My Island Finds

The Art Fair on the Governors Island is a cool adventure: take a short ferry ride to the former military grounds to find out a little bit of an “Alice’s Wonderland”. Fresh breeze, great views, quirky art pieces are included.

Treasures discovered:

- Mixed media provocative works by Daniel Allegrucci:

- Paper-mache sculptures by Bernice Sokol Kramer: 

- Site specific installations, inviting, but, well, “Do Not Touch the Exhibit” - it’s an artwork, at the end:

- Magical umbrella gazebo - the installation made of bicycle wheels, umbrellas, pieces of sky and sunlight:

- Spooky sculptures:

- Ephemeral structures:

- Joyful playgrounds:

- Enigmatic tiki:

- Lounge spots:

- Hidden erotic art (have you checked out what is in your kitchen cabinets?):

- Mesmerizing installations, literally underground, in a historic military magazine (slightly creepy!):

- Whimsical architectural constructions:

- Magnificent views:

The art fair is open on Governors Island every weekend in September. 

Getting there: take a ferry from Lower Manhattan or Brooklyn, every 30 minutes, till 7 pm on weekends.

Hello everyone! Thanks so much for your ongoing support and enthusiasm for this year’s Governor’s Island Art Fair! Please be advised that tomorrow is the last day to visit us down at the Island!

*We will be open from 11 am to 5:30 PM*

We ask if any of you are heading down there to check out the Art Shop! This is where you can buy miniature versions of the artwork featured in this year’s fair. Not only that, but we also have t-shirts, stickers, and postcards as well!

Daniel Allegrucci and Seirin Nagano (MFA AP13) are participating in the Governors Island Art Fair this month. The island was used by the military for years but is now run by the city and is the site of a full schedule of cultural programming from Spring to Fall. One Hundred artists are set up in former barracks on Colonels Row and are utilizing any and all spaces in these buildings. A lot of visitors rent or bring a bicycle to explore the island. The fair is open every full weekend of September from 11am-6pm: Sept 5 & 6, 12 & 13, 19 & 20, and 26 & 27.

The art installation runs every weekend in September 2015 on Governors Island off of New York City. Over 100 artists have taken over rooms from abandoned military barracks and transformed them into a showcase for painting, photography, sculpture, installation, video and sound art.
