Created design system & guideline pages.
Changed Mockups to “Campaign Collateral”.
Project Showcase Example
provided by my lecturer :)
They have a very creative and sweet feature for the logos that creates unique and original iconography. They have a massive range of cat and dog motifs now that create personality for each different format.
The mockups have consistent background shades of grey that coincide with the brand identity and designs system. The mockups are also none the same, while they show similar things none are the same template or design.
One thing I don’t really like is that they primarily use the grey shade, but on the website and the mockups at the bottom they change to black. They had a very soft feeling because of the grey and white with no harsh colours, but then added black which suddenly changes that. It also doesn’t quite match the posters which seem to all be grey and white. This could be the editing/filters on the mockups that makes it look faded, or maybe I’m missing something, but that stood out to me.
Week 12: Notes
SUBMISSION DUE - 5PM Thursday, WE501, Digital & Physical formats.Â
Digital - Canvas: PDF of Zine, & PDF of Project Document.
Physical - WE501: Printed Zine, & Printed Document.
Don’t procrastinate, this kind of work can not be done on the last day/night. Always attend classes for your own benefit or you will miss out on valuable and necessary information or feedback. If you are struggling, review the canvas weeks & presentations.
From this course, you should have hopefully learnt how to:
Understand & make meaning
Understand the requirements, objectives and formats
Identify findings related to the topic
Showcase a design system that responds and connects to the topic.

Discuss and reflect on the typography and decisions like why it was selected. Show that the choice has got thought and consideration behind it.Â
Showcase the font & experimentation with it on Tumblr?
Discuss the design principles - What did you use on the campaign, how did you use it? (In the zine I hardly used any square and cornered shapes, but rather had organic and natural unperfect shapes)

Printed Zine
This is an older version of the zine & poster that has had minor changes applied, but its the most recent printed zine. From this I could see the green needed to be brightened, and some other small details like typography and layout. The logo on the poster has also been changed since this version, and the header on the front cover.
WIP - Project Document
Playing around with assets and colour in the document. Text is placeholder and drafts. The mockups look a lot better with matching backgrounds. I’m not sure that the photography of the dog matches the campaign, however I decided to use it because finding a collar mockup has been a struggle to find good ones, and this one matches the bowl mockups, which has also been a struggle to find good ones. The blankets & beds are not the materials I would prefer, but they match each other in style and represent the idea. Personally, I would go for a thicker or fluffier blanket to make it more appealing, and rather than a leather bed, I would use a similar material to the blanket that promotes warmth and comfort. Although people are buying these most likely for their dogs, they still look for qualities that appeal to them rather than the dog itself. I’m not sure what a dog would like but I know people would rather buy a blanket that keeps them warm and is comfortable. I’m not sure about leather, but personally I think it would wear & tear quicker.
New Dog Bowl, Blanket, & Bed Mockups
These mockups of the dog bowls match my collar designs because of the dog. I want to change the background hues and brightness though to make my design stand out more, and to match the more digital mockups like the bed & blankets. It was quite lucky that I found a free dog bed mockup. They don’t quite match the rest of the mockups yet and the design itself could be placed on the bed more realistically, but its a start. I’m also not sure how I feel about the leather bed, I was hoping for something softer to match the blankets material almost, but I am unable to change the texture on the mockup nicely.
New Collar Mockups
I will take these into photoshop and edit out the watermarks and the background colours to match each other. The background colour is undecided but I might go with a simple creamy brown. A lighter background will make the dark brown of my designs stand out more. The designs themselves are more contrasting than before. I made the lines thicker on the iconography, and added alternating colours which better represents the campaign.
Poster & Zine
The basically completed and finalised 8-fold poster zine. Only minor changes will be applied to this design now, after having the final proofread and check completed. The poster design is simple and clean. It creates a slight mystery and allows the viewer to fill in the gaps of the motif. The text has been reduced to a simple description and question. The logo at the bottom has been made a dark grey to match with the colour branding and allow easier readability. The zine has updated the green shade to a brighter one and had minor changes like title positions and weights changed. I also removed the numbers on the pawprints for the bullet points. I prefer them as bullet points instead of numbers because having numbers creates a sense of order, like you should do number 1 first, but actually my aim is for them to do something, no matter how big or small, just do something. The numbers also made it a bit busier, without them it feels calmer to the eye.
Testing brighter green
Removing black from my original shade of green has created a brighter colour, however, I am having issues with the Cymk & Rgb settings now. While the brightest green looks great, it is a rgb colour and probably wont be able to print accurately. Since this document has to be printed, I have tried to create a bright green in a spot colour for cmyk, but the brightest I can get it is only slighter lighter than the original. The only other way for it to get lighter that I tried was using more white, and yellow, but then it starts to look like a yellow green rather than the nice bright green I am going for. I will still be using this new colour because it is a nicer shade and does still brighten the page a bit.Â
This colour doesn’t work the greatest on the poster though because it starts to get lost in the orange background. While it is fine for the paw to get a bit lost, if I used the colour for any text it would be very hard to read.

Fixed designs based on feedback.
Small refinements to the logo colour on the poster. The title and subheading wordcounts have been reduce on the poster and front cover for the zine. The “dogs in foster care” statistic title has been positioned to line up with the paragraph opposite it. These small changes create a more appealing design, and guide the viewers eye to the correct places in the desired order.
New Intro Spread
This design creates more balance in the design and leads the viewers eyes to the important text. Previously the jagged pawprint took all the focus and kept it away from the text. This design has more breathing room and feels more original because of the added texture to the lines.
Week 12: Feedback
Zine, Poster & Mockups.
The green logo on the poster is being lost in the orange background.
Reduce the amount of words in the header & sub header to “Wanna be a dog’s bestfriend? & “Our dogs went through Covid too”
Move the bone graphic title to match the grid for paragraph.
Fix the mockups to match each other and pick a more suitable background colour.
Reduce the front cover text.
Use Fleur Green?
Use a more contrasting design & colour combination for the collar mockups.
Pick 1 blanket design mockup.
Find less digital mockups for collars if possible.
SDL:
Apply the feedback.
Work on the project document.
Finalise the zine & poster designs.
Update tumblr blog w progress & process.
Get someone to proofread and check.
Almost Final Poster
The new poster was printed out. I already got some small feedback when someone noticed my typo and spacing errors. The d in “bestfriend” touches the g from “dog”, a very silly mistake that I didn’t notice, and the extra f in “affected”. Small changes to fix on the poster but still very important. Before the final poster and zine are printed, I will have to send it to another person to check for typos and small errors like these. I get too caught up in the design I don’t notice those small things anymore because I’ve been looking at it too long. This design though feels a lot better and easier on the eyes. The lines from the scribble dog was too distracting and chaotic before. While the body copy & typography layouts still need a bit of work, this design is most likely to be my final poster.
8-fold Poster Spreads.
Some changes made after feedback was making the headers regular not italic. Changing the text bubbles to be more organic rather than geometric. Making the logo in the last page green to match. Adjusting the front cover because it wasn’t quite working before, as well as the intro pages. Adding a bit more text.
I also adjusted the header titles and tweaked a few smaller things.
Something about the intro page still doesn’t sit quite right to me. I’m not sure if its still too busy or if its the paragraph placement, but there’s something that bugs me about that layout. I am almost complete, its basically just small refinements left to change now, and finalizing the Poster & Zine.
The front & back cover were also supposed to have the icons aligned on the back edge of the booklet. So the icons should be on the left side of the page, however I think the design is better this way because it balances itself out. The text sits more on the left top corner, and the icons in the bottom right. If I went with my original idea the right side would be very empty and the design would be too much on the left side.

Mockups
Blanket & Collar
These are the 2 most important two products of the many ideas I had, so I wanted to start with them in case I don’t get time to make more.
I chose a blanket and a collar because it encourages a warm and happy feeling. The collars can be purchased when adopting a dog or fostering dogs. It is associated with finding a home. The blankets is to encourage treating your dogs well by giving them a blanket or cuddling with them under the blanket. It warms you up and ensures comfort.
For the rolled collar I attempted to add a texture on top to make it feel more like an actual collar would, but I think the material isn’t’ quite accurate for a collar, and the seams are not realistic on the angles of the collar.
I also created a mockup of Instagram posts. If I needed a digital format as well as my physical posters and products, Instagram is the way I would go because of its popularity with Gen Z & Y.
