‘My Hijab Has Nothing To Do With Oppression. It’s A Feminist Statement’
Not all Muslim women cover their bodies. Not all Muslim women who do are forced to do so. Like freelance writer Hanna Yusuf, who chooses to wear a hijab in a daily act of feminism. In a new video for The Guardian, Yusuf challenges stereotypes by setting out to reclaim the choice to wear a hijab as “a feminist statement.”
For more on on how the hijab helps women reclaim their bodies watch the full video here.
“To try and attain the unattainable”*
“BUT THE LIBERATION LIES IN THE CHOICE”. <—- money.
She has JUST as much of a right to cover up, as you do not to. So unless you’re going to support your fellow woman’s choice in the name of feminism or you can go sit next to the other hypocrites of the world.
A subject I know very little about, so I am going to let those who live the reality teach me about what it means to them. This video is worth watching for anyone who’s ever questioned why a woman would choose to wear a hijab. Think about how she and other women must feel to be constantly judged on their faith or told they need to be freed from their oppression…of their own choices? Trying to impose your brand of feminism on everyone is really missing the point.
