An anon requested that I do a tutorial, so here it is!

I’m a total noob, so I’m sorry if this is terrible. heh.

Things you’ll need:

Sims4Studio, you can download it here. You’ll need to register an account to download it, but it’s definitely worth it.

Photo editing software. I use Photoshop, but Paint.net or Gimp will also work. You’ll also need a dds plugin for Photoshop. I use this one.

Whatever hair you would like to recolor

And the palette you would like to use. I use @wildlyminiaturesandwich’s Natural and Unnatural palettes, here. I highly recommend using the Photoshop actions, which makes the whole process so much easier.

Step 1:

So first thing you’re going to do is open up S4S, enter your creator name, then close S4S. Open up your documents folder, open the Sims 4 Studio folder. Put whatever hair you want to recolor into the Mods folder.

Step 2:

Open S4S again, and click on CAS Standalone, and then the CAS button.

Choose “custom” under the content drop down menu to make it easier to find the hair. Choose your hair and click next. (If you use WMS’s colors, you’ll want to use EA’s white hair texture)

Now export the texture and save it.

Step 3:

Now open up the texture in your photo editor. 

Open the actions menu, choose which color you want, and then click the little play button at the bottom. 

Now just click save as and name your file. When you hit save, another menu will pop up. Make sure the dropdown is set to DXT5. Click save. 

After I save it, I just hit ctrl+z until it undoes the recolor, and repeat the same process for each swatch. (there is probably a better way to do this, but that’s just how I do it.)

Step 4:

Now you’re going to go back to S4S. Click the import button to bring your recolor into your package file.

WMS also included png’s of her palette for the swatches, which makes things easier. Just click the import button near the top and select the corresponding swatch and import it. Use the eyedropper tool (right click) to apply the it to the swatch.  

Now click new swatch, and repeat the process for each color.

When you’re done with that, click save.

Step 5:

Now take your package that you just saved and put it in your mods folder, and head in-game to test it.

You can choose to make a custom thumbnail at this point, but it’s not necessary. Just make an image in Photoshop that’s 148x104 pixels. When you’re finished editing it, just import it into the thumbnail slot in S4S. 

And that’s it! You’re done. :)

Again, I’m very new to this, so there’s a lot of things I don’t know.. I hope this was helpful!
