TL;DR - This post is bullshit, and people should be allowed to cope with their issues through venting.
Along with this, the vast majority of people I’ve seen in the traumacore “community” are traumatized and have BPD, ASPD, NPD, and Scizophrenia. Sure, it seems disturbing to see Hello Kitty or a picture of a bedroom paired with bright red letters communicating how someone feels ruined, but it isn’t harming anyone.
It can also be somewhat helpful for people looking for support- trauma, delusions, and hallucinations (among other things) can be extremely terrifying for people who’ve never experienced those things! Traumacore (or what it literally is: venting) can help individuals learn that they aren’t alone, it isn’t their fault, and they don’t have to harm themselves or others because of their inner pain and frustrations.
Yes, some people use this to romanticize and fetishize trauma, but the ‘aesthetic’ is not to blame. People have always romanticized and fetishized mental illnesses/disorders; Traumatized 14 year olds posting pictures of broken dolls, abandoned churches, lace tablecloths, muddy teddy bears, and porcelain lambs aren’t harming anyone.
Core can mean a multitude of things, such as:
The usually inedible central part of some fruits (ex. pineapple or pear).
The central part of a heavenly body (ex. the Earth or Sun).
The central or most important part of something.
In relation to a prefix such as trauma, kid, dirt, soft, angel, etc., it simply means that the aesthetic is centered (core means center, remember that) around that prefix/things associated with it.
So, no, there isn’t inherent romanticization or fetishization. The suffix ’-core’ when relating to an aesthetic is only used to inform people of the contents of said aesthetic. Kidcore? Anything relating to childhood. Dirtcore? Anything relating to dirt and the Earth.
When social media enables people to share their thoughts, there will ALWAYS be someone trying to get a message across however they can.
