critiquing the lyrics of one of my least favorite songs, Pink Hotel by Scene Queen

ok so first we start out with this

which is fine i guess. i really don’t mind the premise of a giant orgy hotel. even if it’s a little nonsensical

Ok mostly fine if a little cringe. but “stripper” throws me off. what do strippers have to do with this song? I know they’re associated with sex work but they’re not inherently promiscuous and it’s not like scene queen’s running a strip club here. so it’s either a poor word choice or scene queen’s implying that she’s a pimp sleeping with her employees (whom she also convinced to change their values?) which is kinda fucked up

and this part makes it worse. scene queen this sounds so rapey you know that right. “you didn’t ask for my ‘room service’ but I don’t let anyone avoid it” girl what. also isn’t the whole sex hotel thing supposed to be enjoyable? even if horrors is meant to be a pun on whores it’s still an interesting thing to evoke. and why are you threatening men with nonconsensual contact to their genitalia. scene queen that is sexual assault. i hate these lyrics so much. evil ass rape hotel

chorus is fine i guess, though a little confusing because she’s addressing the listener with a different tone than she was during the first verses. I’M tryna ride? girl you’re the one who wanted to give me some “room service” even though i “didn’t order”

laaaaaaame. ‘pent’ and ‘mom’ don’t rhyme so she’s literally rhyming house with house. and why did this song need a “your mom” jab? they’re tired at best and misogynistic at worst. also, pussy’s on the top floor? i thought you just said it was by the pool. is the pool on the top floor?

this part pisses me off. first of all, if you’re gonna talk about sluts and whores and strippers, just own it, don’t do this half-hearted disavowing of your own lyrics. It’s not even a good disclaimer. what do you mean you don’t think women are sluts? as in you don’t think women are promiscuous? some are, and some aren’t, and the people who use slut as an insult usually don’t use it against the latter group. what i think scene queen means is that she doesn’t think slut is an appropriate thing to call a promiscuous woman, which is interesting, considering she does it multiple times during this song. also, who said being “caring, kind, and multi-faceted” was mutually exclusive with being promiscuous or a “slut?” just completely nonsensical and undermines the rest of her song.

really funny for her to call herself a household name. especially because her name is just like. a term. also i know that lyric is a reference to pink rover but out of context it sounds like she does circumcisions lol

ok i reached the mobile image limit which is fine because i dont have much more to say about the remaining lyrics except i guess “boyfriend in the basement” is an interesting addition when combined with the reference to forced CBT earlier in the song. evil ass rape hotel. ok bye
