whats the lore between michael jackson and sergei???

oh how i jumped of joy at this. assuming anon is completely unfamiliar with critters for sale, allow me to infodump.

critters is a game, visual novel style, divided in five chapters and each of them occurs in different locations, w different characters and protagonists. sergei is the protagonist of Snake, the first one. you aren’t given much information about him and you’re thrown right away at the strange situation of him being awoken at 3am by a message on his phone sent by The Michael Jackson. sergei is hesitant to believe this at first because the events in Snake episode are set to happen in 2033 so, of course, MJ is long dead (rest in peace). you can choose if you want to send sergei back to bed and ignore the probably fake text message or indulge the mysterious request. each decision leads to different endings which is fun

to our and the protagonist’s surprise MJ is alive and well and actually did send that text message. if you send sergei to the club you can talk with him and he admits that he knows the protagonist from a future that sergei himself hasn’t experienced yet. so we can assume MJ is some type of magic time traveler. then some shit happens, another character which is relevant to the overall story of critters appears and kills MJ (spoiler). i don’t explain more bc honest to god the dialogue in cfs is weird and confusing if you don’t play the other chapters—and even then it ends up being Bullshit lowkey (cool bullshit) (to me)

Michael does explain to sergei that they become great friends in the future, and that they work together in some way . then he dies so we’re kind of left in the dark about how much of that is a future that really happens but whatever. they’re yaoi to me, but i wouldn’t say that’s the intended read of their beautiful, intimate friendship. if you’re interested to see their dialogues in detail this gameplay is great. MJ doesn’t appear in other chapters, sadly, but other real life musicians do

it is very funny to me how some MJ fans have followed me over the last year because i’ve drawn him once or twice; please guys do keep in mind that im a very casual fan of him and if i post art of him it will Always be of his ‘character’ in this game, not his real self. i love you all to death tho
