I wonder if there’s some historical significance (i.e. in indicating certain societal shifts) to how it seems that sometime after WW2-ish there was a far less penetrating theoretical grasp of the fallacy of misplaced concreteness, to use Whitehead’s term, more or less equivalent to the dualism between form and content Lukacs critiqued, which was also the central problem for the classical pragmatists (and the distinction between the classical pragmatists and e.g. Rorty on how much they grasped the problematic dualism of form and content is a very telling example of what I mean).
