people don't change for their children enough

if someone's child is queer, and the parent says "i can't accept this," it's less about their beliefs but more about how much they love that child.

my parent is the same way because they were raised in a conservative environment that didn't accept queer individuals. if i came out to them, they would not be accepting at all and potentially stop talking to me.

however, their mother, or my grandma grew up in an even more conservative environment--not only would they shun queer people, but they would harm them. yet if she knew, she would embrace me, tell me it was okay to be myself, and that she loves me.

although they both love me a lot, with love comes change.

if you have a child, you should at least try to break the cycle you were raised in instead of blaming your lack of acceptance on the way you were raised. it's not easy, but it won't be easy for your child if you never make an attempt.

and honestly, if you're not willing to accept your child if they're queer, why even have one? a guardian with true love to their child will love and accept them for their identity.

the other day i was walking past some teenage boys (ugh i know) and they were saying some pretty homophobic stuff and treating the word "gay" as an insult. one of the guys responds by saying "bro you can't say that, it's pride month!"

and although they were 'joking' and just being dumb, if the only reason you tolerate gay people is because its june, you're homophobic. true respect comes unconditionally, no matter if someone is queer or trans.

pride month is to celebrate the stonewall movement and to provide a platform for historic and present queer voices which have lacked/lack a platform. it also advocates for inclusivity and justice through rallies, posts, branding, and more.

pride month is not a month designed for you to not be homophobic whenever you see something gay. if you are that way, then you're the reason we need pride month in the first place.
