So I haven’t been uploading, but I totally have a good reason! My drawing tablet’s pen was broken, so I have to wait for my birthday till I can do anything on my laptop with PS. For now I’m just doodling on my Asus tablet with an app called Sketchbook. I’m using the free version so I only have like 3 layers so I mostly just use it for doodles and whatnot. Anyways, my tablet hates Tumblr, so I have to email my work from there to my laptop, which is a hassle, so most of the stuff just stays there. But I had recently talked to Egophiliac about Minty (who is my fav pony W00t!) and thought about changing Minty’s hair from the short flippy cut I use to give her. Egophiliac came up with the great idea of pigtails for her, and after I looked at one of her sketches of Minty I was inspired. I tried swirls and curls because well, mints are swirly, but it never looked right, so I finally just decided, ‘PFT’ and went with cotton candy puff hair. And she came out looking adorbs if I do say so myself. Which of course inspired the Rarity comic to the left after fighting with her hair so much. I also like to think that Minty is still connected to the holidays, so I made her the Guardian of Hearthfire for Hearth’s Warming Eve. Story is, one year it was especially cold and very slim for all ponykind, and because of this, animosity and fighting grew among the ponies, feeding the Windigos and making it all the more cold. Minty, in the midst of all of this, was a simple candy maker who loved to celebrate holidays and the togetherness of holidays. But sadly with all the ponies acting as they were, Minty began to fear that no presents or showing of caring and love would happen this Hearth’s Warming Eve. Unsure what to do, Minty worried about it for awhile until she saw some young foals trekking through the horrible blizzard and invited them in to her home. They were orphans who had come looking for supplies but had been rejected by all they asked help from. Minty gave them some food and candy and some of her favorite socks to keep them warm and let them stay with her. During the night, she heard the foals talking among themselves, saying they had felt so happy to just receive some kindness, even if it was just some socks and bits of candy. Emboldened that even something so little as warm socks and some candy could warm hearts, Minty began to make candies with what little supplies she had left, and from her own collection of socks, donned her most warm and stuffed little candies into her many precious socks and braved the howling blizzard outside. She headed for each house in her village, and left a sock filled with a few candies, running off with a knock to their door. But the Windigos wouldn’t leave Minty be, and continued to attack her with howling winds and cold ice. Minty did the best she could, but soon, grew tired and cold, unable to withstand the freezing temperatures. Still, even as she fell into the snow, Minty tried to get up and keep going. The Windigos closed in on their prey, wishing to eliminate this threat and freeze her permanently, but Minty’s heart refused to give up, and just as they were upon her, Minty felt her heart seem to explode with warmth. Her body morphed into a powerful alicorn of Hearthsfire, and with her new found power, she banished the Windigos away. Once sure her village was safe, Minty noticed her sack of candies was now full to the brim with warm socks stuffed with candies and toys. Overjoyed, Minty began to fly to each and every house through the fire in their hearths, leaving a sock filled with goodies on each mantle, and she never ran out of socks filled with goodies in her magical sack. After finishing her village, Minty decided she would spread this warmth to other villages, and continued through the night, appearing through the warm flames, warming homes and leaving her present stuffed socks for everyone in the home. When the dawn arrived, the blizzard had finally died as the many ponies found these gifts and grew warmth inside their hearts, forcing the Windigos to retreat for another year. Minty returned to her home in this form, and the orphans amazed as she gave them each one of her present filled socks. When the last was given, Minty felt the power leave her and returned to normal, and she celebrated Hearths Warming Eve with the orphans, who then went on to spread the story of the Guardian of Hearthsfire. And every Hearth’s Warming Eve, with the glow of Hearthsfire in her heart, Minty once again becomes the Guardian and spreads the gifts stuffed in a sock on the mantle like she did those many years ago for one night. Eh, it’s a fun story atleast to me, I doubt Hasbro will do it or anything, but it’s still fun to think about. Anyways, here you go Ego! Have some Minty in pigtails! :D
