Real Life Conic Sections

The first picture shows an example of a real life conic section circle. Circles are known as a shape that has no edges. Circles are formed when a plane is perfectly horizontal and intersects the cone. Also, this picture mainly consists of a magnet and myself. The magnet was bought on Garrucha, Spain during our world tour.

The second picture shows an example of real life conic section ellipse. Ellipse is a shape which looks like an egg. Ellipse is formed when a plane is slightly slanted and intersects a cone. The picture shows me holding a deodorizer. I found it in my room and its running out of wax.

The third picture shows an example of real life conic section hyperbola. Hyperbolas obviously looks like two parabolas. Hyperbolas are formed when a plane when a plane is in perfect vertical form and intersects two cones. The picture shows a picture of me holding a contact lens case. However, the contact lens was owned by my sister.

The fourth picture shows an example of real life conic section parabola. Parabolas are known to be just a curved line. Parabolas are formed when a plane is slanted and intersects just a single cone. The picture consists of an umbrella handle and me. I own that umbrella and use it when it is rainy.

Is a curve obtained as the intersection of the surface of a cone with a plane. The three types of conic section are the hyperbola, the parabola, and the ellipse.

CIRCLE

A Circle is a simple closed shape. It is the set of all points in a plane that are at a given distance from a given point, the centre; equivalently it is the curve traced out by a point that moves so that its distance from a given point is constant. The distance between any of the points and the centre is called the radius.

The eyepiece of the sunglasses I am wearing is an example of circle. It shows the point and different parts of a circle. Its circular-shaped of the sunglasses affects the way how it can attract people because it is more fashionable and a trend style of sunglasses. The object literally can be in different shape but I choose this kind because it fits me and I am comfortable to use it.

ELLIPSE

An Ellipse is a curve in a plane surrounding two focal points such that the sum of the distances to the two focal points is constant for every point on the curve.

The mirror is represented as the conic section ellipse. It has a long y-axis and in the vertical orientation. The ellipse-shaped of the mirror affects how a person standing in front of it to look tall and slim. Definitely there are different shapes of mirror, mostly they are circle and square but my auntie bought this kind because it is placed in our living room to be unique.

PARABOLA

A Parabola is a plane curve which is mirror-symmetrical and is approximately U-shaped. It fits any of several superficially different mathematical descriptions, which can all be proved to define exactly the same curves.

The cabinet holder illustrated the conic section, parabola. It shows how the curve created by it is facing in the left side. By its shape, it helps us to easily open and close cabinets, drawers, etc. It has different designs and some are circular, the trend one. But I prefer to use the curve-shaped because it has no hassle to open such compartments especially in hurry and emergency.

HYPERBOLA

Hyperbola is a type of smooth curve lying in a plane, defined by its geometric properties or by equations for which it is the solution set. A hyperbola has two pieces, called connected components or branches, that are mirror images of each other and resemble two infinite bows.

I choose the metal table design as an illustration for hyperbola because it shows two mirror curves that is facing on the left and right side. It affects the beauty, and creativity of the objects by itsdesign. All of us has different choices but I think the designer of this table wants something unique so he/she decided to make it like this. It is not all necessarily shaped like this because it can be made from different styles and we choose this kind because it is only from our grandparents.

A sign is usually used to say information or to warn people. A circle is usually the shape that is being used in a sign. The sm made a information that they are celebrating their 60 years through a signage. It is shaped as circle for it is the neccesary shape for it because of its small message.

The First Conic Section is a Circle. I Have chosen a bowl to represent the first conic sevtion which is a circle. The object that I jave used is a bowl because as you can see it is shaped like a circle. It is well rounded and clearly shape as a circle. I chose this kind of thing to represent my circle because it's easy to find and it is inside the house. There are different kinds of bowls like, there is an oval shaped bowl but clearly the one I chose is a circle for my first conic section. We use this kinds of bowls to put food in it and can help us store a lot of food. We all know that most of the bowls are round or a circle. I chose this bowl for it is easy to find, its obviously a circle and its inside the house.

》》ELLIPSE

The Second Conic Section is the Ellipse. In this conic section I chose a platter to represent the shape of the ellipse. It is curve in a plane surrounding two focal points and it is also looks like a oval shape. I am thinking that it was made just to look like that an oval shaped platter, I think that it is made like that for specific purposes in foods like putting desserts on top of the platter to let others see the grace of the food on top. Im sure that a lot of people have this in their houses, It is commonly used inside the house especially during occassions. I chose this because it is also easy to find, especially because it is inside the house and it really looks like an ellipse or particularly an oval shape

》》PARABOLA

The third conic section is the Parabola. I personally chose the tip of the cap to represent the conic section called the parabola. For me the tip of our hats are like a parabola because of its shape. A shape like an inverted "U" when flipped around, its like a symmetrical open plane curve formed by the intersection of a cone with a plane parallel to its side and in the object that I chose it is like a parabola in shape. It is formed like that to have a purpose in the cap, It's purpose is to either block the incoming sunlight in the day and block rainfalls during rainy weathers. It is a great design for a hat to have a shaped like this for we recieve benefits through this parabola shaped tip of the hat. It is built like this to help us when it is needed.

》》HYPERBOLA

Last but not the least of the conic sections is the Hyperbola. I've chosen the shape of the bottle of royal mismo. The curves of this bottle looks like a hyperbola, It is like a 2 hyperbolas faced back to back. For me it is considered a hyperbola because it is said that there is a symmetrical open curbe formed by the intersection of a circular cone with a plane at a smaller angle with its axis than the side of the cone in which it can be seen in the object that I have chosen to represent the Hyperbola. This bottle is for drinking like in the picture the bottle of royal mismo. It can also be a parabola when it is put in horizontal form. Because of its side it can be a parabola but I chose it to be a Hyperbola for its symmetrical open curve in both sides. Because in this form in which the hyperbola is placed it is where the holder holds the bottle and might be also a shaped for the bottle.

Conic Section

In this section the sign of this stand is formed as an ice cream and the ice cream has the significance when it comes to parabola because without it, it cannot be compared as a parabolic shape because a cone will only be left and it is not appropriate to its shape. It is shaped as parabolic one for it will be eaten easily compared to other object as it soft texture.

A lemon is shaped like a ellipse with an angle to show. It is formed an ellipse because of its curved like shape just like a lemon. It is shaped as an ellipse just like other fruits to hold its liquid. A lemon is naturally shaped like and ellipse from the start to the growth of it.

A guitar is formed by its sides and how its both side curved going outwards just like a hyperbola. Guitar is formed with the shape of the hyperbola for the people to hold a guitar easier and for them to reach the strings without stretching their arms. Imagine a guitar shaped like a circle the guitarist will have a hard time to play the guitar will sitting for the shape will block the way of their arms to reach the strings. Simply it is shaped like this for an easier grip.

Ellipse

The conic section that is shown in this picture is an ellipse. I can say that this picture shows an ellipse because the logo of the bus is in oval shape. The logo of the bus is in oval shape to make it different from other logos. Just like i said, it is in oval shape to show some uniqueness than the other logos. Yes it is necessary that the logo is in oval shape to know its different from the other car or bus.

Hyperbola

The conic section that is shown in this picture is a hyperbola. I can say that this picture shows a hyperbola because it has two opposite sided parabolas. It was seen in the different patterns depicted in these grills to show the beauty of an object. The purpose of the hyperbola in this image is to make the grills more attractive or beautiful. In this picture hyperbola is not that necessary because we have different thoughts on how we can make the object look more aesthetic.

Circle

The conic section that is shown in this picture is a circle. I can say that this picture shows a circle because we clearly see that the the mirror is in a circular shape. I think the circular shape mirror is used for a wider range of view. It is formed into a circular shape so that we can see it wider than the usual mirror. The circular shape is necessary in the mirror because we saw how the thing is very useful.

Parabola

The conic section that is shown in this picture is a parabola. I can say that the picture shows a parabola because it is in a ”u shape”. The uses of the parabola in this picture is to make it more presentable to the students or the visitors. Just like i said they used the parabola in their wall to make it more presentable. It is not that necessary because people have their own ideas on how we can make the thing beautiful or attractive.

Circle

What I have here is a clock. It represents the conic section circle. Why is the clock in a circular form? It is in a circular form because of the way it tells the time and how the numbers were placed. The hands of the clock can easily point which number it is pointing to. The circular form of the clock is also considered to take a small space in a certain wall. Clocks can also be in any other shape but it can be very hard to do that especially if it’s not in digital form. Imagine a rectangular clock, where would the hands be? It would be a long clock if its made. Clocks are usually shaped like that because of the way it tells time and the space that it consumes.

Ellipse

Now this is a remote to our hanging wall fan. Ellipse is being represented by the remote. The remote is in ellipse shape because it is usually found in the hanging wall fan, the remote fits perfectly in its place. It is also in ellipse shape because of how we handle it, easy handling of the remote unlike when it’s in a rectangular or square form the handling could be rusty because of the edges.

Parabola

This is a headband of my sister representing the parabola conic section. The headband is an accessory to the head wear, it is used to push back the hair infront of your face for you to look clean. It is in parabola form because of the heads shape, you can easily wear it in your head or hair. It can be in other shape just like the circle but that is now a different kind of headband.

Hyperbola

Representing the hyperbola conic section is our pitcher or it can also be a water jug. A pitcher is used to hold liquids for us to use it later then. The neck of the pitcher is in hyperbola form because of how we hold it. The hyperbola neck of the pitcher serves comfortable handling and easy pouring of any liquid. Changing the hyperbola like neck can be a major change. Making it straight or any other curves can make the person hold it hard and when wet it could easily slip because it doesn’t have any handle point or lock to the hands.

HYPERBOLA

Hyperbola were used here as a design to the gates. I think that its function is to add something unique to the object. If it was changed into some other shapes the pattern of the object may be not unique anymore.

PARABOLA

The parabola were used here as a support and a design to the building. If the parabola will be changed to other shapes the design of the building might look plain & boring.

ELLIPSE

Ellipse were used here as a design to the gates just like the hyperbola. I also think that its function is same as the hyperbola which is to add some flavor of uniqueness to the object. If its shape will be changed to other shapes the object might look plain.

CIRCLE

This is called the convex mirror. It is in a mirror in a form of a circle because it is used to see a wider view around us. This also tells us how far or near the object to us because of its wider view. It can't be formed into other shapes because its function won't be there anymore.

Mini Task 1: CONIC SELF- PIC

CIRCLE

The 1st picture I am with is a dartboard that represents the conic section circle. The board was designed by Brian Gamlin in 1896. Its shape is circle because the idea is that by placing large numbers next to small numbers, mistakes are heavily penalized. The type of conic section affects the use, for it increases the difficulty of the game. It’s layout is a circle and not formed into other shapes because it is cut into 20 equal arcs, with an inner and outer bulls eye at the center, and two rings, one halfway and one on the outer rim of the circle, representing treble and double scores respectively. It is necessarily shaped like that to reduce ‘lucky shots’ and reduce the element of chance.

ELLIPSE

The 2nd picture is the Toyota logo which represents the conic section ellipse. In 1990, Toyota debuted the three overlapping Ellipses logo on American vehicles. It is formed like that because the Toyota Ellipses symbolize the unification of the hearts of the customers and the heart of Toyota products. The background space represents Toyota's technological advancement and the boundless opportunities ahead. It affects the use of the object for this symmetry makes the logo recognizable both from the front and when seen through rear-view mirrors. It is necessarily like that because according to Toyota, designers spent five years developing the new logo in order to ensure that the design would be well-accepted in all of the company’s many international markets.

HYPERBOLA

The 3rd picture is a trophy that is shaped like a bowling pin. It is formed like that because it is from a bowling competition and the trophy was inspires by the bowling pin. It is formed like that because when it started there is no machine to set up the pins so the neck of the pin shaped like a hyperbola makes it easy to grab and set up again. It affects the use of the object for the shape gives it a low center of gravity. It is not formed into other shapes because a bowling pin's whole purpose is to fall over. If it never falls over, the game becomes far less interesting. It is necessarily shaped like that because of the three considerations in designing a bowling pin are durability, scoring, and sound.

PARABOLA

The 4th picture is a handheld fan, and this forms the conic section parabola. It is formed liked because of how it is made to be carried easily. The object is not formed into other shape so that it can be closed when not in use. It is not formed into other shapes because of its form when it is folded. This is necessarily shaped like that because the movement of a handheld fan provides cooling by increasing the airflow over the skin, which in turn increases the evaporation rate of sweat droplets on the skin. It also increases heat convection by displacing the warmer air produced by body heat that surrounds the skin. This evaporation has a cooling effect due to the latent heat of evaporation of water. Fans are convenient to carry around, especially folding fans.
