The launch of the Brain Initiative at Rockefeller University was an amazing mind opening (no pun intended) event. What is being pursued is the new frontier - mapping the brain, the central connectors. The approach is also revolutionary, the Brain Initiative brings together a team comprised of scientists, mathematicia, medical doctors and others, a rare interdisciplinary approach. The Brain Initiative takes its scientific direction from the Genome Project and its inspiration from the Apollo project which had culminated with man’s first steps on the moon- both path breaking historic moments. What was also awe inspiring was that on the way out of the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller hall was decorated with a wall of photos of all the Nobel Prizw winners associated with the University. Wow. When you read the motto you feel the gravity of this august space- “science for the benefit of mankind” - and indeed the University’s history has proven to be exactly for that purpose - priceless inspiration
One of my absolute favorite places Carnegie Hall - It was love at first sight. My first time was as a teenager attending a rehearsal. The hall and music were catalysts that changed the way to see the bigger world. The concert program for the evening was a reminder of the student years- Grieg and Bach violin concerto - pieces performed in high school. A musical reunion and reminder of distances traveled from high school, to college to career…Thank you Carnegie Hall for presenting new pathways !

Famed Annie Leibovitz know for photographing the beautiful and famous for such spreads as Vanity Fair and Vogue , this time has created a series of very personal images. Her exploration takes us through a snap shot journey from Virginia Woolf to Lincoln to Elvis Presley. She called these photos notes - bits of a story of a place or person. Pilgrimage, the title of this exhibit is a small but powerful exhibit. Takes you across the US and to other countries in a very intimate way. A great way also to appreciate her artistry, eye and broad intellectual curiosity. Something which may not be as apparent when flipping through her celebrity photos. This is poetry.
A night at Broadway - for theater lovers this was an all star cast with Nathan Lane, Stockard Channin, Matthew Broderick, F Murray Abrahamson and oh yes also for those who are Harry Potter fans Rupert Gint aka Ron Weasley making his Broadway debut! Live theater when good is really great!
Shanghai / New York: Future Histories — A Showcase of New Composers from China. This performance will take place at 8:30 pm at Asian Society.
Great theater moment with Hugh Jackman – in The River. A very intimate up close performance by a terrific cast. Very gripping drama with three actors. Hugh Jackman on stage is so much more than anything he does on film.Classic theater. Thank goodness for live performances!
A great evening celebrating the tenth anniversary of the Rockhouse Foundation of the Rockhouse Hotel owned by friends from our banking day. The foundation builds schools and has done enormous good works for the community in negril. Not your usual gala- reggae star and others including the Jamaican minister of education rocked the night away while raising record funds. Dancing for a good cause was a great way to spend the night!
Launch of the BSchool's Neighborhood Networking Series back in Nov was a .fun to meet alums and to hear Professor Iyengar, the inaugural ST Lee Professor of Business talk about her book The Art of Choosing- bits of which she has presented as a TED talk.
Holiday visit to University of Michigan, @A2 Michigan. Go Maize & Blue!
A most Inspiring event for refugees international - Ann Curry news correspondent gave one of the best acceptance speeches sharing with us incredible stories of what she has witnessed. A big surprise the level of commitment that Matt Dillon has for RI - He gave a very heartfelt introduction. An educational eye opening evening. Did you know there are 50million refugees in the world. Almost 10 million new refugees from the turmoil in Syria - one out of five living in Jordan are refugees – many of whome are children - Displacement on an enormous scale. The largest number of refugees since WWII. Very moving tribute and plea to aid this global crisis.
CIty Lights NYC @Christmastime… May this holiday season sparkle and shine Wishing all our friends joy, and all the best the holiday has to offer. May this incredible time of giving and spending time with family and friends bring you all joy that lasts throughout the year. Our very best to you! Carol & Ritu
Signs of the Christmas season are popping up. The Rockefeller center tree arrived, some shops have begun to decorate their windows and their sales team! People skating and lining up for tickets for the radio city hall Christmas spectacular - it's the season!
The UPenn China Forum last weekend was a huge success! Great to hear from Zoomdojo co-founder Ritu Banga and from Sotheby's CMO Alfredo Gangotena about the importance of art in the 21st century. The global art market is still strong today, especially because of new markets like China—which has grown even larger than the European market! Dominic Chiu of CNBC focused on China's economy, while panelist Hao Lu, a Harvard Business School alum, reminded us of the relationship between energy and the economy, and pointed out that energy and the environment can go hand-in-hand. Julie Wong, the first Asian woman to found a bank in the USA, emphasized how knowledge and ambition lead to a successful career—and after hearing the insightful questions from our student attendees and lively discussion after the panel ended, we can't wait to see how everyone's careers grow in the future!
For us a highlight of the Tsinghua visit was to host the group at our offce. An opportunity to inform what is Zoomdojo but more important to provide a chance to meet with several of our Zoomdojo young professionals. The cultural and info peer to peer exchange was valuable.
The uber modern Bloomberg offices was another wow moment for the Tsinghua Delegation. The open floor plan, coy pools, tropical fish tanks embedded into walls and columns are very distinct and unique elements that add nature to tech space. The food courts with snacks and food again open to employees was a great pit stop for the group.
