āTheyāll send someone tougher next time.ā Reggie replied rather grimly. She shivered again, this time for a burst of frigid air coming from the broken window. āIt wonāt be a fun walk, but I have somewhere we can go until help gets here. Are you⦠opposed to bars?ā
It wasnāt the most high end or fancy bar in town, but it served its purpose. The bartender was a retired overwatch agent and let the organization use the back for its operations when need be. The little hole in the wall was often frequented by bikers, hookers, and any other manner of rabble the town had. Somehow, the old military man that ran it kept it in check.
āOkay, I donāt like being all bossy and I donāt blame you if you change your mind about coming in,ā Reggie said as she paused in front of the tinted glass door that led into the bar. āBut please donāt talk to anyone while weāre in the actual bar. The girls will just want to eat you- and whatever money you have- up and the guys⦠well, they donāt much like tough looking people like you. They know me, so it shouldnāt be too bad. If you want a drink, just tel the bartender to put it on my tab.ā
She pushed the door open and immediately they were met with a blast of warm, cigarette smoke and liquor scented air. The place was abuzz with people and neon lights, and one group of particularly grungy looking men hollered at Reggie rather raucously. She just rolled her eyes and motioned for Hanzo to follow.
There was no doubt in his mind that what Reggie said was true. Talon was not one known for giving up, and although they had scared whatever minions these were for a while⦠it was just a matter of time before someone newer and more dangerous arrived. Hanzo nodded grimly in response, almost losing her response having been so deeply embedded in his thoughts.
āI guess not-ā he had no other place to go, it seemed. A bar might have been just what he needed at that moment anyways.
The place she had taken him seemed⦠questionable at best, although he didnāt expect anything extravagant. But Hanzo had been hoping for something⦠better. What better meant, he wasnāt sure, but it wasnāt this.
But despite that, the man politely didnāt let his disdain show. Runaway or not, he was still accustomed to more fancy places to go to to spend his downtime at the bottom of a bottle, but he didnāt have plans to get drunk here as it was. Heād bear it, if only for a little.
Reggieās words did very little to soothe his thoughts. This time he couldnāt hide the scowl that formed on his features at the idea of being the object of attention the moment he stepped in from both parties. Although he was no stranger to one night stands and bar fights, tonight was not the night for either. Today the best he could hope for and the best he wanted was a bottle, nothing more and nothing less.
āUnderstood,ā his tone was bland, masterfully devoid of the scorn he had on his features merely seconds ago. That too, however, was gone; both were replaced by a cool indifference.
He followed obediently behind the woman who seemed to know what she was doing, although the men who yelled obscenely towards her was enough to get him riled up in less then a second. This wasnāt what he was used to; even the worst bars heād gone to had people with some semblance of respect both to themselves and to others.
Hanzo had a strange feeling that there were very scarce limits in places like these.
āWhat do they have?ā he was more than willing to pick up a bottle to forget the pain, but right now he was more interested in bearing the scent and noise more than anything. Alcohol would definitely help with that.
