Dear Journal, (Zurich Airport – 8/9am)
It is 334am in NYC but about 830am in Zurich, where I am now. Sydney and I are sitting in Zurich airport because our flight isn’t until 12, which is like a 4hour wait. Im pretty pissed about that, I wish we didn’t have to lay over for so long. This kind of sucks but whatever. We’re on the other side of the planet, where the white people are a little nicer, and they fantasize about black girls. Its pretty cool, as weird as that sounds but I feel like a celebrity in Europe, and it feels so good.
I am about to be in Cannes and this feeling is still so surreal. I can’t believe this moment is here, the moment of truth, the moment we have all been waiting for. WE as in me. I thought German’s would be assholes but they are pretty nice so far. Sydney and I were lost in the airport for about 30 min, we are pretty familiar with the Zurich airport by now. We were in search of “shopping area’s and restaurants” whatever that means. We asked a few guys and they all seemed to be pointing us in the same direction, we did the same thing about 3 times, so we just decided to sit in the “internet” section of the airport which requires you to pay 4.00Chf in order to use it. Bullshit.
So, there is no internet available, just my computer and Microsoft word. But what better way to occupy your time than to write your heart away? I started on this script. Its about gentrification, basically my neighborhood in Brooklyn. Fort Greene, the most gentrified of them all. At the beginning of it all, I was awed by the cool white hipster art people, and the white washed black girls with great weaves and corky smiles who drink iced coffees and wear leggings with their running shoes, and the asians with the flawless style and chic imagery, and the canvas bags. The fucking canvas bags.
Now. I am totally annoyed and pissed at the fact that Brooklyn is no longer Brooklyn. It is “Brooklyn” in a boojee sort of way. Buy anyway, my next film is going to encompass these feelings of mine. I feel it is my duty as a young filmmaker who grew up in fort greene and who is black to project this. Because, its not all cotton candy, theres blood and tears beneath it all. Pain and suffering and racism and condescending tones, I want to capture it all. So far, the title is “mixed” but that sounds too obvious, to blunt. I want it to catch people off guard, especially the white people. I may entitle it something like “Fro-yo heaven” or some shit like that..
