Current Obsession with the Clinton Affair
Lately, I’ve been watching videos about Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky, mostly because I think it brings up something important about strong women. You may not think similarly, but imagine being Monica. You’re surrounded by press, people calling you a slut, people body shaming you, and SNL making a running joke about you. It’s a time that you really have think about what you have done and how you can get through it. Monica talks about how she felt responsible about the whole situation. She knew that Bill was married (obviously). She continued to pursue a relationship that she knew wasn’t meant to be and eventually fell in love with a man that she couldn’t have. As she was going through this Bill was dealing with impeachment and a lawsuit from a previous case. (I forgot her first name but her last name was Jones) This woman, Jones, claimed that Bill had asked her to “kiss his penis.” Gross. Bill did what he had to do and dealt with everything as professionally as possible. We all know he’s shitty. You can tell by looking at him that he has no respect for women. He eventually apologized to everyone that had to suffer in the process, but it was a generic and indirect apology. It was enough to get the press off his back. He never truly apologized to Monica either, but Monica did apologize to Hillary and Chelsea. Which is difficult to do. I have respect for Monica. This whole situation was a mess and she wasn’t prepared for it, but did uplift herself and became the better person.Â
Maybe I’ll talk about Hillary Rodham Clinton. I have mad respect for her. Even if you don’t like her you have to admit she took a couple gut punches throughout the years and almost broke the glass ceiling for women. There needs to be some sort of appreciation for her. Plus, she is a great example of feminism. Good or bad. A big leap for womanhood.
