okay but I actually don’t want Anne to tell Gilbert in time. I want him to get on a train to Charlottetown when she shows up at the Blythe-Lacroix house. I want her to race to the train station to try and catch him before its too late.
I want Gilbert to take Winnie to dinner, but when the time is right he just… can’t. He thinks about what Mary said to him, to marry only for love. And that’s not the only reason he’s doing this is it? So he keeps quiet, they have a very lovely dinner, and before they part ways he breaks it off. It’s not easy, it’s not totally amicable, but then again, Winnie isn’t totally surprised either. She’s met Anne, even if Gilbert doesn’t say anything about her.
I want Gilbert to get to the train station only to see Anne get off the incoming train. I want her to be so convinced that she’s too late that she almost cries in her attempt to congratulate him, only for Gilbert to tell her he didn’t propose. For him to tell her why he couldn’t propose– she wasn’t the woman he loves.
I want their first kiss to be in the middle of a crowded Charlottetown train station, with woman whispering how scandalous it is. But they don’t care. They’re together, that’s all that matters.
