I’m taking a brief step back from most threads etc to work on streamlining my blorbs’ bio pages, as well as their delicious lore. Not for long, maybe a week or two (possibly a bit longer).

The cliff overlooking the shore had become theirs without either of them meaning it to. For the last few clear nights, Will had insisted on dragging an old blanket up the slope, and Circe had followed. She had put great effort into pretending that she found the ritual ridiculous, but tonight the sky was deep violet, scattered with stars that reflected in the water below like spilled silver pieces. It was difficult to decline an invitation to admire them.

The grass was cool beneath them as Circe and Will lay side by side staring upwards as the gentle sea breeze whispered around them. Will had pointed lazily toward a crooked constellation, insisting that it had looked like a wolf in the thrill of pursuit.

“It looks nothing like a wolf,” Circe had said.

“You just have no imagination.”

She turned to argue, and in that exact moment Will turned toward her too.

Their lips had brushed accidentally, and Will’s wings twitched sharply behind him as his eyes widened.

“I… uh…” he stammered, adjusting himself and having the decency to look just scandalised enough to satisfy Circe. “I didn’t mean—”

Circe cut him off by grabbing the front of his jacket and kissing him again, this time with a little more intent and far more graceful than their accidental collision. When she pulled back, Will looked quietly stunned.

“Have I ever told you that sometimes you talk too much?” she murmured softly.

Zaire’s nose wrinkles before he even looks up from where he’s half-sprawled in the armchair opposite, boot balanced on the coffee table like he pays rent here too. “Hello to you, too,” he mutters, waving a lazy hand through the smoke cloud.

His gaze drifts toward the trembling leaves by the window, then back to him, cigarette glowing between his fingers like a dare.

“Are you trying to preserve the furniture or kill it?”

"the furniture loves me. if it dies, it dies happy," he says, taking a couple lazy steps towards the window, and giving emmanuel the curtesy of not flicking the cigarette directly onto the floor but rather into a crassula flowerpot.

he stands by the window a little while longer, looking out. then his long pale fingers reach to crack it open, not to smoke out of, but to look further down. "i always hated this one. em's lived in some uninhabitable places but this one... ugh. there's a dead fish on the bottom of the lightwell. it's gross."

“The furniture’s filed for a restraining order against you,” Zaire replied dryly, his eyes following the cigarette’s arc into the flowerpot. “That plant definitely just lost its will to live.”

He readjusted himself in the the chair after a second, more out of restless energy than actual concern for the plant’s well being.

At the mention of the fish, Zaire wrinkled his nose.

“Are you sure that you didn’t put it there as a housewarming gift? You know most people would just bring another houseplant or a bottle of something.”
