Myrtle Beach Day 1
I'm writing this on my phone because my laptop wasn't charged and its late anyway. 12:24am. Sue just fell asleep. I'm outside our room on the 10th story of a Myrtle Beach family resort. I'm accompanied by the moon. Bathing in the moonlight. Our room has an ocean view. It's a 20 foot long rectangular cube with cement walls - very quiet. The balcony is totally walled in - ceiling floor wall to wall are cement. Just me and the moonlight. HOLY SHIT someone just lit a giant miyherfucjing firework. Gdamn! That was 50 yards away. Anyway. WILLIKERS it happened again. Seeing the moonlight bounce off the oceanic horizon. There's not a lot more beautiful than that. It's black water. And it's white moonlight. I'm drinking Acacia Pinot noir out of the glass that comes with the room - full kitchen. We just bought possibly too many groceries at the Market Village Piggly Wiggly. I want to talk about what happened at the pool earlier today, before I forget. Sue got OH JEEZUS ANOTHER FIREWORK. That one was red on the inside and green on the outside. It was an oval. Anyway Sue got accosted by an extremely friendly 49 year old man willing to give Sue all the skinny on the local news. I wandered away with our daughter in tow (she was floating on her baby inflatable tube), even as the 49 year old's 19 year old son comes to assist his father in this subjective report on the comings and goings of. Hold up. One more firework. This one was orange in the center and red on the outside. How is this guy getting away with this? I admire his cajones. His refusal to yield OH gdam another one! Is that a friend? An accomplice? They just lit another one off in quick succession and I tried to get a Snapchat but no. Oh yeah. So Sue was chatting up these gents - if I had to guess I'd say they were "inland folk" - and I made my escape with Lilah Moon. We totally abandoned Sue. So funny now that I look back on it. Perfectly harmless fellas, just a very awkward situation that I left Sue to sort out for herself. So Lilah was in my arms, floating on her floaty tube, and we go under this bridge that's shooting water out of 6 holes. Wow the guy just lit off a grand finale of fireworks. It was very cool. Everyone cheered. It's 12:54 am. So I'm pulling Lilah under these weak jets of water and she is squealing with laughter because it's slightly cold and the water is going over her head and she doesn't know how to handle water over her nose and eyes completely- also she's floating high in a pool very fun in a dangerous way because she can't swim! She relishes life on the edge. And I start laughing. Not at her but after we both yell out that there's an echo under the bridge. Lilah is calm. Almost confused as to how there is such a fun place that she hasn't seen until now. But I haven't seen this place either until now and I'm laughing. Laughing at the air! Not at a joke but at life being good to us. I look over at Sue, who is getting really good Intel. The two guy have basically "friend" surrounded her. Wow like alligators. They reminded me of chatty alligators. Remember breakfast with Aunt Karen and Aunt Coral. Remember Lilah being impressed by the pink window. Remember the hot elevator that has no circulation fan or climate control. Good night. It is 1:01 am.
