Greetings and welcome to my blog. If you were looking for my original pinned post about why I'm not boycotting The Secrets of Dumbledore, it can be found here. This new pinned post has become necessary so that I can lay down a few rules.
1. The Golden Rule is to treat others as you wish to be treated. I'm a firm believer in that rule. I do not tolerate bullies. There's no "three strikes and you're out" here. Any disrespectful messages, comments, reblogs, or asks towards myself or anyone here gets you an instant report and block. Everyone is welcome here and is to be respected. This is a safe space.
2. This is an Eddie Redmayne fan blog. I support him and I support his work. If you don't support either of those, then I suggest you keep scrolling because this is not the blog for you.
3. I am a fan and supporter of the Fantastic Beasts franchise. Supporting an author's work does NOT go hand-in-hand with supporting an author's personal views. I shouldn't have to spell out which views I'm referring to here. I do NOT agree with the author's personal views. If any this bothers you, then again I suggest you keep scrolling because this is not the blog for you.
4. My ask-box is always open, and anonymous asks are allowed. My only rules for that are that you stay respectful and keep your messages Eddie-related. My DMs are also always open and you can trust me to keep your messages confidential. If you need someone to talk to for any reason, even non-Eddie related reasons, please do not hesitate to reach out and message me privately. Again, all I ask is that you be respectful.
I don't like having to implement rules on here, but some people cannot behave themselves.
TL;DR: Be kind and be respectful, or just keep scrolling. If you can't do those things, get blocked and reported.
Peacock's hit spy series is officially launching on another mission next year.
Based on the 1971 political thriller novel of the same name by Frederick Forsyth, which was also previously adapted into a film in 1973, The Day of the Jackal follows a ruthless British assassin known as "The Jackal" (Eddie Redmayne) in a cat-and-mouse chase with an MI6 officer (Lashana Lynch) investigating him. Though there's only one book about The Jackal from Forsyth, The Day of the Jackal season 1's ending made some significant departures from the novel to leave the door open for season 2 and beyond.
The series launched to impressive acclaim in late 2024, currently holding a "Certified Fresh" 85% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. The Day of the Jackal was also nominated for several awards for its freshman outing, including an Emmy for Outstanding Cinematography for a Series (One Hour), two Actor Awards from SAG-AFTRA, two Golden Globes, two Critics Choice Awards, and more.
The cast of The Day of the Jackal season 1 was led by Eddie Redmayne as the titular elusive assassin, whose real name was later revealed as Alexander Duggan, with No Time to Die star Lashana Lynch portraying the intelligence officer working to capture him. The ensemble also included Úrsula Corberó, Chukwudi Iwuji, Khalid Abdalla, Lia Williams, Eleanor Matsuura, Damian Richardson, Charles Dance, Nick Blood, Kate Dickie, and Gerard Kearns, among others.
In addition to the return of Redmayne, Peacock has gradually revealed some of the newcomers joining the assassin for season 2's cast of characters. Matt Bomer was recently confirmed to star in a recurring role as a new villain in The Day of the Jackal season 2, though details about his character are still being kept under wraps. Furthermore, I May Destroy You's Weruche Opia and Halo's Pablo Schreiber will appear in recurring roles that have yet to be disclosed.
Plot details for the upcoming episodes are also being kept under wraps with The Day of the Jackal season 2 production already underway in Budapest. Filming kicked off earlier this spring, though the timeline for completion has yet to be revealed. Season 1 began filming in June 2023 and extended through the fall before the series premiered in November 2024; if season 2 follows that timeline, then production will likely conclude by the end of this summer.
As such, The Day of the Jackal season 2 isn't expected to premiere until summer 2027 at the earliest, though a fall release could be in the cards to repeat season 1's strategy.
I keep seeing random images of Eddie popping up from on-set filming the second season of The Day of the Jackal, and his hair and coat are giving me Newt vibes. 🤣🥰
Production transformed Rákóczi Square into a Moldovan election setting, complete with fictional campaign posters.
Eddie Redmayne filming in Budapest
Oscar-winning Eddie Redmayne is back in Budapest and currently shooting season 2 of The Day of the Jackal. The actor was spotted in Budapest’s District VIII at the Csiga Cafe, renamed “Baroneasa” for the purposes of the shoot.

The actor was seen shooting interior scenes for most of the day, hence bystanders rarely got a glimpse of him.

The presence of the actor was not the only unexpected sight for bystanders. Campaign posters with Romanian candidates’ names were placed everywhere at Rákóczi Square. The posters on display contain messages in Romanian urging people to vote for certain candidates.

The props might not be so misleading if Hungary was not in the last stages of a genuine election campaign of its own. Parliamentary elections will be taking place on April 12, therefore the fictional politician names were quite distracting next to the real-life Hungarian candidates.

Judging by street signs, names, and the transformation that occurred at the back entrance of the Rákóczi metro station, season 2 of The Day of the Jackal will take viewers to Chisinau, Moldova, during the election campaign season.
The Day of the Jackal follows a highly elusive professional assassin, known as the Jackal, who carries out high-profile hits across Europe while constantly evading intelligence agencies determined to track him down. The series blends political intrigue with fast-paced espionage, unfolding across multiple international locations.

Budapest has played a key role in the production: several scenes from the first season were also filmed in the Hungarian capital.

Who is the mole? How did the Jackal survive? Eddie Redmayne's much-watched spy series needs to answer these burning questions.

“The Day of the Jackal” Season 2 is currently in production, and it has a whole lot of questions to answer.
Questions such as ‘who is the mole?’ and ‘how did the Jackal survive?’ hang over the Eddie Redmayne spy drama, with fans eagerly awaiting how the show will go about answering them.
Until “The Day of the Jackal” Season 2 release, which is yet to have a date set, educated theories and speculation are the next best alternatives.
In any case, there might be a pretty major tonal shift. That's because Ronan Bennett stepped down as head writer to pursue "other commitments,” as reported by Variety in September 2025. He's replaced by screenwriter David Harrower (“Lockerbie: A Search for Truth”).
Hopefully the second season doesn't leave these plot threads hanging for too long.
What is ‘The Day of the Jackal’ Season 2 Story?
“The Jackal” Season 2 sees the return of international assassination the Jackal as he takes out contract killings, outruns MI6, and protects his highly at-risk family.
Before he left, Bennett told Variety it would be "another very lavish" thriller, adding there were "lots of elements from the novel that we didn't utilise in season 1.”
Who’s the Mole in ‘The Day of the Jackal’?
One of the biggest questions in “The Day of the Jackal" is ‘who is the mole?’ Season 2 should provide an answer.
One theory is the mole, who helps the Jackal stay ahead of raids and surveillance operations by international intelligence agencies, is a high-level handler inside the task force itself.
Rather than motivated by altruism, maybe the mole is helping the Jackal to ensure their own survival.
How Did the Jackal Survive in ‘The Day of the Jackal’?
At the end of “The Day of the Jackal,” the Jackal is seemingly deceased following a shooting. While paramedics pronounce him dead, his body is never properly shown, giving the writers ample leeway to explain his escape.
The likely explanation is the Jackal was wearing special ballistic armor capable of taking the hit. While no doubt injured, he also could have received an emergency extraction by a mysterious new character yet to be revealed.
Who Crashed Into the Jackal?
Immediately after the shooting, the Jackal gets into a car crash. The driver of the car who careened into him probably isn't a random civillian. It's too targeted a hit.
Instead, signs point to it being orchestrated. But not in the way you might think. The Jackal might have planned the collision, using it as a diversion to aid his escape. In any case, the first episode of Season 2 should enlighten us.
Does Nuria Know Her Brother’s Fate?
Nuria is told her brother was killed during a classified military operation overseas. While she has reason to doubt the official story, she doesn't yet know the truth.
Season 2 is predicted to be the moment Nuria discovers her brother was taken out by his own unit. This could prompt a switch in her loyalty.
What is the Jackal's Mission?
Season 2’s arc for the Jackal will likely be about uncovering the conspiracy hinted at in Season 1 involving his unit being wiped out during a covert mission.
While labeled an enemy ambush, the truth is far more complex. The Jackal will need to investigate this to clear as same, all while trying to find his family and outrun MI6.
Where to Watch ‘The Day of the Jackal’
The ten-episode first season of "‘"The Day of the Jackal" streams on Peacock in the US, and can be watched with a Peacock Premium subscription. It is also available for purchase on platforms like Fandango at Home.
Yes, you can find parts of this DVD extra on Youtube, in varying levels of quality. I have it for you here, from my undisclosed source, in downloadable form. I only have 6 segments, and unfortunately the intro isn't one of them.

The Day of the Jackal Season 2 has been hit with an unexpected creative shake-up as Ronan Bennett departs Eddie Redmayne's spy series.
The Day of the Jackal came out of nowhere last year as one of the most surprising success stories of 2024. The spy thriller series starring Eddie Redmayne and Lashana Lynch was renewed for Season 2, which is expected to begin filming in the coming months. However, news broke this morning that showrunner and creator Ronan Bennett is stepping back as the primary writer of the show and passing off duties to David Harrower (Lockerbie: A Search for Truth). Bennett will remain involved as an executive producer, though, and his departure is strictly due to scheduling conflicts.
The Day of the Jackal was mostly well-liked by critics and audiences, enough for it to earn scores of 85% from critics and 76% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. The Day of the Jackal Season 1 also famously deviated from the source material, which is the famous novel by Frederick Forsyth. During the same report detailing the turnover in The Day of the Jackal Season 2, Carnival Films (which produces the show) boss Gareth Neame acknowledged the changes, and confirmed that Season 2 will steer more closely to the plot of the original novel and show.
The Day of the Jackal star Eddie Redmayne is best known for his role in Les Misérables, and also for playing Newt in the Harry Potter spin-off, The Fantastic Beasts. Lashana Lynch made her MCU debut in Captain Marvel, and she returned as a Multiversal variant in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness. Chukwudi Iwuji, who has worked under James Gunn, both in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and Peacemaker Season 1, also has a role in The Day of the Jackal.
When Is ‘Day of the Jackal’ Season 2 Coming Out?
There was no information in the new report about The Day of the Jackal Season 2 about when Peacock plans to air the follow-up season. However, now that we know that filming plans to begin before the end of this year, it’s possible that the show could return before the end of 2026. Unfortunately, it’s also a reality that The Day of the Jackal Season 2 won’t arrive until early in 2027, if production runs deep into 2026. The show also aired episodes on NBC following its highly successful run on Peacock.
Stay tuned to Collider for more updates on The Day of the Jackal Season 2 and watch the first season on Peacock.
