gauging interest: 1d x oc big bang
hello! this is @wokeuptired, back at it again with the projects i don’t have time for. i’ve run fic exchanges before with success, so as my schedule becomes even crazier, i’ve decided it’s time to take on something of more monumental scale: a big bang. this post is to gauge interest in a big bang, so please reblog, reply, follow, and message me if you’re interested!
possible questions you may have:
what is a big bang?
a big bang is a fic endeavor that takes place over several months and results in projects of at least 20k words. writers commit to completing a project and check in with me every few months so that i can make sure you’re on track. after writers sign up and commit to an idea (though you can change what you’re writing later!), artists sign up to work with an author to create art (photosets, banners, etc.) for their story. also, possibly, playlists.
how would this big bang be different from other 1d big bangs that i’ve seen? how is a big bang different from a fic exchange?
this big bang would be exclusively for het fics featuring original characters. unlike my previous fic exchanges. all fics would be posted in their entirety on 1dff, not hosted on tumblr. also unlike a fic exchange, in a big bang writers choose what they want to write about and are not responding to prompts supplied by another writer.
would i have to finish my whole story before the deadline?
yes! although writers on 1dff tend to post stories in installments, in a big bang stories are posted entirely at once, as with a fic exchange. they can, however, still have parts. this is a really cool opportunity because it allows writers to develop entire stories before they post, it allows readers to consume stories all at once without waiting for updates, and it will also make us all feel really productive.

1D SPRING CLEANING FIC EXCHANGE
Hi Everyone! My name is Charlotte, and I’m exciting to announce the 1D Spring Cleaning Fic Exchange!
SIGN UP HERE BY DECEMBER 18!
Information:
The only requirements to be able to participate are having a tumblr and an email address.
While you aren’t required to include Spring themes in your story, it IS an Spring Cleaning fic exhange, so it’s encouraged to include Spring, but prompts are not restricted to spring themes.
Het fics only, and they must be AT LEAST 2500 words.
Must include at least one member of One Direction since this is a 1D fic exchange.
To Participate:
Must sign up (HERE) and answer all required questions, including 3 prompt ideas.
You will receive an email with 3 prompts, and someone else will recieve your information. Remember to keep who you’re writing for a secret so it’s a surprise when the stories are posted.
You can drop out up 2 two weeks before the final deadline, but let me know ASAP so I can find someone to fill your spot. If you drop out, the person you’re writing for may not receive a story, which isn’t cool.
You can post your story on your tumblr or other website, but only after it’s been posted on this tumblr.

i'm not sure if you're the one to ask, but how do you get into the reading/judging/awarding fic business? is it only a 1dff site admin thing? i spend so much time reading fic and i'd really like to communicate with the writers on a 'more than an admiring reader' level if you know what i mean
Hmm well I think most of the awards blogs were established by writers/readers, not by admin, and they’re by no means official. But awards are reader-voted and I think that’s what makes them so special. If you’re interested in projecting your voice a bit louder you could start a review blog or participate really actively in @1dff-club – and there are a lot of ways to talk to writers outside of reviews – you sort of just have to message them and see where it goes. Honestly I think the best way to get more involved in the community is to start writing in it yourself, and there are tons of people who will support you if you want to do that. I hope that sort of answers your question? The community doesn't really have rules for participation -- you just have to find what works for you.

Announcing the 5sos valentine’s day fic exchange!
SIGN UP HERE BY FRIDAY NOVEMBER 20
General Info (this exchange is going to be a bit different than ones i’ve run in the past so make sure you read this!!)
This exchange will be run through tumblr, but fics will be posted by their writers on 5sosff, so participants need to have a 5sosff account. If you don’t have one, you can sign up here.
This is a Valentine’s Day exchange, so it’s a great opportunity for you to write a heart-wrenching or cheesy romance, but fics will not be restricted to those themes.
This exchange will include het fics only. Each story must contain at least one 5sos boy.
Word count minimum is 3000 words. There is no maximum word count.
Writers who don’t have a ton of experience are especially encouraged to sign up. This should be a fun experience for everyone!!
How it works
You will sign up via this google doc with three prompt ideas and info with what you’d like to write.
You will be e-mailed an assignment and given someone else’s request information. Meanwhile, someone else will receive your request and will be filling one of your prompts. It is important that you don’t reveal yourselves to your recipients or publicly talk in detail about your fic/assignment since the fics will be posted as a surprise.
If you won’t be able to finish, you can pull out up to two weeks before the deadline, but please let me know as soon as possible so that I can find someone else to fill your prompts.
Finished stories will be posted on 5sosff and linked on this tumblr. You can post your story later to 1dff/ao3/your tumblr if you’d like, but initially they will be posted here.
Stories will not be posted anonymously but will still be a fun surprise because you won’t know who’s writing for you until the stories are posted.
