I'm just going to vent here for a minute because I think it's really rude of people to complain about a book on a fan page run by the actual authors, which is what everyone seems to be doing on Facebook, so I'm going to complain about it here instead. This latest Zodiac Academy book is my least favorite in the series so far, which is disappointing because we were all so excited for it.

Let me start by saying I didn't absolutely hate it, there are definitely things in the book that I did like. There were just more that I didn't like.

Did I like Miltons chapters from inside ZA? Yes....but I've read them before. His chapters were just a combination of Dumbledores army hiding from Umbridge and Neville staying behind while Snape was head master.

The riddle that Tory solved on the ferry? Read that before too.. in ACOTAR. And it feels especially weird to have scenes so similar to Harry Potter and ACOTAR when these authors have to know that most of their audience has read those books too.

Let's talk Seth and Caleb... I am doneee with them. They dragged this out too long at this point. The last book I got it, but to continue it throughout this entire book felt forced, they have both said this TO EACH OTHER that clearly show they have real feelings and then they're just written to suddenly be complete idiots to continue dragging this fight out. I will say however the scene where their moms come in? Pure gold. That one was definitely a win.

Everyone being worried about Tory diving too deep into dark magic... We have already read this with her in the shadows. Do we really need that storyline again? Can we also just take a minute to address the fact that eather is an ancient forgotten magic that is so old no one knows how to teach it to her, but a few weeks with a book and she's completely mastered it and is using it like it's her own personal fifth element?

The fallen star... another villain.. I don't hate this storyline, I just wish that it had happened earlier or that they had at least taken anyone out before he was introduced. I feel like no matter what they do in this next book it's going to feel rushed. You're telling me that they have had nine books to take out Lionel... Which they have STILL NOT DONE. But somehow in this very last book they are going to take out Lionel, Lavinia, creepy shadow child, and a star God?

And finally.... We just spent 1200 pages...twelve hundredddddd pages waiting for everyone to be reunited, and you're telling me that when we start the next book there will be fake Vegas and they're gonna have to figure it out and find the damn twins again? I truly have no desire to spend hundreds of pages waiting for another reunion. If A Darius does IMMEDIATELY notice that fake Tory does share his heart beat and Orion doesn't immediately know that's not his blue I might just throw the whole book away.

The secret to create healthy habits.

Motivation > discipline > consistency > habits. That's the process from start to finish, for changing your life around with healthy choices.

Motivation is only the launchpad to start with, after that you can't rely on it because it comes and goes on a whim! A lot of people make the mistake on relying on it all throughout, and then wonder why they can't stay on track while other people do.

What you need next is discipline: when you commit to something and stick to it even when it's hard, even when you don't feel like it, because that's how you fill the gaps inbetween to create a routine.

And you create a routine by staying consistent. Today, tomorrow, again and again.

When you stay consistent over months, over half a year, it becomes a habit, and when something becomes a habit, it's effortless to keep going because that is now your default setting. It becomes your new normal, the choice that comes easiest to make because you don't even have to make it or think it; you just lean back into it.

Going to the gym regularly becomes like having a meal; if you don't do it, you'll feel restless and off, genuinely craving the movement and the boost of endorphins. When you eat healthy regularly, you feel it right away if you get off track and indulge in too many treats: you'll feel it in your body, in your mental clarity, in your emotional wellbeing and it's so much easier getting back on track because healthy is your new default.

29. The Goddess Test by Aimee Carter

   Kate’s mom is dying of cancer. She’s been fighting it for years, and now it’s the end of the line for her. The two move from New York to the mom’s childhood home so she can die in peace. This town is completely unknown to Kate; it’s so different that it might as well be another world. The only arrangement her mom makes for Kate’s future is to enroll her in the local high school so she can at least have that done by the time Mom dies. Yes, Kate is eighteen by this time, but her mom has never made arrangements for someone to help Kate with things like planning the funeral. Eighteen may be legally an adult, but it’s still awfully young to take on something so big alone. And then to provide *everything* for the rest of her life alone, living in a strange town and having no support system, Kate is essentially set adrift. She doesn’t even have any job experience yet.

    At school, Kate meets some of the local teens. The one the author picks to become Kate’s best friend is Ava, a popular snob who jumps into a river knowing that Kate can’t swim - Kate’s terrified of getting in the water. When Ava lands, she hits her head on a rock and Kate *must* jump in to save her. Kate succeeds, but Ava is dead. Henry shows up and saves Ava on condition that Kate join him in the Underworld. So Kate becomes a new Persephone.

    Although the premice of retelling the Hades/Persephone myth had potential, the book quickly degrades into mere adolescent “romance” of the type where hormones take over and clear thinking need not apply.  Kate finally accepts that her mother is dying. Her entire reason for doing all this has evaporated, so she has no reason to stay. The fact that she falls for Henry (Hades) makes her seem more like someone with Stockholm syndrome than someone in love. After all, she doesn’t know what it’s like to be in love; her mother’s been fighting cancer since Kate was barely a teenager, Kate’s never dated, she has never had a father to give her any perspective and she’s essentially been held prisoner for months. Yes, she thinks she did this of her own free will, but she stayed in Eden only under duress; her friend Ava just died and Kate thinks that she can save her mom by agreeing to this arrangement. True falling in love is more to do with wanting to “spend the rest of our lives together” and much less to do with “I’ll stay with you if you let my mom live” or “my friend just died.”
