24 Things I Learned From 24
After penning 30 Things I Learned From 30, my friend and insanely talented rapper Pell requested I do a list for his upcoming birthday, 24. I started this blog right when I turned 25, so I never really reflected on 24 much here! As such, I dug real deep into 2009-2010 for my buried life lessons, and this is what I got:
Having been going to bars for three years, this is the year you settle on a signature drink and decide if you are a vodka, whiskey, or gin drinker.
Even saving $50 a month makes a difference.
You probably only have one more year left to tailgate at your collegeâs football games like youâre still in college before you start to feel like that creepy old person who is still shotgunning beers with 19 year olds.
Credit cards are dangerous.
You can know you donât want to spend your life with someone and still stay in a relationship with them.
The most fun nights are always the ones when you had every intention of staying home but got dragged out by your friends.
Always say yes to happy hour.
Urban Outfitters and IKEA are good places to shop for home goods you know you wonât have forever.
Sometimes it can feel like everyone else has their shit together except for you.
When your boss calls you into their office, it will always feel like youâre in trouble, even when youâre not.
One night stands donât feel as good as the way the story sounds when you retell it to your friends.
Traveling is really expensive and you donât understand how everyone in your Instagram feed is doing it.
Being in your friendâs wedding is expensive and you swear that youâll never be like that when you get married.
Nothing you learned in college is applicable to whatever job youâve taken.
You donât like your job, but you also donât know what else youâd want to do and you donât have the money or the balls to quit, so you stay.
Going out on a weeknight hurts, but itâs usually always worth feeling like shit the next day.
Itâs hard to admit that youâve outgrown friendships, and ever harder to admit theyâve outgrown you too.
Your parents have their own life and wonât always call you back.
Itâs scary to take a big risk or make a big move, but you are confident in the safety net of youth, knowing you can always catch up if you fail.
Itâs easy to get wholly wrapped up in a relationship, job, or lifestyle for a year.
Your best friends might distance themselves from you for whatever reason, and that sucks. But, theyâre still your best friends.
Going home feels weird because you know you arenât a kid anymore.
Running into people from high school is no longer fun; itâs just weird to small talk with people you used to kind of know.
The whole year feels like youâre waiting for 25 so you can be taken seriously.
