Freshman Firsts // Zandy
Zach was rarely ever late. He didn’t mind being a few minutes late to a friend’s house - they would certainly understand if he had a reason - but being late to class, especially biology and on the first day after syllabus week, was unacceptable. Unfortunately, it became his nightmare as he learned he had set his alarm for 8PM rather than 8AM, and was only awoken by his roommate leaving for a class at the same hour. He must have looked like a fool as he ran to class, but when it came to getting to class, his appearance was the last thing on his mind. If anything was important to Zach, it was standing out to the professor as early as possible - he wanted to be a biologist and certainly wanted to be on good terms with the professor, but how could he be if he was going to show up late on the first day they were learning?
Out of breath as he reached the doors, Zach attempted to make it seem as if he weren’t panting as he walked into the room. To his surprise, few heads turned to see who had entered the room - he had yet to realize how little people cared in college, the professors included. He was ten minutes late, and there wasn’t much of an opportunity to be picky about where one sat. He chose a seat on the aisle where he walked in, but he refused to sit at the back, and hadn’t realized until he had sat down closer to the front that he was sitting next to one of the most beautiful women he had ever seen. God, he must have seemed like an idiot, showing up late and practically out of breath, and given his self-esteem from high school (or lack thereof), he was completely embarrassed to be sitting next to someone so beautiful. Still, he recognized her, not only from this class, but also from the orientation class they were forced to sit through every week. Normally, Zach wouldn’t know how to talk to someone of her beauty, in fear that she would laugh at someone like him, but desperate times called for desperate (and ballsy) measures. “Hey,” he whispered, “did I miss anything important?”
