CALLING EVERYONE WHO IS LOCAL TO LEEDS!
365 Days of People is going to be exhibited at 42 New Briggate, Leeds, alongside other photographic work by the talented people on my degree.
The exhibition opens up tonight, and all are welcome to drop on by. It shall be running until wednesday the 11th of June too, so you should definitely find time to call in at some point.

It is the final day of my year long project, and today I met seventy six year old Vivienne.
Vivienne is originally from Leeds, and throughout her childhood she was inspired by a very good drama teacher to be an actress. After school she was accepted into the Bradford Repertory Theatre, however unfortunately her parents decided she was not allowed to leave home, therefore Vivienne never got to follow her dream.
Moving on, Vivienne searched Leeds for a florist job, however after a big struggle she started working at the Schofields department store in retail. She really enjoyed working in retail, and stayed there until having her first child when she was in her twenties. Vivienne became a full time mum and had another child, however when her marriage fell apart she was forced to return to work. At this point in her life she started working in retail again, this time working as a fitting room controller at a C&A dress shop.
Vivienne stayed with the C&A for twenty eight years, until retiring when she was sixty years old. Now happily retired, she spends a lot of her time working closely with the church helping out with projects and she is enjoying the rest of her retirement.

Just one more day left to go, and today I met twenty year old Josh who is originally from London.
When Josh was very young, he moved to Berkshire where he spent the majority of his early childhood, before moving to Shropshire when he was ten years old. In Shropshire, Josh discovered sports and he became passionate about rugby. Throughout his teenage years he played the sport at county level, and then in his final year of high school he was accepted into to the Leicester Tigers Academy. Josh played rugby with the Tigers for a year, until being forced to drop the team to focus on his studies.
At A-level Josh studied Maths, PE and Biology, and although he had no career path in his mind at the time, he really enjoyed the subjects and had a good time studying them. Last September, he moved to Cardiff to study Sociology at Cardiff University, and despite having very little experience in the subject beforehand, he is really enjoying his degree. Just finishing up his first year now, Josh is looking forward to a summer of fun, before returning to his studies to discover which area of sociology he would like to specialise in.

Today I met David who is originally from Lancashire.
Despite his parents wishing he had of just watched television, throughout his childhood David enjoyed writing and painting. Although he always aspired to go to art college, it wasn’t until he won a scholarship to the Bolton Regional College of Art his dream became a reality. Unfortunately after six months, David had to leave college for funding reasons. He then left home and moved to Manchester to find a job in advertising and marketing.
In Manchester, David got his first job as a junior in a marketing company, and he later moved to London where he started working for the top creative advertising agency of the time. With plenty of experience under his belt, he then spent two years in Munich creating graphics for the Olympics Organisation.
Following Munich, David moved to Amsterdam where he met his first wife, and had his first two children. When the marriage fell apart, he then spent some time living in America, before returning to England to pursue a career in writing. After doing well in a play writing competition, David wrote a series of children’s books for Ladybird, however following another failed marriage he decided to move to the lake district to teach.
In 1987, David opened up his own writing agency. The business had a really good four years and did incredibly well, before David returned to advertising; working as a consultant. Following a third failed marriage however, he decided to take on a boring job, and he started working in banking. For the past seven years, he has been working for Lloyds Banking, however in the near future David plans on working less, and by the end of the year he hopes to be fully retired.

This afternoon I met twenty nine year old Gwen, who is originally from Brisbane in Australia.
Throughout her childhood Gwen was influenced heavily by music, and after getting into punk when she was fifteen years old, she started playing bass in a band called Parkatron. Whilst playing with Parkatron, Gwen discovered a passion for singing, and she later began programming music, whilst in an electro punk band called Molliger.
When she was twenty three years old, Gwen took out a loan to see Scottish goth band, ‘The Jesus Mary Chain’ live in England. Although it was initially meant to be just a two week trip, in Leeds she fell in love with the music scene, and she decided to get a Visa to stay here long term. Gwen settled into Leeds very quickly, and after finding a stable job in IT, she became the lead singer/screamer of band ‘Executive Legs’.
Gwen has now been with ‘Executive Legs’ for five years and although it can sometimes be exhausting, being in the band is really fun. In the future she would like to continue working in IT, but the band is always at the front of her mind.

Today I met Linda who is originally from Reading.
Throughout her childhood Linda really enjoyed sports, however towards the end of high school she discovered a love of french language, when she spent her summer living there. When she was eighteen years old, Linda then moved to Surrey to study French at university in Kingston upon Thames.
Linda had a really good time at university, and she even spent a year of her degree living in Lyon in France. Following graduation, she then used her degree to teach French classes in London, before returning to Reading to settle down and buy a house.
For the past twenty years Linda has been working in IT training, and although she started off in sales, she now works in management. Linda now has two young children, and in the near future she would like to take them on long haul trips to Goa to return to family heritage.

This afternoon I met eighteen year old Shaquila, who is originally from Leeds.
Shaquila has always enjoyed art, and towards the end of high school she was encouraged by her teacher to experiment with graphic design. In sixth form she studied the subject at A-level and she really enjoyed creating things independently.
The course introduced her to photography, and after studying A-levels at sixth form, Shaquila decided to go to college to study Photography A-level alongside three other subjects. She is really enjoying her photography class, and in the future she would like to pursue a career in the medium. University is possibly on the horizon for Shaquila, however after speaking to other photographers she is planning on becoming an assistant first.

This morning I met James who is originally from Pristine, a countryside village on the Welsh border.
Throughout his childhood James enjoyed reading and sailing, however in school he discovered interests in English, Psychology and Physics. After school, he left the countryside and moved to Leeds, to Study English Language and Literature at Leeds University.
He had a really good three years and enjoyed his degree thoroughly, then following graduation, James decided to stay in Leeds to make the city home. Initially he spent two years working as a journalist for a digital news agency, and he then went freelance, in order to make time to study a graduate diploma at the BPP Law School. Although balancing the two was sometimes intense, it was worth it.
Now graduated from Law School, James has been working as a Paralegal in industrial deafness for the past nine months. So far he finds the job really interesting, and he hopes to make a good career out of Law. Eventually however, James would like to return to English to study a PHD, and this will hopefully allow him to work as a lecturer when he gets older.

Today I met Paul who is originally from Leeds.
In school Paul discovered a love of science, and after experimenting in the classroom, he left school age seventeen and began working for Leeds University as an Electron Microscopist technician. At this time in his life, he had his first daughter, however that didn’t put him off from working hard and training at Leeds Polytechnic College to get to the top of the technical grades.
Paul still works at Leeds University, and he shall soon be celebrating thirty four years of working there. He now specialises in health and safety management, however in the near future he plans on retiring to holiday in the sun and enjoy the rest of his life.

This morning I met Charlotte, who is originally from Halifax.
When she was younger, Charlotte enjoyed art, and towards the end of high school she discovered a love of photography. She then went to college in Huddersfield where she studied a Diploma in Photography and Design. Charlotte really enjoyed the two year course, and it has inspired her to start her own photography business.
Charlotte is currently specialising in portraiture, however ideally she would like to be photographing live music. She loves going to gigs and it would be her dream career to work at them. When her business is up and running she plans on moving to Leeds, where there a plenty of live venues to choose from.

This afternoon I met Helena, who is originally from Gateshead in the North East.
Throughout her childhood Helena enjoyed art, and in secondary school she discovered a love of different types of art; particularly art originating from Germany. After school, she then decided to move to Leeds to study The History of Art and English at Leeds University. Now in her second year, Helena is really enjoying the course, however she does sometimes wish she studied a course more based around Art, rather than English.
Looking up though, Studying English has its advantages and in the future Helena would like to study an MA in Glasgow based around the avant garde art movement. She is interested in the “weird arts”, and eventually Helena would like to work either in education, or in an art galley. She is currently applying to volunteer at local art galleries in Leeds.

Early this evening I met Paul who is originally from Leeds.
Paul discovered a passion for art before he could even walk, and with his mothers encouragement, he began exploring different types of illustration. After school, he then went to Leeds College of Art and studied a BTEC in Illustration which he really enjoyed. Shortly after his college course, Paul started working for a local games company called the ‘Code Monkeys’ where he trained up to be a 3D artist.
Describing his time with the company as “three years of very unpleasant hell”, the company wasn’t all it cracked up to be and after he left, Paul was put off from a similar career. He spent almost a decade working lots of different odd jobs, and then “Rapidly approaching thirty” he decided to get back into art by experimenting with web design.
Paul then decided to return to education,and he studied a degree in Multimedia at Leeds Metropolitan University. Since graduating with excellent grades, he has been working on a paid internship with an advertising agency in Leeds and all being well, he shall continue working with them in the future.

This afternoon I met Rozi who is originally from Totteridge in London.
After joining a youth group when she was fourteen years old, Rozi discovered a passion for acting and music and she originally aspired to be a professional viola player. Following school however, she decided to play it safe and study a course in occupational therapy, but unfortunately Rozi was forced to drop out of her college course due to personal reasons.
After working in antique shops for a while, Rozi moved on with life and she studied a teaching course to teach primary school children. Following the course, she then went travelling with her boyfriend of the time, and she spent a year or so living and working in Canada before returning to England to pursue a career in teaching.
Over the years Rozi has taught all ages, specialising in music and the arts. In between teaching jobs, she also returned to her first passion of occupational therapy, working in hospitals as an assistant which she really loved. Missing the fast paced life of a teacher however, she returned to teaching before retiring when she was sixty years old.

Today I met sixty three year old Rita, who is originally from Bradford.
Throughout her childhood Rita was interested in beauty, however in search of a well paid job, following school she decided to study Science at Bradford College. After college, she then studied a Solvent Extraction course at Bradford University which she really enjoyed. Following her qualifications, Rita got a job at Bradford University working as a senior laboratory technician in research and teaching.
Rita worked at Bradford university for over thirty five years, before retiring when she was sixty years old. Not one to sit around doing nothing though, she still returns to Bradford University to help out when needed. Rita is enjoying retirement with her partner, and they spend a lot of time travelling and looking after her nieces children.
For anybody local to Leeds, there shall be a feature of this project tomorrow (Monday) in the Yorkshire Evening Post. So exited to see it :)

This afternoon I met thirty year old Sam, who is originally from Leeds.
Throughout his childhood Sam played a lot of sport, and he particularly enjoyed football. From the age of nine he played for Bradford City, and then when he was sixteen years old he studied a sports coaching course in Harrogate.
Sam really enjoyed the course, and after receiving his qualifications he did some voluntary work for Leeds United, before moving to America where he spent a year football coaching. Sam then returned to England and he spent seven years coaching young children at Leeds United full time.
In search of a bigger challenge, Sam then left Leeds United to coach sixth form football in Halifax. Alongside this, he also began studying a Sports Coaching degree at Leeds Metropolitan University, which he is due to finish this year. Although he has dedicated most of his life to football, Sam recently decided to take a complete career change, and this coming August he shall be joining the army as part of the Household Cavalry.
