En stayed in a defensive half crouch, touching the pattern with her elbow and her heel like a child nudging a spinning top. “Wait,” Tamol said in the roaring heat. En felt her kick her ankle. “En. En, please! This is all a misunderstanding!” En hesitated. Tamol was not her commander and couldn’t give her orders, but the spinning flame around them faltered. “You want me to stop?” “It’s just Pirelle and Clai!” Tamol said. “We came here to find them! En, I know you don’t have to do what I say, and I know you could kill everyone if you wanted, but I am begging you to stop.”
Incredibly delighted at this prerelease art! Could not have captured lesbian-winter-soldier vibe better! Realised I should probably add a plot summary but there is not room here so if you haven't seen it, here is the plot summary.
Bonus extract for under the cut (from approx two minutes later):
“Just a mix-up, no harm done— ” “She attacked me,” Clai said, slowly lowering his hands. “I was making soup.” “— no harm done except a few bruises on Clai—” “It’s all over the wall now.” “And a tragic soup casualty, fine,” Tamol allowed. “You did spring a noise trap on her and then lock her up, which quite understandably doesn’t seem friendly. I told you we were both escaping from someone trying to kill us. I’m sure En didn’t mean to attack anyone— ” “I did,” En said. “You’re not helping. Listen, Clai,” Tamol said, for some reason appealing to the person En had knocked prone and given a black eye. “She’s a war-tank. If she wanted you dead, you’d be dead.” There was a silence.
