When working on a piece of magic, put on some music and let your body improvise. Faster, slower, geekier... try whatever pops into your mind at the moment. Watch yourself, and you'll discover wonders you never would have dreamed of if you only used your brain!
Working to build a more successful career as a performer? Do this. Take some time to really define your purpose, your mission, for yourself. You might need to let the ideas simmer for a day or two. But once you're ready, take some time and write down your top three. Then write them again in a way that's more concise, more inspiring for you. Remember: People will buy WHY you do what you do faster than they'll respond to what you actually do. It pays to have a clear, concise way to tell them.
I advocate examining situations from different perspectives, which can mean from different personalities. Try putting on these different "hats" to look at your magic: the analyst, the emotionalist, the skeptic, the enthusiast, the formalist... and whoever else you can think of. Your ability to create and perform original work will increase exponentially!

If our minds create most of the reality we experience, what can happen when we change our minds? Marketers already know that what we feed our minds becomes our reality... and so do magicians. We can help you learn the secrets of changing minds, and therefore changing realities. I hope you'll join us!
Creating Maigc in Business Seminar
We're on an adventure of re-invention. The new YourMagic is dedicated to bringing the secrets of magicians and other performers to organizations and businesses changing our world. Performers have secret ways of transforming themselves quickly, of getting and directing attention, and of engaging their audiences in stories that can transform them almost instantaneously.
We believe you have those same abilities and more -- and we believe we can help you shed your limiting beliefs and better access those abilities.
Our products look like informational and inspirational talks cloaked in entertaining magic. They look like workshops, books, and blog posts like this one. In fact, they are experiences we've designed to empower you to change yourself and the world. I hope you'll join us!
Acting IS magic if you think about it. The actor makes you believe (or at least suspend your disbelief) that they are someone other than who they are, experiencing things passionately that aren't really happening, in a way that triggers your emotions. Most magicians fail on that last part - triggering memorable emotions. Our Acting & Performance Techniques can help you fix that, if you're a magical performer (or, honestly, if you're a juggler, clown, speaker, or other solo performer). Learn more here:

Leonardo is one of my fore fascinating heroes. In this quote from one of his notebooks, he puts his finger on something far more profound than it might seem at first glance. In fact, virtually everything we think we know is just opinion. Real knowledge is limited by our senses, which gather only a small amount of what's really out there, our limited education and prior knowledge, and our restrictive beliefs.
Once you begin to accept this, your mind opens to vast new possibilities, new ways of seeing -- and new ways to affect the world around us.
New physical and digital technologies are wonderful and amazing, but without the ability to open our minds and adjust our thinking, they barely scratch the surface of the possible world they open up for humanity.
This is my friend David Morey, who will be joining me to teach our Creating Business Magic Seminar.
David Morey: Chairman of DMG Global, author of 4 best-selling books, and one of the nation’s top keynote speakers. David has advised 20 winning global presidential campaigns, 5 Nobel Peace Prize winners, and a who’s who of Fortune 500 leaders. As a magician—a hobby gone way out of control—he’s the founder of Washington Magic and has performed at the Official Inaugural Ball for the 44th President of the United States and on stages around the world.
Our books, Creating Magic in Business and The Wizards' Way complement one another with similar ideas, expressed from slightly different points of view. We've had great success with this seminar in an earlier incarnation, and thought it seemed a good time to update and repeat. I hope you can join us!

One of the first secrets of successful magic is to be prepared. Even over-prepared. That means rehearsing more than you think you have to. It means having back-ups for your props. It means having rehearsed your “outs” for when things go wrong. If you can prepare to the point where you are always WAY ahead of the audience, you’ll be ready for performing.
I’ve been re-reading my own book, and I have to say, it’s not bad! If you’re a performer of any kind, but especially if you are a magician, and you are looking for some inspiration, some ideas to help move your performances up a notch or two...I think you’ll find some really useful material there.
Beyound Deception, Vol. 1 is availabe now in paperback on Amazon. I’ll keep posting snippets here...maybe they’ll help you even if you never get it together to buy that book!
I had a wonderful professor in college. A brilliant and inspiring lecturer who never failed to engage us, to challenge us and make us love what he was teaching. Until one day. I’m sure the lecture was just as wonderful that day as ever, but he had apparently been to the men’s room earlier in the day, and a piece of his white shirt tail was still sticking out of his fly.
That one small thing drew everyone’s attention. I have no idea what he lectured on that day. You see...when you give any kind of presentation, EVERYTHING communicates. That shirt tail, a bit of spinach stuck in your teeth, the way you pronounce certain words...everything communicates.
This is why it pays huge dividends to work with a director or a coach whenever you have an important presentation. They’ll see things you would miss. They’ll help you make better choices with every detail of your presentation. And they’ll help you develop better habits around your presentations, so you never walk into class with your shirt tail sticking out of your fly!
Play is the mindset for creative innovation. If you’re afraid to try new things in your life or in your business, learn to shift your mindset. Go ahead...BE childish! Try things you expect to fail. See what happens! When you feel stuck--with no idea of what to do or where to turn next--find a way to play! Can’t get there on your own, because it makes you feel silly or childish? Find a partner (kids are great for this) and create a game where you play with the elements of the problem. Better yet, get a friend or colleague to create that game. They won’t have your hangups or preconceptions about your problem. Then, play the game. See what happens!
This works for creating new performance pieces and for solving problems in business, with relationships...in fact, in many situations. So next time somethings getting on your nerves...go play!
Those of us who work in live entertainment recently had our worlds turned upside down--even more so than most of the rest of the population. So I’ve been rethinking the basics of mission, vision and goals for my own business...and how to help you do the same with yours. Learn more here:

Well, life is certainly throwing us all curves right now. Many of us are just reacting blindly, doing whatever they see others doing to try and improve the situation. But others--others will step back, reconsider the core of what drives them and their businesses--and create a new plan. They’ll stand a much better chance of a rapid recovery, of actually taking advantage of the current crisis not just to recover, but to expand the scope of their businesses.
So...what’s your plan?
