hey. niki who comes home to an empty house post deployment but it’s just because you went out to get groceries and he didn’t mention when they’d be returning so niki just. crashes on the couch in your shared living room like a log and is out like a light as soon as their head hits the cushioned armrest.

returning home humming happily groceries in hand and nearly tripping over their hastily untied boots, still tucked away in front of the door where he usually keeps them but not nearly as neat. taking a moment to arrange them neatly before quietly entering. you already know where he is, they have a tendency to snore like a train when deep asleep, unfortunately.

ah, there he is. they’re fast asleep on the couch, head resting on the armrest and hands neatly tucked into the bottom hem of their shirt— a quiet, comforting, habit. you can only sigh at the sight of him fast asleep with no blanket. you gently pad from room to room, until you find a soft fleece blanket stored in the back of a closet. you unfold it on the way back to them, gently covering them with it, pulling it up, up, up all the way to the bottom of niki’s neck.

smiling contently at the sight of your beloved so cozy, you turn around to put the groceries away—but you’re suddenly go from standing upright to laying on your side. a big burly arm is wrapped tightly around you, coiling themselves like snakes when you try to squirm away.

“niki? honey, i have to put the groceries away.” he doesn’t reply very much, opting instead to nuzzle their head into the back of your neck.

“stay. please. we missed you.” well, how could you say no to such a polite request, hm?
