#i want to point out that arthur was insecure and had several doubts about him being a good king/person#and whenever merlin said he had faith in him or complimented him#he didn’t agree because he didn’t see the same person merlin saw in himself#he still accepted his words tho because it was /merlin/ and he knew he meant them#but in 5x13 merlin didn’t talk about arthur /the king/ he talked about the man about the first time they met and how he was born for arthur#how merlin’s magic was for him and he wouldn’t change a thing#arthur had several doubts about him being a good man/king and leader#he didn’t feel he deserved the faith merlin had in him#but he knew how much he meant to merlin even before the magic reveal#(if anything the magic reveal was the last piece of a puzzle)#so when merlin said ‘there will never be another like you arthur’ arthur not only knew it was 1000% true#but he could see himself as someone who deserved that devotion and love#because it was mutual… knowing merlin was even more powerful than him#knowing merlin protected him and didn’t care for his crown or had any other intentions but his happiness#his eyes are full of warmth and joy jfc#maybe the reason why he didn’t look down and stared directly at merlin’s eyes was because he felt the same too#there will never be another like merlin for arthur either
