cutie!Barry Allen in Each Episode - 207 Gorilla Warfare
“Zoom destroyed me. He showed everyone in Central City what he could do and that I’m powerless to stop him. They gave me the key to the city, Joe. I’m supposed to be their hero. I’m supposed to be the guy who can protect them from something as evil as that, and I failed. In front of all of them! When they see The Flash, all they see now is someone not strong enough to protect them.”
Why else would you fall for him? He did everything right! And you dove through a hole in the universe for me!
With a grumble, she was half-debating pulling the cigarettes out of her bag again. The prospect of dragging herself through months of cravings and weight gain and attempts to quit, only to fail again was almost enough to put her off before she even started. “Hm. Those hypnotists always strike me as fucking creeps. Same for magicians. And clowns…Don’t get me started on fucking clowns.”
“Clown?” Kevin repeated, “what’s so bad about clowns?” It always struck him how strange his childhood had actually been. He had been afraid of things, but nothing like clowns. And yet it seemed like half the people he met these days had a thing. “you totally look like you could take a clown,” he said, glancing down at her shoes. “unless he’s, you know, a balloon animal ninja.”
“–I’ve been feelin’ like that a long time,” Owen shrugged, eyes glancing over to attempt to see what he was talking about, “–What’s got you saying that?” He wondered aloud. Law school made him feel that way, all the time and prison, well, he wouldn’t speak of that, but god it made him feel like the living dead.
“Apparently it gets around,” Kevin replied, looking over at the blonde. “I’ve got to take this chemistry class,” he said, “apparently studying computer science is coming back to bite me in the ass in a big way.”
#why are you such a party pooper oliver
Aleks chuckled lightly, nodding. “Alright. Now that you’ve mentioned it, I’m kind of feeling like eating some doughnuts, too. C’mon. My treat.”
“Do you ever not feel like eating doughnuts?” he asked, raising his eyebrows in the direction of his new friend.
She’d been avoiding home, knowing that if she stayed there she’d never get up, and the fresh air and activity would do her well despite how she sick she was. A large sweater pulled over her small form to keep her warm, Ember had just received her meal when she heard the mumble of a familiar voice. Turning her attention to the sound a smile crawled across her face as she tip toed her way over to the table and then leaned around, dipping down to try and get his attention. “Will if it ain’t my partner in foodie fun.”
Kevin had never been too good when it came to temperature changes. Having a pulse was one thing, but when they were in the orphanage things like antibiotics were rare and when he ran away, well, then the only way to get them was to steal. So he had always been the first to bundle up. Still the sight of the small woman in the huge sweater put his warmer than necessary jacket to shame. He couldn’t help but smile at the words she said. “Its Kevin,” he offered “unless you wanna pretend to be cowboys, in which case we may have to experiment with tex-mex next.”
“Or I’d have broken them,” she said, making a face at that possible outcome. She gave a little smile. “I would, can’t replace those easily,” she joked lightly. Arizona nodded, assuring him. “Positive. Any longer and I would definitely be dipping my hands in ice later. Just punching bags, not people’s faces, I steer away from that level of violence. Plus, knowing me I’d break my hand instead of hurting them.”
“I like the way you think,” he said offhandedly. People tended to tell him to cheer up but there was definitely something to be said for people like him, those whose minds didn’t always go to the best case scenario. “it’s refreshing. For the record i’m glad your hands aren’t broken. Knowing me, I’d copy you and get mine broken too. And I’ve had enough broken bones in my life.”
“Yeah, there’s that I guess. I don’t know I guess it’s how I got them that bothers me the most.”
“Needle, thread--it’s not really all that fun. You didn’t miss much.”
“Hm I need to do something. Whatever it is.” She was furious at herself for having picked up the habit - after how long it took her to pack it in last time and the fact that she knew full well that she ought not to do it but continued anyway, she utterly resented it and herself. “I doubt the hypno shit is for me. I’m a skeptic - so really doubt it’ll work. But who knows. I’ll keep looking.”
“If it’s any consolation, the same’s true for me. Apparently hypnosis requires more trust than I’m willing to give someone who says they’re going to hypnotize me,” he said with a shrug. “Well the patch and the gum help break your nicotine addiction. I’ve never seen someone quit with e-cigs or just cold turkey, if that’s any help.”
“Oh doll, I’m always looking for something to do with my mouth” she cackled, catching wind of the comment. Jools pursed her lips as she considered the option. For all the reccommendations she had been given by ex-smoker and general pain-in-the-arse do-gooders, she had ignored most, instead telling herself that she should just go at it cold turkey. However, the vicious cycle in which she now found herself posed a rather difficult situation. “Y’know, I was too bloody stubborn to try any of that stuff - the patches, the e-cigs, all that…” she shrugged. “But now I’m sorta thinking I could do with it. I mean, my other half did the gum and that worked eventually. Hypnoisis maybe? Dunno. You ever tried quitting? Anything like that work for you?”
Kevin raised his eyebrows at her comment, though he knew he’d really walked into that one. He shook his head, trying to look sorry though he didn’t really feel it. The temptation had never really been there. Not between his parents and his business and, of course, the doctors and nurses making jokes about his chest being their vacation home. “me? No, I never started smoking,” he said, “and I only saw hypnosis work once at a magic show. Kind of not helpful if you’re trying to quit. Guess you should try the gum first, then maybe the patch?”
Lately Maisie was in a mode that she was unfamiliar with. The girl was not upset with the information that she was given. Her father had – or was still in the CIA and maybe he didn’t have the full complete lay down on Axel and that was why he sent to take care of her. Yeah Maisie was still making excuses to justify her father leaving her behind. A part – no her entire being was not letting her accept that her father was probably another let down in her life story. That was why she didn’t even dare touch the whole mother question either. She didn’t want to have her entire life crumble and besides she was working at Gemma’s basement and redoing the entire structure of her house, so the least she could do was stay focus on the task in front of her and not anything else. The main reason that she allowed Kevin to come was just to prove that she was not falling apart and she was fine. After demolishing the last wall she sat besides him as she opened a beer and held the bottle in front of her admiring her handy work, “Yeah you might want to do something – maybe get a hair cut or perhaps try some tight jeans – apparently that is a cool thing. Who knows, right?”
“I like my hair,” Kevin replied automatically, shoving his hands in his pockets so he would’t tug on the strands. “and I’ll leave the tight pants wearing to you,” he added. For most of their lives they had existed in hand-me-down clothes with rolled pants and shoved up sleeves. Kevin bit back the urge to ask Maisie if she was alright or not. He had his answer in the debris scattered around the space and forced way she was relaxing around him. Not that he could blame her. When Carter had left, he had decided to stay behind with her. And it had been because Ms. Katherine had information on her parents. Orphans wanting to know their parents wasn’t uncommon. Kevin’s dismissal of them had been strange in their world, though it had prevented Ms. Katherine from getting the upper hand on him. At least in that regard. But Maisie had a faith in the universe Kevin had never shared. And watching her learn that her father was alive and in line with a boy who broke her heart, well, as far as Kevin was concerned the guy was almost as low as his own father. At least his father had the decency to admit he was a monster. Kevin nudged the bag by his foot towards her. “I got burgers,” He offered.
Even in the face of danger, petty Barry Allen stay petty.
