K'athea's design is a bit outdated here and the scenes are not as canon anymore but these were fun explorations of their dynamic.

Ash is again a pretty "fuck it we ball" kind of character, as a way to fight her anxiety. K'athea is stoic for the most part but can get playful (and cocky) at times.

Also, gotta love how I've drawn so many funny silly scenarios with them while I'm here writing angst after angst for the story.

Hearing this makes me really happy because I swear, I've been drawing these fuckers since I was basically in elementary school and watched the first AvP movie.

I still think I have much to learn (the crest area still kicks my ass and the head proportions are a hit or miss) so I do still like to find more and more artists to look at ^^

There was an artist on ig I used to study religiously and inspired me when I was 14 I think, but I have lost their page (they had a main yautja oc named Lion if I remember correctly). They did most of the heavy lifting when it came to motivating me to keep up with the fandom, and I had the name 4lien since then exactly because I was still deep in my predator phase when I created my ig account account hah.

Then I absolutley fell in love with @/isei-bleeds 's style and characterization of yautjas and how much thought could go into developing a character of the species.

@/crispy-ghee also, of course has amaaazing style and storytelling as well and since now I have finally played Mass Effect, I am enjoying their AU all over again.

They all helped me notice how to stylize a yautja's face especially, because they are so hyperdetailed that it can get overwhelming when one has never drawn them.

There's many more but these I'd say were/are the ones I'd check regularly.

Pretty sure it’s canon the females are bigger anyway? Also! Your rendering of Yautja skin is really beautiful. How on earth did you manage that? I tried when I drew a Yautja but couldn’t find anything that suited

Hell yeah then.

Oh mmh, it usually depends on how rought the skin is.

With it's smoother scales, like for the arboreal yautjas, I use rought brushes for the patterns maybe but the shading is typically, well, smooth.

I only highlight scales were the light hits more, I don't paint all of them individually, you can just give the illusion with shadows and lights ^^

For more scaly and crocodilian skins I'd say, look at references and once you have chosen a direction for the light source, see which parts create shadows and lights. No need to draw the whole scale everytime ^^

Rimlights and highlights are your best friends to show texture on skin haha

Oh and also, looking at yautjas themselves of course, is great. In the older movies they were often wet and glossy so every highlight was accentuated. Even figures can be handy to see how the skin looks with different lighting.

If you want a more technical answer, I have posted a somewhat tutorial a while ago. Dunno if it can help a bit more.

It's true that we still don't really have one universal canon to work with so everyone can take liberties, but I just heavly prefer the idea that they are indeed the dominant sex in the species.

Sure, you don't need to be physically bigger to be dominant, but isn't it fun? Especially considering I don't know many media where the females are bigger in sci-fi and fantasy, unless they are non sentient or animal like.

Their biology is a whole other mess to tackle, but again, basing assumptions on what we know, these guys are mostly made of muscle mass, and have evolved for millenia to do one specific thing: to hunt.

I think it's appropriate that they would have a body equipped for heavy physical activity and that their standards of attractivness would be based on that.

Plus we've seen how Dek was treated purely because he was short.

If yautja females lacked the beef of the males, I think they wouldn't be as respected, again judging by their very practical standards.

And tbh I've seen plenty of the "males are stronger but the females are smarter" yes, alright, but what if they were also buff as hell uh?

But anyway, of course, I'm always open to more headcanons ^^

I always feel a bit repetitive on some of the things I include in my art, so I try to challenge myself as much as I can with angles and colors.

Just know that most of my drawings are fueled by pure and utter craving because I physically cannot go for more than a wek without doing something.

So I'm very happy you like it ^^
