OKAY SO.. what would Don n the goons do if their s/o is trying to heal from an addiction/trauma.. like, would they help their partner in some way? (ex: $H or SA)
Of course, massive content warning for mentions of addiction and generally triggering topics
Not the most educated in this area but I will try my best to imagine ^^
Also gonna do my best to be vague on what any addiction is, as well at what type of trauma someone could be recovering from
Don — He might not be the best to seek out help when healing from addictions, but it might be more tangible for him to help when it’s recovery from something that’s an addictive behavior rather than a substance (drugs or alcohol, mainly. You cannot tell me he thinks his alcoholism is an addiction since he still functions well.)
And, he won’t beat down someone for a relapse— he never would, he’ll do his best to provide alternatives, as well as the many things he could provide which technically don’t do harm to the person, but provides some outlet.
He’s also going to be awkward when it comes to healing from trauma, he’ll be there to listen if someone else needs to vent out their frustrations, as well as affirm any feelings they express about the event.
Claude — He’ll be a better option than Don to go to if you’re struggling, he doesn’t have much perspective other than knowing that it’s hard to kick the feeling, and that while a replacement works, it still can be hard when you want the real thing and not a replacement.
And when it comes to trauma, recovery as well as dealing with flashbacks and everything… He’ll do his best. He never wants to overstep and insist on things, unless he’s sure it’ll genuinely improve someone’s recovery. He tries to walk a fine line, not just not protecting the person, but also not infantalizing them.
Extra cw for talking about drug addiction
Ezio — Has the most perspective out of anybody when it comes to addiction, his life having been ruined by drugs previously, and while he still engages in usage every now and then, his life doesn’t depend on it. He can be there when those cravings are intense, after relapses, celebrate milestones of recovery… All of it.
And when it comes to trauma, he can do his best. Be there as someone to lean on, vent to, for a hug or for validation. Just about standard for how the others would help.
(Whenever I think about how similar they are, i remember that similar people tend to get along, so it’s not that crazy of an idea that they have similar ideals.)
Borys — Mostly just someone to talk to when it comes to addiction recovery. He can see that it ruins peoples lives, as well as it being hard to recover or completely rid those cravings.
He’s a lot more understanding when it comes to trauma, the times he was destitute thanks to his urge to get into fights. Though, he was left on his own to recover from the trauma, and if someone else is struggling, he’ll be happy to talk them through it, and relate it back to his own struggles of how he’s had to accept what happened, and move on, though does understand that it can be hard to move on from what’s happened.
Gunther — A little awkward when talking about addiction— a lot of his family members had their own vices, and none of them wanted to recover, so he’s got a savior complex (sort of) when it comes to being able to be there for someone, to help them recover from an addiction, since he’s always wanted to do that for the people around him.
And when it comes to healing from trauma, he also has some understanding when it comes to moving past things that have happened. Though Gunther is a lucky one, and has actually seem some therapy, and that’s not something seen a lot in the crime syndicate in general, even if this was before the syndicate. So, he’s got some actual, legitimate methods at his disposal.
