glad he gets treated to being in daewon's presence every now and again. it's always a pleasure.

"just enough for you to have to keep an eye on me for the rest of the night..." he teases, an impish grin overtaking him. while high coverage cosmetics conceal any blush that stains his face, the lobes of his ears reveal that he's somewhat buzzed; his once pale skin resembling that of a strawberry's now. "i'm kidding. i'm alright, don't worry. this is probably my last one of the night." leaning a little further into him, he's close enough to feel daewon's body heat, but far enough that it's comfortable for them.

"though, don't get me wrong, i definitely wouldn't mind hanging out with you all night long. it's been awhile." sodapop's schedule hasn't slowed down much over the last several months, so carving out any free time for anything has been impossible and he's sure that daewon has been busy, too. nights like this, even though he's technically still working, are some of the only reprieves he gets. "that, and i don't know. i guess i just like having your attention."

dodam's explanation of why he doesn't like blue—tl;dr, too straight—is mind-blowing. daon's willing to bet real money that at least half the members of phaze are straight too, but this isn't exactly a conversation that he'd like to be caught having, and dodam's gaydar is probably a whole lot better than his anyway. so he just shakes his head, grinning in an endeared, humored way. "god, i hope i don't get on your bad side," he jokes. "you're harsh."

then again, that's just another reason why he likes dodam so much - honesty like this is a rarity when everyone is stuck on trying to be palatable. he's guilty of it himself; he'd never voice any negative opinions in a setting like this. he's too worried about saving face, too scared of burning bridges. the conversation shifts from one ridiculous topic to another (thankfully, this one is safer); daon had, in a way, asked for it. still, he huffs out an astonished laugh.

he accepts the shot-glass from dodam as he considers the ridiculous question at hand - honestly, he doesn't know who he'd be. he downs the shot, then shoots a mischievous look to his friend. "i think i'm bowser," he decides. he reaches over to grab dodam's shoulder and squeezes it.

still grinning, he mirrors dodam's taunting energy: "i wanna keep you to myself."

"look, maybe i'm wrong and he's less dull, and less straight, than i think he is," he begins, rolling his eyes. "it's just... the vibe i get. my radar typically never fails me, but stranger things have happened, i suppose." daon seems to be treading through these anniversary party waters much more carefully than dodam is, and for good reason, he assumes. sure, this is a semi-private event, but it's full to the brim with high-profile industry execs, other celebrities, and photographers. for every harmless school of fish swimming around, there's likely to be a few sharks watching their every move, waiting to strike. maybe dodam should watch his mouth, be more mindful or whatever, even if the prospect of it is cumbersome to him.

sighing, he lets a half-smile tug at one corner of his mouth and decides to do his best to follow his senior's lead. it would be one thing if the only person in danger of getting devoured was him, but he would hate if his callousness had any negative outcome for daon. he's not the one spewing nonsense about other attendees. what he is doing, though, is being rather cute. dodam's never felt that particular spark between them. he chocks it up to him being too young and possibly too male for any of that, but that doesn't mean he can't enjoy the squeeze to his shoulder and the sweet nothings.

he's gotten used to playing pretend with these men and wonders when it'll ever be real. all his friends tell him that he's still young and that he'll meet someone eventually, but he doesn't trust them. at least playing make-believe gives him a taste of something.

"i guess being held captive by you doesn't sound like that bad of a deal," dodam plays, scrunching his nose. "something tells me you'll find some way to make being all caged up fun. at least i hope you would... if not, don't underestimate me, hyung, i will find a way to escape and make your life a living hell." then, he pauses; vulpine gaze giving daon a proper once-over for the first time since they started talking. he's not super tall, nor is he extremely toned, but there's a handsomeness to him dodam appreciates.

his features are quite masculine, which is a plus, and there's a scorpio-coded magnetism to him that's undeniable. it's likely one of the reasons he's so great on-stage. "you know, maybe it's because i'm a little buzzed, but you look really good tonight. you clean up well, hyung. bowser's got nothin' on you."
