I wish that book reviews were presented the same way as fanfiction reviews:
“AFHAKFHDKFHAKHFADSKFHKDFDKJHFKJAD” –The New York Times
“OMG I CANT EVEN WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT TO THEM” –The Wall Street Journal
“you asshole im crying now” –NPR
“AHH THAT WAS SO CUTE THANK YOU! I’ll publish that book I said I’d write for you like next week, I’m a little busy right now but I LOVE THIS” –Sarah Dessen

So You’ve Never Written a Query Letter Before: Here’s How
As one of Ooligan’s acquisitions managers, I read a lot of query letters. Like any other publishing house, we see lots of them, and because we accept unagented submissions, we see a lot of query letters that are written by authors who might not know what should be in a query letter. Sometimes this means … Read more »

My English Major Success Story
chucktingleofficial submitted:
I graduated with a B.A. in English with a concentration in writing and a specialty in queer theory on May 3, 2014. After 11 months working a few jobs that were okay but not great in unrelated fields, I got a job in April as a proofreader at a publishing company in Nashville. I make good money, I work with kind, creative people who care about me and appreciate my talent, and I’m doing something that I enjoy and am good at.
Don’t let anybody discourage you from getting an English degree (ESPECIALLY if you aren’t getting a teaching degree to go with it) by saying that you won’t find a job in your field. I let people convince me my degree was useless and it took me almost a year to find the right fit for me because I thought I wouldn’t be prepared to handle a “real job”. Your English degree IS useful, you CAN find your dream job, and it will be worth it! I’m so happy now! And I won’t lie–being able to tell the people who said I had a “useless degree” that I’ve found a great English career and am making more money than them is SWEET. 😊
I’m so glad you found something you love! Thank you for sharing your story :)
