Absolutely CRYING that the Aztec God of homosexuality—Xochipilli—has a compound name meaning “Flower Child” or “Flower Boy”.
I AM DONE.
Xochipilli, seated. The Borgia Codex.
To clarify Xochi means Flower and Pilli is a way to refer to someone as Noble. Xochipilli means Noble Flower, for our people they were once a Tepechi or little boy. When they crossed realms they changed to an adult and their spirit was able to shapeshift to fit their needs, including sexually. My people, the Caxcan, refer to them as a Yehuat, or spirit that is able to walk with both the female and male flower in each hand. In older anthropological works, they loose the understanding of Queer Indigeneity and only used the word Homosexuality. Today we use terms such as gender queer or non-binary. Xochipilli is so much more than their gender; fertility, music, first ancestral relative, traveler of realms, and keeper of medical plant knowledge.

On this day, 27 January 1875, Mexican revolutionary and feminist Juana Belén Gutiérrez Chavez (later de Mendoza) was born to a mestizo father and a Caxcan Indigenous mother. Educating herself as a child, she began to write for the radical press, and she was jailed in 1897 for criticising mine workers’ conditions in Chihuahua state. She later became a teacher, translated numerous classic anarchist texts by the likes of Peter Kropotkin and Mikhail Bakunin into Spanish, and contributed prolifically to revolutionary publications, and more mainstream ones on working class issues. In 1907, she founded Las Hijas de Anáhuac, an anarchist-feminist group which agitated for strikes for better working conditions for women. Some political rivals accused her of being a lesbian for living with a woman, which she denied, while others accused her of being promiscuous for having male friends. She enthusiastically took part in the revolution which began in 1911, and was imprisoned for three years. Upon her release she set up a military unit in the army of Emiliano Zapata, who made her a colonel. She kept up her political activity advocating for rights for women, workers and Indigenous peoples until her death in 1942. https://www.facebook.com/workingclasshistory/photos/a.1819457841572691/1908389536012854/?type=3

Everyone drinks chocolate to celebrate the son’s birth, they bathe- luxuriate in the rich cacao but when daughter is born they simply drink atole de masa… Earthly and modest.

I am currently on a mission to find some of her original works and make them openly available. Isn't crazy how she is an absolute Chingona in the revolution and almost none of her work is acessable? Personally, I belive it is the Mexican INAH that's is purposefully erasing our people's exsisitance off the internet so that they can justify their shitty museum that stole our land and place of creation.
