This one idea has been stuck in my head and I feel like it might actually be a possible direction for the story:

So the Silverwood tree needs Qifrey to feel peace and happiness to grow, right? And the story very much links it to Olruggio, of course.

So what if at some point something happens, and Qifrey thinks Olruggio is dead (but he's not actually dead) and the grief is so big it kills the parasite? The shock and hurt are just so much, the parasite is destroyed. And then they live happily ever after? 🙈

Summary:

'“He is actually very sweet,” He blurts without thinking, the buzz from the beer making him more open and eager to talk. Oikawa chokes a little on his drink, and Shouyou laughs. He doesn’t blame him, ‘sweet’ is probably not the first adjective most people would use to describe Kageyama.

“It’s true!” he says. “He can be awkward, and blunt, and insensitive-”

“That’s more like it,” Oikawa says, raising his glass at Shouyou's words with a smirk, but Shouyou shakes his head.

“But he also… cares, a lot. Probably more than he should, sometimes,” he says, and he feels like a dam inside him has broken, filling his heart and mind and body with gooey, sticky-sweet feelings.'
