“Hmm?” Never really taking note of his own skin color. It was just a meat suit after all. Keeping it intact without doing too much damage to it was enough of a chore. “Reggie? Is that you?” Figuring the guy must be speaking in the third person. Because it was no way he was talking about the ferret…right? Humans were so weird

“What?” Zephyr looked at the other and chuckled. “No, Reggie is my ferret. Or technically Reginald when we’re being formal. My name is Zephyr.”

He glanced up.

Ah, right. The fairy had a family. Sort of. He read that she was survived by some kind of ferret and a distant cousin. He quickly surmised that the man before him fit one or both of the descriptors. Time would tell.

“That’s fine.” And, in a shocking display of empathy, he continued. “Sorry for your loss. You must be…” Eyes flickered down to his tablet. “Zephyr.” A repressed sigh,

“I’m Emmanuel. The case is in capable hands.”

Zephyr nodded when the other mentioned his name. “Uh yeah, I’m Zephyr.” 

Looking up at the other with his striking blue eyes, Zephyr shrugged his shoulders. “Um, what are you going to do? Find out who did this? Because they’re still out there. What if they come after me next then what happens? Or Reginald?” He questioned, a whole new fear starting to creep in on his mind.

“If you say so. A little too sunny for my tastes.” A groan under his tongue as he was much more a fan the rainy days. You know, the days when hellfire would rain from the heavens and his master took over. But he had a feeling the ferret boy wouldn’t enjoy the same climate change.

“Oh uh, yeah that would make sense I guess. You’re pretty pale. Got to put the sunscreen on on days like today and all that.” He offered with a small shrug. “Reggie has to wear long sleeves if we’re outside of a while so he doesn’t get too burnt.”

Zephyr’s eager nature helped Bennett’s wild sense of desire elevate to a level of absolute lust. The elevator closed and Bennett pressed the button to the eleventh floor, waiting patiently as he looked over Zephyr for the hundrenth time. As the door opened, he walked over to his door, pushed it open and pulled Zephyr inside to only shut the door and pin the fae against the wall, assaulting the man with fingers playing with the bottom of Zephyr’s shirt pulling it over his head and then getting himself shirtless as well before planting a kiss on the other’s lips. 

Perhaps this was exactly what Zephyr needed. It felt like it was. He wasn’t thinking about anything but what was happening right then. He was shirtless and making out with this super hot guy. His fingers felt down the man’s chest, enjoying how amazing those abs were. “Fuck.” He groaned softly. “You’re really hot.”

The newspaper on the breakfast nook’s table had caught his eye, seeing the name of the person who was killed. It shocked him, even shaken him which had the Angel walking over to comfort him. Robin didn’t know what to think but he felt a pull to the name, his gaze roaming over the article which had him frightened. Was it wolves? Were they near him enough to do such a thing that could’ve easily been his fate? He continued to read it, a heavily trembling sigh leaving his lips as he saw it could’ve been ‘demonic’. His gaze moved to the Angel, placing a hand on his cheek in thanks before placing the paper down. There was one person he knew he had to go see…and that was someone who he watched grow up when they came to visit.

Quickly making his way out of the apartment with a basket of sweets, he nearly ran to Zephyr’s home before knocking on his door lightly. He didn’t say anything, but he was sure the other would answer since Robin said he’d always drop by whenever he felt like it. He just hoped he was home at the moment. It was easier for Robin to show up like this, since he didn’t really know how to work his phone besides answering calls. Did he even have Zephyr’s? He couldn’t remember. All he knew was to press the Angel’s number and he’d be there. So, waiting at his door, he drummed his fingers lightly against the basket’s handle in order to keep his worry to a minimum.

Zephyr did not look good. He was not handling the responsibility of handling someone’s passing well. He didn’t like it at all. Eeva would be way better at this. She was better at being in charge and bossing people around and handling things. He was in his bed just staring at the ceiling after packing and shipping off most of Eeva’s stuff except for a few things he kept for himself. The rest went to his mom so that she could sort through it. 

He moved when he heard a sound at the door and opened it. Offering a small tired smile when he saw the familiar face. “Robin. So nice of you to stop by.” His apartment looked like a complete wreck as he motioned the other in. “Sorry I haven’t uh cleaned up in a little bit. Lot on my plate.” His eyes took in the basket. “Whoa, are those for me?”

Nox looked to the furry thing and thought about it for a sec. “Nah. Too small. They’d probably just hunt it down and bat it around a bit between them till it stopped moving.” Both dogs looking to the ferret as if they found a new play thing. Nox whistled and the dogs followed the silent command, turning their attention away from the pet while he pushed the button for his floor.

Zephyr breathed a sigh of relief when the man said nah, but it was immediately replaced with fear at the next comment. Of course he wouldn’t let the dogs get Reginald, he’d rather die, but that imagery was just disgusting. So he was happy when the man whistled at the dogs. Zephyr had absolutely no idea what do to at this point so he just stared ahead. “Nice weather today.”

There was nothing like perception. Here, the man was suffering and Dani was only able to see the surface tension. He’d dwell a little longer before taking the sweet, vibrant pressed cream from the counter fridge and fixed the cup as if he were to drink it. Once he stirred it, he let the stirrer swirl around the paper cup and placed a disposable lid on top. The entire thing was recyclable. Thankfully, the scent of cream was masked by paper and he was able to ignore it. 

For the moment, anyway.

“Good.” The coffee was put on a square napkin that was some false, dull metallic gold color. “No worries.” He began to resume typing. “Would you like a text reminder for your boxes?” 

Zephyr shook his head. “Oh no, uh you’ve done enough thank you.” He knew he shouldn’t start drinking the coffee there. He would take it back to the room and drink it while he waited, when he could walk again he’d get the boxes. Z nodded at the man and walked away.

He was a forensic pathologist. Why they forced him into interrogating living people was a mystery. He preferred them limp and unmoving. Emmanuel brought a hand to his temple, massaging himself until the next ‘witness’ in line paraded before him. The imbecile was about five paragraphs deep when he held up a palm, free hand white-knuckling his tablet until the other’s verbal diarrhea came to a stop.

“That’s enough,” The coroner interrupted, lips pressed tightly into a frown. “You are describing an episode of Supernatural. A bad one.”

Asshole didn’t even have the good sense to skip season seven. He watched a spider crawl along the drywall until the moron left, tail practically glued to his asshole in a display of permanent shame. Emmanuel motioned for the next witness with a bored beckon of his fingertips. 

Vampires never had anything better to do. Fuckers couldn’t die faster. 

Barely looking up from his iPad,

“Name, approximate date of birth, don’t care if you don’t remember, just guess—relationship to the victim? Any unusual eye witness accounts?” A pause as the other gathered their thoughts.

They were burning daylight. 

“Any time today.”

Zephyr looked at the man and opened his mouth and then closed it. “I don’t think I’m ready to do this.” He offered. Sure, days had passed but he didn’t exactly want to talk about the events that had passed. He wasn’t sure when that would happen if it ever would. “I’m sorry, can I do this another time?”

Nox strolled through the doors of the Celestial Towers still amused by the irony of the name. Kane and Able were close at his side following without any need for a leash. With such obedient pets one did not require strangling them with rope unless to discipline. And after the meal their master had just served the precious beasts were as willing to follow at his side as ever before.

The trio stepped to the elevator and hit the floor for the residence. Needing to drop the pets off to his room before heading to his shift at the 7th Circle. With his head tilted back further than needed he watched the number descend, not so much noticing the figure that stepped up beside him. His eyes shifted toward the creature in unison with his dogs heads, all three set of eyes staring.

“Don’t mind them. They’ve just fed so they’re completely harmless at the moment.” The Doberman to his left licking something red from his chops. Nox smiled and focused by on the elevator while his pets kept their focus on the figure.

Zephyr was standing in the elevator with Reginald on his shoulder when a man and two somewhat terrifying dogs walked in. Reginald immediately climbed up higher on Zephyr’s head. Z shook his head. “Um, I’m not the one freaking out. I think it’s more this guy.” He pointed to his own pet. “They don’t eat ferrets do they?”

“Sure. Coffee it is.” Dani smiled softly as he moved back from the desk and made sure every detail from the comfortable yet casual attire was singularly one complaint he wouldn’t receive. He didn’t need that administrative discipline but it would’ve been nice to wear fitted jeans and a boot. Maybe he’d try it tomorrow. But one gander at the guy and he couldn’t help but feel a little tug at the emotions. He also knew that most people in this tower didn’t like conventional nor unconventional consoling. So, he just gave him a gentle nod before the coffee was poured. “Creams? Sugars? Honey?” He’d ask looking over at him. “Is there anything else I could get you?” 

Zephyr gave a small appreciative smile as he watched the man pour his drink. His thoughts were very one track right now. Just needed to survive for a little bit and keep moving forward and things would get easier. “Um, cream, a lot of cream would be nice.” He knew it would be intoxicating but maybe that would help right then. “I uh, no this is good. Thank you, you’ve been very helpful.”

“You like that, Z?” He kept it going, tongue casually pressing itself against the other’s ear if only for a few fleeting moments. “You wanna go up to my place? I can help distract you the best way possible, even got ice cream for afterwards.” His hand rested at the small of Zephyr’s back, fingertips pulling against the fae’s open loop wanting to devour the other right where the man stood.

Zephyr was basically speechless at this point. All he could do was nod. Man this guy was offering himself and ice cream? Z was 100% down for this very distracting man. “Um yeah, yeah that sounds really good we should uh go now.” He knew he wouldn’t be able to move if he stayed this close to the other so he was basically pulling him towards the elevator.

“Depends… what kind of distraction are you looking for?” He looked over at Zephyr, licking his lips casually before walking closer to the man and pulling him in, letting his fingertips trace against the others collarbone casually whispering in his ear. “Something a little like this?” He asked, his Fae-cursed self feeling the pull of the boy and forgetting that Angels were often repulsed by the unnatural supers.

“Um, anything that distracts me I guess. Probably not drugs or anything. Cream would be nice.” He offered with a small shrug before his heart stopped for a moment when the man moved close and whispered in his ear. The fae nodded at the question. “Yes, uh, yes that works.”

“Lighting is simply my domain.” He didn’t want to answer specifically what his job was, but given his wide stature, it was quite evident he was a guardian of sorts. “Eeva?” He asked, looking at the other man already knowing this wasn’t going to be a good conversation. “Do you wanna talk about it?”

“So that’s totally a yes.” Zephyr came to his own conclusions because that automatically made the already hot man even hotter. Jack nodded at the name before shaking his head. “No, I’d like a distraction actually. If you think that’s possible.”

“Not quite a fae, but I can do a few things.” He brought his fingers together to create a ball of absolute light that he casually flung over to Zephyr. “Mostly blessings and such, my given name is Baraqiel, angel of lightning.” Shrugging, normally he wouldn’t have shared but he didn’t feel strengthened by the younger man. “Just be careful, you’re never sure what kind of people you’re gonna meet in the tower.”

Zephyr’s eyes went huge at the trick and he actually smiled. “That’s pretty awesome.  Are you the angel that’s in charge of striking the bad people?” Z nodded at the warning, his small frown returning. “Yeah, obviously Eeva met someone bad.”

“Why did she have to die?” Camilla asked no one in particular. “She was my only friend here. The first real friend I made. We were supposed to get a sparkly chandelier.” 

Zephyr wish he knew the answer to that question. He wish he knew the answer to a lot of questions. “I’m sure she would love that sparkly chandelier.” He murmured quietly.

“Sure, sure.” Dani was swift to speak but he took one gaze over the male’s presentation and he questioned the nature of this situation. Of course, he had all the pieces and he could’ve asked the curious questions but he’d never pry. He wasn’t that inquiring. He just hoped everything was fine. “I know the Daycare receives shipments in about an hour. I’d check up there.” He’d interject. “Is everything alright? Would you like a cup of tea? I can get you a cup from the back?” 

Zephyr nodded at the information given to him. He now had an hour to kill. He could finish organizing the stuff going into the boxes but he didn’t want to go back into that room until he had to. At the kind offer, he shook his head. “Um, no thank you. I, uh, I think I’ll get some coffee. Coffee is probably the right move for me.”

“Fly, huh?” He repeated with intrigue filling his voice. “Also, see or not see things? Interesting…” He took it in, squinting for a moment. Bennett looked down a little, tempted to showcase his wings but he was still very much incognito. “I have a few other cool things I can do too.” He lifted his two fingers and slightly tugged against Zephyr to pull him slightly closer. “There’s a lot you learn over the years when you practice your powers.”

Zephyr nodded. “Yeah, it comes in handy with my pet ferret that’s apparently illegal in California so I can keep people from seeing him and have them think they’re seeing something else.” Z looked up at the man. “Oh really? What can you do?” Zephyr asked as he physically moved closer and also leaned in closer. “You’re not a fae too.”
