1 PM - MASS MANUFACTURING WITH 3D PRINTERS presented by Paul Siegel of Digital Double. Paul is the owner of Digital Double, a 3d animation art and design studio located in Redmond, WA founded in 2004. In 2011 they became one of the first companies in the Northwest to offer 3D printing services (now tallying over 40,000 parts printed to date). With the release of Armature Nine in 2012, the studio became the first to devise a 3D printed product sold in masse across the globe (over thirty countries and counting). The studio continues to operate a motion capture and 3D Printing manufacturing facility powered by eleven FDM 3D Printers. Products include: ArmatureNine, PowerPosers, TheRooler & TinyTowns. 1:30 PM - MEDICAL IMAGE SEGMENTATION AND 3D PRINTING presented by Michael Fassbind of Med-Mod. Michael Fassbind is a MSME with 9 years experience working at the Seattle VA hospital in biomechanical research. During that time his primary focus was on working with medical imaging technology and test fixturing. From 2008 he began following 3D printing as it developed in the open source community. As the technology improved he decided to move it from a hobby to a business and Medical Models was started in the summer of 2013 to support the medical and maker community.
2 PM - e-NABLE: GIVING THE WORLD A HELPING HAND presented by Ivan and Jen Owen. Ivan and Jen will talk about the e-NABLE community and the “3d Mechanical Hand – Maker Movement” that was inspired by Ivan Owen’s original, innovative design of a 3d printed prosthetic hand. These prosthetic devices have been used by both children and adults who were either born without fingers or who have lost them due to accident, disease or war and are being created by the global community of e-NABLE who are using their 3D printers to create these devices for free for those in need.
In addition to his work with e-NABLE, Ivan works with UW, Bothell campus to oversee student groups working on new and improved prosthetic designs for the e-NABLE community. These new designs will be incorporated into future versions of the mechanical 3d printed prosthetic hand.
Jen is the “Voice of e-NABLE”. As Communications Manager for the community, she manages the on-line presence of e-NABLE and also helps match parents of children in need to volunteer makers and schools with 3d printers.
