VoiceTalks // Season 8 Blind Auditions Continue
Welcome back to Voice Talks! Before we finish the blind auditions this coming week and dive into the battle rounds, let’s recap the BEST moments of this week’s blind auditions! Grab a drink, sit back and relax, this is going to be one hell of a recap!
We start off Monday’s episode with the coaches backstage with Carson Daly plotting against each other to win contestants. However two particular coaches, Blake and Christina shared some humor and sweet adorable banter that couldn’t be passed over. Christina stated that she’s “dying to get a country artist, just to shoveit in [Blake’s] face!” And Blake retaliated adorably, “I’m sorry Christina; I still love you. Will you say it back?” Icouldn’t help but smiled. I love their relationship; I would like to remind everyone that Blake had a long time crush on Ms. Aguilera and somewhere deep down his soul, his feelings are still lingering somewhere. Can’t blame the fella! And before anyone goes he’s married to Miranda Lambert; yes I know. Don’t get your panties in a bunch. Aguilera responded, “See if you feel the same after this,” which Blake finishes, “She did not. Bring it on, sister. Let’s go!” Hash tag BlakeTina, ya’ll!
The first artist that caught my attention as blind auditions started rolling was Travis Ewing. He did his own arrangements and rendition to one of the biggest R&B girl group, EVER, Destiny’s Child, “Say My name.” He had such a nice rasp to his voice that resonate after he finishes the performance. I wanted him to go with Christina however; Pharrell’s pitch definitely won his heart over. The brother just always has the right things to say at the right time. He is smooth, so smooth sometimes that I’m like this is unbelievable. I can’t believe he is pulling all that out of his ass right then and there. He can talk to me every day. I give him my undivided attention. His pitch is like Michael Jackson’s moonwalking across the stage. WILLIAMS IS THAT SMOOTH.
Let’s not forget when Ewing cut Adam off and accidentally initiated that Levine was an idiot, which caused a ruckus with Blake and Christina. If you were following the Voice live feed during the episode, you would’ve seen Christina tweet, stating that she was in stitches when that happen. However she hash tag that “Adam is not [an idiot] and that she “actually loves him.” UM, did your heart picked up speed? Mine stopped beating.
Adam then decided to do his own blind audition with Elton John’s hit, “Tiny Dancer.” Christina hit her button first. And she didn’t hit it in any old typical hand over button fashion; she hit it with her heel; her leg shooting up and everything. You can tell straight up mama have been practicing her yoga. Adam does yoga too, if you didn’t already know. I’ll let you guys have fun dreaming for a bit. Okay, you finish with your little #AdamTina rendezvous in your head? He then shyly looked away and went with his gut, ahem his heart, to pick Christina as his coach! By the look of Christina’s face, she already knew he was going to pick her. It was obvious! Adam has wanted to be on Christina’s team since forever. He even vocalized about it on Season 5 and his endless compliments about her every season, even on seasons she wasn’t even on. The guy is a fan of Christina Aguilera. Scratch that, the guy is secretly in love with Christina Aguilera. Dare I say why is he married again? The fellow coach is also officially added to Team Christina’s roster. This better mean that we are getting Moves Like Jagger 2.0. Oh and is it me, or this was the best live performance I have seen Levine do? Don’t get me wrong, I’m not trying to salt his game but I do notice that whenever Aguilera is present, he definitely up his singing game. I mean, the guy has to do what he has to do to impress his lady, am I right or am I right?
Speaking of Levine’s leading lady, aka Christina Aguilera had somewhat a slow night. She hadn’t picked up any artist until Sonic came along. I mean at this point of the competition, Aguilera is smart. Can’t be adding any artists, just to get artists. Sonic sang “Money On My Mind,” which impressed both Adam and Christina. Can these two be any similar? I can promise you if you see Christina pushing her button for a particular contestant, Adam is not too far behind. Christina didn’t waste any time to make it known that Sonic should be on her team. Adam chimed in and goes, “[Christina] is a lioness.” The Grammy Award Winner replied with the cutest rawr ever. UM, can I buy that as my text message ringtone somewhere please? Adam smirked adorably after hearing and added, “I am also a lioness.”
Let’s take a pause for a moment and recap those 5 seconds of gold.
Adam: “She is a lioness.”
Christina: RAWR “But you are too.”
Adam Levine: “I am also a lioness.”
Allie: Say you’re a bird.
Noah: If you’re a bird, I’m a bird.
If you don’t remember, earlier on The Voice, Adam did an interview with Access Hollywood I believe and the interviewer asked him that if The Voice was a movie, which actors would he choose for his fellow voice coaches. He stated clearly without hesitation, “Christina Aguilera would be played by Rachel McAdams.”
Say you’re dead, cause I’m dead. In fact, I’m gone. The reference was so clear here that I am melting. Can someone send for a paramedic? Your girl needs CPR ASAP.
All right I don’t know how I’m going to proceed to discuss about the next blind audition, but somebody has to do it. Let’s talk about India Carney, a UCLA undergraduate. She had the coaches go crazy AND for good reason. I am going to quote Pharrell, “She is a vocal beast.” And that she is! Sister got soul and can SANG! She is definitely thee person who will be leading Team Christina to the finals. All the coaches better watch out. India Carney will and can take it all! She is also a childhood friend of Ansel Elgort! Yes you read that right – Augustus Waters from “The Fault In Our Stars.” Seriously the girl has it made!
The second night of the blind audition continues on Tuesday, starting off with a fun song and cover of Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance With Somebody.” I was dancing in my seat. It is one of my favorite songs from Ms. Houston as well as Christina’s. Yeah we share the same influences cause we tight like that! Christina didn’t turn for Ashley Morgan and personally I wouldn’t neither. I just felt her audition was too rush and she added unnecessary runs to the song that is not needed. I felt like she added those runs to illustrate that she can sing. If you can sing, you don’t need extra sauce. The extra sauce is nice but it can get annoying and that was the case for me, for Morgan.
Pharrell and Christina then went head to head to win over Koryn Hawthorne, which I love. These two have so much respect for each other; it is so adorable to watch. Pharrell initiated the hug between the two to demonstrate that no matter whom she chooses, there was no bad blood between the two. I mean how can there ever be bad blood between the two? They are so in awe of each other’s talents among other things I can’t count with both of my hands, its just pure love. They hugged and obviously Adam can’t stand anyone else hugging Christina beside him that he had to distract himself from his feelings and went after Shelton to hide away his evident jealousy. I mean hello that’s the only explanation. After that, he wittingly went over to get in between Pharrell and Christina. I mean OF COURSE HE DID; like I said, he can’t stand when Christina is getting chummy with another coach. It took him a long time to get over the hump between Blake and Christina. Scratch that, he never did. Where was I? Oh so the leading Maroon 5 front man is now between Pharrell and Christina and held their hands to see who will win over Hawthorne. It is just his excuse to hold Aguilera’s hand but you know since he’s married, he can’t just hold her hand without creating a stir so he had to hold Williams too. At this point if you look closely, really closely, Adam was holding onto Christina’s hand so tightly. After Hawthorne chose Christina as her coach, Christina let go of Adam’s hand immediately. If you pan into Adam’s face quickly, you can see he got a bit shy and disappointed as his hand was still in the air, while Christina was heading toward her team member. Oh Adam.
Jeremy Gaynor. What can I say about him besides thanking him first and foremost for serving – he and many is the reason why we can live the life that we do. What else I can say is that what a voice man! He has that timeless voice that reminds me of another R&B legend, Mr. Brian McKnight. If Mr. McKnight’s name doesn’t ring a bell, shame on you! And if you didn’t know he performed with Christina several times, shame on you twice! And if you didn’t know he appeared on MMC, shame on you three times! Seriously! GET OUT OF HERE, YOU! I’m kidding. I’m kidding. Gaynor, if he survives this season, his voice will always be around for a long time. It is one of those voices like McKnight that you just can’t get tired of.
Besides this intense recap, if you’re going to take away anything (obviously Adam and Christina being one of them), Blake Shelton knows what SKORTS IS. Take a moment and let that sink. Besides Shelton ‘fake limp,’ I love the interaction between Pharrell and Christina when she did the ‘Pharrell walk.’ She was so adorable! And is it me or Christina likes ordering Pharrell to do things? IT’S CUTE. He does it too with pleasure. YET AGAIN obviously, Adam has to get in that action. He did his normal walk while Christina finishes her ‘Pharrell walk.’ I SWEAR I am in love with these four coaches. Their poking fun and taking jab at each other is genuine and with love. You can NOT (NOT) like them.
I think these are pretty solid recaps to get ya’ll ready for The Voice this week! If you didn’t already know, Nick Jonas will be joining Christina Aguilera as a mentor this season. I am ecstatic about this duo; to be honest, I wasn’t expecting this pairing but I am elated that it happened. I wasn’t a fan of the Jonas Brothers but they were big enough that I have heard of them. But their material wasn’t my cup of tea, HOWEVER, I am so glad Nick Jonas did his own thing because now I can say I am a Jonas fan, well one of the Jonas clan’s fan. He released his album last year (which I coped) and dare I say if he continues to work hard, he can definitely be the next Justin Timberlake sans the dance moves. Don’t get me wrong, ain’t nobody can replace Timberlake, there is only one, as there is only one Christina Aguilera but we got room for new generations. Humility will get you far - remember that.
Adam Levine has Ellie Goulding joining him and before you say Christina looks like Ellie due to the previews you’ve seen, don’t. Please don’t. She doesn’t. Not to say Ellie isn’t attractive but if you’re going to say Christina looks like somebody, best believe they better be older. It doesn’t make sense to say Christina looks like Ellie when Christina came first. THINK ABOUT IT. It just my thing – I think things in an orderly fashion. Pharrell Williams has Lionel Richie, which I’m a big fan of; Christina had the pleasure of having him the first season if memory serves me while Blake Shelton chose Meghan Trainor. I didn’t see that one coming but I adore Trainor; if you haven’t taken a listen to her album, do! It’ll put you in a good mood.
I can’t wait for the Battle Rounds! Why? I can finally see some new outfits on the coaches! I know, go ahead and laugh! Honestly, I just want to see Christina Aguilera in a new outfit, new makeup and new hair. Did you see the previews for the next episode? SHE LOOKS DROP DEAD GORG. I mean, drop dead now while you can and then resuscitate come Monday so you can be alive to see Christina in her flesh. God, does that woman ever age? Before I sign off, mark your calendars when Aguilera come for country on ABC’s Nashville on March 26th!
