Bringing it back to my hubbies
So I know the issues with AI. But, I'll be damned if I let anyone make me feel bad for bringing my imagination to life.
So here's the "brothers" Lin, Usnavi and Lee with their daemons.
And here's me and my roleplay family.
Oh and then here's Bucky and Lee bonding
And then whatever this is
(That's Daisy (stegosaurus dog), Ming (Siamese cat) and Moonbeam (unicorn) - my childhood imaginary friends)
And also: The Rebels.
So yeah.
Bucky shakes his head and looks at me. I smile back at him.
“So? Your verdict, James?”
He smirks a little. “It wasn’t as….weird as I thought it would be.” He rubs his hand over his face. “My mind still feels like it’s full of cotton wool, though.”
I nod, propping my chin in my hands. “Give it a couple of days.”
His lips twitch and he licks at them. “The biggest thing will be if I sleep free of nightmares.”
I nod again. “Of course.” I’m optimistic but I know Bucky won’t believe that it’s fully worked until he’s tested that. I reach over to take hold of his hands. “I’m here.”
Bucky ducks his head down, the shyness of the gesture in complete contrast to the power I know is in that big body of his. I squeeze his hands and smile more.
“Come on. Lee’s got dinner ready.”
Bucky let’s out a sigh and stands, heading for the kitchen. I flick off the living room light and follow him.
The Time Circle - Rey’s Dreams
Rey’s dreams finally continued on last night, after Sylvie appears….

*Chuck steps on the bus and sees me on my laptop, singing quietly with a song* hey, that guy bothering you at all?
*I peek up and frown* no. He just wanted to know what song I was gonna sing. Wanna hear it?
*Chuck grins* nah, keep me in suspense. *He sits with me* he seems... interested in you. Like the look Pips gets when he knows he has to wait to have you.
*I blink* well, he and I share interests. Like musicals and traveling and shave ice.
*Chuck* you like shave ice? Wait until we get to Japan.
*I laugh* or when we head back stateside for that thing at MTV, I can go to the Bronx and find one there.
*Chuck* did he tell you you could find one there?
*I smile* he did. Even offered to show me around. I mean, you guys didn't spend long there last time and I kinda wouldn't mind a whirlwind tour with a local.
*Chuck* I suppose. I would still be careful. *He glances at the screen* the song you picked is one of his?
*I shrug* I like it. And I haven't listened to a lot of Latin music since I stopped being in a jazz band.
*Chuck* way to suck up to a guy you hardly know.
*I frown* who is willing to give me time out of his show to do something I get to watch my boyfriend do almost every night!
*Chuck* so it is about wanting to be onstage... that's all you're here for, not Pips' dick.
*I blink hard, murmuring* that's not fair and you know it. I love him. And just because I said no to you doesn't mean you get to assume I'm being ambitious. I know that you're the real fast track to fame around here.
*Chuck rubs his face* yeah, I'm sorry. It's been a day. *He smiles slightly* sing the song for me?
*I groan* Tabernaq, Comeau...not again.
*Chuck pouts* oh come on! At least no one can hear you this time but me! Please…?
*I sigh and sing My Heart Will Go On as dramatically as possible*

Lee and Lyra Vignette
Lee was finishing up tidying the kitchen when he paused, realising he couldn’t hear Lyra. He set down the dish cloth and headed for the living room where she had promised to stay. No sign of her.
Balto wasn’t there, but then when Marly was at work he would disappear for hours and only return when she did. Lee noticed that the window was ajar and felt a sharp edge of panic.
“Lyra!”
Hester was close at his heels, trying to calm him down as he went for the window, pushing it open and leaning out.
“Lee...Lee!”
He waved a hand at his daemon and looked upwards, blinking. “Lyra?!”
A small furry face popped over the edge of the roof. “We’re up here, Lee.”
Lee scowled at his daughter’s daemon. Then craned his neck to try and see where she was.
“Lyra, darling...your mother is going to have all our hides...” He pulled himself out the window and gingerly climbed onto the roof. Lyra was sitting cross legged on a flat part of the roof, smiling. Her expression faltered though when she saw the furrowing of Lee’s brow.
“Dad...I’m alright up here.” She pointed towards the horizon. “There’s a rainbow.”
Lee crawled over to her and sat next to her, heaving a sigh. “At least tell me you’re going to be out here, little love.”
Lyra gave an apologetic smile and lay a hand on his knee. “I am sorry, Dad.”
He hugged her close, squeezing her. “It’s alright, darling. I get it...you like the outdoors as much as I do.”
Lyra leaned her head on his shoulder. “Do you have to tell Mum about this?”
Lee’s eyes narrowed a little and then he shook his head. “No, not for now. This can be our thing, okay? As long as you promise to ask me first.”
Lyra nodded. “I promise.”
Lee smiled and turned his gaze to the horizon.
*In a hotel room in Paris, Pips is writing on the bed. I'm laying on my side, just in the bedsheet* so what is this song gonna be like?
*Pips hums* well, I kinda want it to be something for when you can't be on the road with me. Time zones will be annoying and we'll miss each other a lot.
*I nod* yeah, so…*I smirk* Come What May?
*He wrinkles his nose* I hate to say it but kinda?
*I giggle* I knew showing you that movie on the way here would be a good influence on you.
*Pips sighs* you mean a bad influence. Pierre is gonna give me shit for it.
*I smirk* like he doesn't have a soft side…
*Pips* sometimes…*he looks at me* that night in Edinburgh…
*I sit up* Pips…
*He stops me* I just want you to be honest with me. I really care about you and I want to know you're not gonna run around on me.
*I sigh and nod* nothing happened between Lin and I. I promise it was just a fascination and I'm past it.
*Pips nods* okay. I'll drop it. I deleted his number from my phone. I just didn't want the urge to call him and pick a fight. *I blink but nod. He rubs his neck* Chuck might still have it but I think it's because he likes how he raps.
*I smirk* or he thinks he's hot.
*Pips snorts and shakes his head* not his type. Anyway, help me out with this. I have the chorus but how to start it.
*I smile* well if you're in Europe and I'm in America, I guess we'd have to check what time it is.
*Pips hums and gets his guitar, strumming a chord and singing* what time is it where you are? *He looks at me* and you'd say?
*I sing softly* I miss you more than anything…*I'm not just thinking about him. My thoughts stray to Lin, wishing I could talk to him somehow*
*Pips smiles* And back at home you feel so far…
Later
*Chuck is on his phone, texting. I sidle up next to him* hey Chuck?
*Chuck* nope…
*I blink* sorry?
*He looks at me* you and Pips have been working on your duet and I bet Lin came up. And now you wanna talk to him.
*I sigh* at least you don't call me out in front of Pips.
*Chuck looks at me* Nissa, I like having you around. You help out, your telepathy helps keep the crowds down at the merch table and you know how to calm Pips down with a touch. You're kind of a big part of why this tour is running as smoothly as it is. And you're wise beyond your years on shit the guys, by which I mean David and Pips, can be kinda clueless about. So I'm not about to jeopardize things by letting you talk to some guy you're obsessed with after knowing for a total of two days.
*I bite my lip and whisper* Chuck, I miss him. I don't know why I do so much but I just wish I'd had more time to say goodbye.
*Chuck looks at me then starts scrolling through his messages* this is for your own good, and the good of the band…*he finds the message Lin sent and deletes it* if he tries to contact me again, I'm blocking the number. *He looks at me, not unkindly* you need to forget about him. If shit doesn't pan out with Pips, maybe one day you can find him. But help Pips now. He needs someone like you.
*I nod slightly*
That night
*I stand on the balcony while Pips is asleep, eyes closed. My magic wells up inside me as I concentrate on the band, the FLS crew and Lin. I swallow hard and trace my palm across the air in front of me like wiping a chalkboard. I bite my lip and turn the power on myself, every moment I had with Lin and the FLS crew. My power turns to a blinding light behind my eyes and the memory is gone. I blink and wonder why I'm on the balcony. I turn and go back inside, closing the door behind me*

THE CHICAGO INCIDENT
As told by Pips Bouvier to Lin Miranda
"Okay, so I love Chicago. Been there a bunch before. Love that city. And Nissa had been once before we met so when I told her we had a stop there, she was thrilled. We'd have a day before the show to hang so she immediately claimed the day as hers and insisted I do what she wanted. As if I'd have it any other way.
So, we get up, grab breakfast from the hotel and go dawdle in the park across from the Hilton on Michigan until the Field Museum opened. We go in and there's a limited exhibit of stuff from Pompeii. Nissa was in the Roman army when Vesuvius blew so she wanted to see it. We went in while a tour guide was showing some elderly folks around.
We hung close and Nissa would correct his times and Latin translations. The guy got steamed when she told him about the sign he pointed out as a bakery was actually a brothel of pregnant women. Romans had their kinks too.
After that, we headed across to the whole exhibit on evolution. They have taxidermy of a ton of different animals. There was a school group there. The kids loved how the animals would move. The teachers were...less thrilled. Especially when the narwhals tried to joust with each other.
Before they could report us to security, she took me to the Egyptian collection. She pointed out mummies that she knew from her two lives in the BCs. The guy doing the elderly tour was there and she corrected him on the hieroglyphics. They got in an argument over the workers of the pyramids (she drew up the blueprints for them and yeah they were slaves, not volunteers like he suggested) and I had to hold her so she didn't deck him.
I suggested the dinosaurs next. I thought, she can't possibly do something to the fossils...I was wrong. You remember those singing fish on a wall mount? She made the fossilized heads start singing. If you ever wanted to see a T Rex singing A Boy Named Sue, go to the Field Museum with her.
Thankfully, nothing else happened going through the civilizations section. Though she did perform a hakka in front of a spirit house from New Zealand. The security guard gave her high marks for authenticity. She did spend almost two years in New Zealand with the Lord of the Rings crew. Ask her about her cameo in the Shire.
We had lunch in the museum cafe then walked it off going to the aquarium.
Now, I didn't know it, but Nissa loves octopuses. And she would like one as a pet one day. So her first order of business, find the octopus. When we did, I swear it understood English and could hear through glass. And then it started coming through the glass. It was an amorous type, too. Tried to wrap itself all over my torso. Then Nissa wanted to have me hide it under my coat. A kid saw a tentacle go up around my ass and yelled "MOM, THAT MAN IS HOLDING AN OCTOPUS!!" Both the octopus and Nissa seemed very disappointed when she had to send it back into it's tank.
Next, penguins. Who decided to revere Nissa as a God. Following her as far as their enclosure could manage then squawking in unison as we walked away. She giggled and told me they were saying "release us". I cringe to think what they would have done if she had.
Never, I mean, *never* let Nissa near dolphins. They are too smart and she's got no filter. The trainers were reduced to tears, *to tears*, by what the dolphins told Nissa about them. Then a male tried to convince her to be his new mate by um...presenting the goods... it's the only time I was jealous of a dolphin.
Finally, blissfully, we finished up with the movie theater in the basement of the aquarium. Back row, no one else near us. I may have tried to get frisky, maybe because of the dolphin. So we started making out, my hands start moving south. We're trying to be quiet even though the movie is loud. But I moaned and Nissa lost it, cackling like the Wicked Witch of the West. She laughed so much she had to leave the theater.
When she composed herself for longer than thirty seconds, she told me my moan had timed up with a humpback whale, and it was the same note. She lost it because my moan sounded like a whale.
In hindsight, it made me feel better about being jealous of the dolphin…"
Lin rubbed at his face as he was trying to think of a few more lines on the notepad laying on the concrete next to him. The rest of the FLS crew had long gone, after ribbing him for not wanting to join them at whatever club Chris had found. He needed to finish one of the bigger ensemble numbers for In The Heights but he was stuck on how to begin it. And he found that the quiet of the backstage area of the venue they were performing at was conducive to allowing his creative juices to flow. It was the perfect space to prance around while trying lines out loud. Especially considering the song he was attempting to pen was meant to have a freestyle vibe to it.
Still, he wasn’t doing any of the that...instead, he was laying on the floor headphones jammed into his ears, listening to Rent trying to kick start his brain.
“That’s not going to get Heights written, man.”
Lin blinked pulling an earbud out, craning his neck to try and see who had just spoken. There was not a person in sight. He shook his head, dragging a hand over his face. Working too hard...maybe I should go find the guys...
“Don’t...you’ve almost got it.” The voice again.
Lin scowled, sitting up, yanking both buds out. “Who the fuck said that?”
There was a beat of silence, then, “You. Well, you from a few years in the future.”
Lin shook his head, thinking maybe he shouldn’t have so much sugar in his coffee... “What?”
“You should be able to...oh...sorry...”
Lin blinked feeling a rude shock when he realised he was staring at his mirror image...well, not quite. The man before him was older, there were strands of grey in his neatly trimmed beard. And he was wearing a different tee...
But, it was...
“I...you...” Lin stammered then stood and backed up against the piano behind him.
The other him just looked back at him, calm, assured. “I’m you...in approximately...a decade from now.”
“A...decade?” That’s ten years in the future, Lin-Man...that’s insane...
“Not so insane.”
Lin’s brow furrowed. “I didn’t say that out loud...”
“You don’t need to. I’m you, after all.” Future-Lin smiled.
Lin shifted to sit on the piano stool. “Okay...I could ask how the Hell is this even possible, but, I’m guessing that’s not something I’m going to understand...so, what are you even doing here?”
Future-Lin tilted his head, the corners of his mouth turning up. “I beg to differ, I’m sure you’d understand. But, we can skip that. Why am I here? Well, actually...because you’re about to meet someone in the near future and I need to make sure that I remember that it happened.” His eyes narrowed slightly. “Even, though you won’t.”
Lin pressed both his hands over his eyes, shaking his head. “That...makes no sense.” He peered at FL through his fingers. “Wouldn’t that be some kind of time travel paradox? I mean...if I forget...won’t that mean you will?”
FL shook his head. “Don’t try to understand it. It is what it is.”
“So...who do I meet?”
FL laughed. “I can’t tell you that.”
Lin rolled his eyes. “Of course.” He looked away just as his phone buzzed in his pocket. He answered it whilst keeping one eye on his future self. “Hey, CJack? Yeah...I’m still here. No...it’s not coming.” He shook his head. “I’ll see you back at the hotel...” He ended the call and looked back at his future self. “So...you just going to hang around, or what?”
FL blinked then gave a wry smile. “I hadn’t thought that far...I haven’t travelled this far back before.”
“No?”
“No, I saw later past self of ours...in like 2016...well, another future self for you. But, I didn’t talk to us then...” FL chuckled. “Though...I think he did see me...judging by the crazed look he threw me...”
“Hey, it wasn’t a crazed look.”
Lin and FL both jumped and turned to see another version of themselves materialise in front of them. He was still dressed in costume, black doublet and hose, with a lot of frills.
FL blinked. “Hamilton, I assume.”
HamLin nodded. “And, I wasn’t actually shocked to see you...”
“Hamilton?” Lin asked, voice tight. He wasn’t sure he could ever get his head around what he was experiencing. A stiff drink sounded good right about now.
FL frowned a little at HamLin. “He hasn’t even read...”
“Sorry...I came looking for you specifically...didn’t realise it would send me back into the past.” He glanced at Lin who was just staring at him. “You didn’t see me...” Then he looked back at FL. “She show, yet?”
FL shook his head. “No. Go...I’ll come find you...go on...I’ll make sure he doesn’t remember seeing you.”
“Has who shown, yet?” Lin asked.
FL growled. “Ham...go...”
HamLin rolled his eyes and vanished. FL turned his gaze back to Lin. “Sorry, I gotta do this...” He leaned over and waved a hand across his face. Lin blinked then sighed.
“What were we talking about?”
FL gave another wry smile. “What I’ll be doing while I wait for this to work out...”
“Oh, right. We can’t have two of us wandering around in the same city.” Lin tilted his head.
FL grinned. “I’ll blend in. You won’t know I’m here.”
Lin rolled his eyes. “You’re me. And I don’t do blending in.”
FL laughed. “Touché. Well, I’ll try my best.”
Lin shook his head then paused before grabbing his gear. “By the way...no hints as to who I’m going to meet? Or when? Or where?”
FL laughed again, wagging a finger at him. “No hints. Could be any time, any place.”
Lin groaned. “Fine...Guess we both suffer then.”
Future-Lin just grinned, a knowing look in his dark eyes. “Oh...I’m not suffering here.”
Luchar como el infierno
(To fight like hell...)
"Go, Nissa...I’ll be seeing you…" As I sat there, feeling my split lip heal so fast it stung almost as much as Pips' fist had, I knew this was a mess I'd have to fix. I hated to make Nissa choose this right now but it had to happen. Then I could erase the memory.
She looked at me in disbelief, eyes already tearing up. She was as crazy about me as I knew my past self was about her. It made my heart ache. I wanted her to be with me, then as she was now. But I had work to do. A biography to read, a musical to write, my destiny to craft. None of that could happen if she was already beside me, as much as I hated to admit it.
"Lin? What are you saying?" The first tears slid down her cheek and I bit my newly healed lip, wiping them away with my thumb.
"Fate, amor. We are meant to be together, just not yet." I stroke her cheek, nuzzling gently. "We'll find each other. I know it as certain as I know the sun is gonna rise in the morning." She sniffled and shook her head.
"I can't…" I kissed her softly, nuzzling more as I pulled back.
"I'm not asking you to go back to him. Find a way without him. And me, for now. I promise, I'll be waiting and writing the words that will find their way to you." She whimpered, shaking her head.
"Lin, please. I can't do this alone." Her tears were flowing freely down her face. I could feel my resolve crumbling. I wanted to say to hell with it all and give in. But I could feel her tugging at me from the present, how upset she would be that I didn't let her try.
"Nissa, you can do it. I have faith in you." I took her hand, kissing it softly. "I will find my way back to you when the time is right. Until then, fight for your happiness. Don't let him get his way."
"Um, I'm standing right here, asshole." I don't look up at Pips. I keep my eyes on Nissa. She bites her lip, doubt, sadness, longing all swirled in her eyes. I smiled softly.
"No one will ever tell you how your life should go. Not him," my eyes flicked up to him then I smiled more "Not God, not anyone. Only you. And that's how we'll find each other. I promise."
"This is all very touching but can we get moving, ange? The guy clearly is done." I glared at him, thinking he was making her mind for her. Nissa sniffed again and stood. She looked down at me. I got to my feet.
I saw a small pulse of power, familiar to me from when she separated me from Lee's mind. I smiled slowly, watching it blossom quickly as I saw anger grow in her, an odd golden light taking over her sweet bourbon eyes. She spun with liquid grace and her fist connected with his chest, power knocking him back ten feet. He groaned out a curse in French, looking up at her. I smirked as her wings shimmered into view, pure white and beautiful, fully unfurled. Pips must have seen it as well because his eyes widened and he scuttled back a little more.
"Ángel, you underestimate yourself." She turned and looked at me, the wings laying against her shoulders. I raised my eyebrows and grinned. "There's that power you were looking for. You can do this, amor. Fight." Nissa blinked then grinned.
"You meddle too much, witch." I blinked. The recognition in her eyes, not just knowing who I was but when I was from. I laughed slightly.
"Could say the same for you, amor. You've been hiding in there this whole time?" Nissa smirked.
"You confuse me, Lin Manuel. You awoken me." She looked thoughtful. "Nissa wouldn't have had this happen and I wouldn't be here now without your help." She gestured to her wings. "I think I'll be going up a rank in a year from this point. Then my wings will look the way you know them." I blinked and my mouth made an 'o'.
"Nisiel, hello then." She inclined her head, smiling.
"Hello. So, I'm going to let her come back. She won't recall what just happened. If you were hoping to get away cleanly, I'd do it now. I'll take care of Bouvier's mind as well." I faltered a moment.
"And me?"
"You've done it before. I have no doubt you can easily make it work another time." I bit my lip. I didn't want it to be this way, not able to say goodbye to her. "Lin Manuel, this is all I can offer you. You know you'll see her again. Fate will find it's way." I swallowed hard, tears in my eyes now.
"I don't have much choice, do I?" She shook her head. "Very well. I'll wipe my past self." I stepped closer. "Just one more thing?" She smirked.
"Always one more thing...hold on." The golden light faded and she blinked at me. I cupped her face in my hands and kissed her slowly. She trembled, kissing back firmly. As I pulled back, I swallowed hard.
"I don't have a lot of time. I love you. And I'm going to find you again. I swear. Fight until I get there." Nissa blinked, tears coming again. My own were falling as well. She seemed to figure it out and nodded.
"I'm ready. I'll fight. I can't wait to see you again." I smiled softly.
"It's only a matter of time." She nodded, a sad smile on her lips. I hoped that line was the seed I needed to plant to make her recognize me when the time came. I took her hand, kissing it softly. "Hasta entonces, amor, luchas como el infierno." She bit her lip as the golden light overcame her eyes again. It seemed to overwhelm her because she fainted into my arms. I looked at Pips. The golden light was fading from his eyes as well. I eased Nissa to the ground, stroking her cheek.
A smooth voice wound through my mind, "I'd go now. Find your past self, do what needs doing." I sighed and vanished to the hotel room, the copy of Heights I gave her in my hands. My past self was spelled asleep. I sighed again, placing it in the bag and going to his side. I wiped him quickly, trying not to linger over the memories. Singing with her in baggage claim, the first kiss, staring at a clear sky with the galaxy on view then making love, all gone in a moment.
My heart ached for my past self. I'm sure I would have loved her input on Hamilton. See her enthusiasm as I realized a line, watch her bop along to The Schuyler Sisters, hear her singing That Would Be Enough. Because I know that's what she would do. But I had to go it alone, it's the way it happened. I didn't have to like it but it had to happen.
As I returned to my time, I worried that messing with this was going to make one or both of us frustrated because we could've been together sooner. I stood in the door to the bedroom, thoughts swirling when I heard Nissa singing. I focused and blinked, recognizing the song.
"Look at where we are, look at where we started, the fact that we're alive is a miracle…" I headed to the sound. Nissa was in the kitchen, singing Non Stop. Her back was to me as she was washing dishes. I listened to her, smiling softly.
Her playlist was on shuffle because it went to Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story. She just listened until it got to Eliza's part. She sang softly as she dried the dishes.
Turning to put them away, she caught my eyes and smiled as she kept singing. I winked as she did. She smiled more, nearing the end as she put the last of the dishes away.
"And when my time is up, have I done enough, will they tell our story." Nissa walked to me as she sang the line. I saw her eyes tearing up. She took my hand, whispering the next words, "Oh I can't wait to see you again, it's only a matter of time." A tear rolled down her cheek. I quickly brushed it away and brought her hand to my lips. A soft platinum shimmered around us, as it did the night of our handfasting. She sighed and smiled slightly. "Hasta entonces, amor, luchas como el infierno." I smiled softly.
"Luchaste como el infierno, mi amor. And here we are, finally." She wrapped her arms around my neck and kissed me softly.
"Yeah, I fought like hell. And now here we are." I smiled, holding her close.
"I told you, it's only a matter of time."

Sunrise
Nissa awoke sore. Not opening her eyes, she remembered laying on a couch will do that. And the couch was moving. Opening her eyes, she saw Lin asleep, the other, more pleasant, reason she had been sore. Despite her build, neither had fallen off the couch after their reunion last night. She got up carefully, not wanting Lin to wake. She found her way to the bathroom then made some shorts and a tank top appear on her.
It occurred to her then that she still remembered him, their encounters. This made her happiest of all. Stepping back out, she snooped around the apartment. There was a balcony of sorts and the sun wasn't up yet. She would be within ear shot if he woke up. She opened the window and stepped out. Her phone materialized in her hand and she checked for messages. Nothing. The goodbye had stuck this time. Good. She loved Tom, but she couldn't keep up. He had so much scrutiny. Peeking back at Lin, Nissa decided to focus on what she had now.
Her memory told her about his other musical, In The Heights, so she looked it up. Scrolling through the song titles she stopped on Sunrise. She hit play. Then she went back and listened again. Twice. The sun started to brighten the sky more.
"Sigue andando el camino por toda su vida…" Lin awoke to someone singing that line. He reached for Nissa but she wasn't there. He sat up fast, panicking. Had she lost her memory already and left? "I don't know...what to do...now that I've found you...what will he say…" Relief washed over Lin as he recognized her voice, smiling and following the sound.
"Qué dirá?" He sang softly, peeking his head out. Nissa looked over and smiled softly, hitting pause.
"Good morning. I couldn't sleep anymore." Lin nodded and smiled back.
"G'morning, and I missed holding you." He climbed out and sat with her, wrapping an arm around her. She leaned into him, head on his shoulder. "Finally listening to Heights or did you listen before this?"
"Sadly, this is my first time. And I chose the song because of the time." He nodded.
"It's a good song. CJack sang it with his lady Mandy. It was when the relationship cemented for their characters in the show." Nissa smiled fondly.
"I bet he nailed it."
"He sure did. So did she. Think you know it enough to try with me? Come back in, I'll play piano." Nissa shook her head.
"Out here? With the sunrise?" Lin smiled. It was the small things she thought of that made him enjoy her company. From what FL had told him, she did those sorts of things for him during their day a lot. He always lamented how he felt he couldn't keep up with her thoughtfulness. Lin wanted to change that. But FL had just laughed and shook his head.
"She's not looking for you to return the favor. She does it because she wants to, because it eases the way." Lin wondered at that. Sure his parents were a good example for a good relationship and CJack was always telling stories of doing the same for his wife. Lin wanted to do it, too. So, he stayed with Nissa as she rewound the track.
"Can you sing Nina's part? I feel like I'm Benny here, not knowing as much." Lin chuckled and nodded. She hit play and Lin waited for his cue.
"Are you ready to try again?"
"I think I'm ready."
The two of them sang together. Lin emphasized the words with actions, holding her close and kissing her. Nissa allowed it, smiling.
As the song ended, the sun had risen enough to be seen. Nissa sighed, staying snuggled into Lin. He nuzzled her hair.
"Wanna go get some breakfast?"
"Sounds good. You can finally give me that tour of Washington Heights." He grinned.
"Yeah, I have the day off so I have all the time today. Vamos, amor. Let's get this day going!" Nissa laughed softly.
"Okay, okay." As she took his hand to stand up, her anxiety kicked up as she worried when she would lose her memory of him. Lin sensed it and pulled her close again.
"We made it to the sunrise, amor. Let's do everything we can and not think about that now." He kissed her softly. "Let me show you my home. Someday it'll be yours, too." Nissa blinked but smiled. She was certain of his words.
"It already is."

The Kids
“So, where we meeting the others, Raph?” Lyra held on tight to the older boy’s hand.
Raphael smiled, squeezing her hand. “A garden that we all like to gather where no one can find us...well, except the parents...obviously.”
Lyra grinned. “Sounds amazing.” She started bouncing on the balls of her feet then paused again. “What’re we going to do when we get there?”
Raphael chuckled. “We’re going to have fun...and just get to be ourselves.”
Lyra tilted her head, sensing a small bit of resentment in his tone. But, she didn’t press, just swung his hand and smiled up at him. “Can’t wait.”
Raphael laughed softly as they came to a long stretch of stone covered in vines. “Have you read The Secret Garden?”
Lyra shook her head. “Does it have dragons in it?”
Raphael chuckled as he lead her to a gate that was hidden under a swathe of ferns. He pushed it aside and nudged the gate open, it squeaking on its hinges.
“No, but it does have the sound of joy and happiness.”
Lyra glanced up at him. “And that makes you happy?”
The older boy smiled as he stepped into the garden but before he could answer the two of them were swamped by the other kids.
“Lyra! Lyra! Where’s Laimon!”
Lyra had to hold up her hands and her daemon, Laimon, sprang from her shoulder and into one of the trees, hiding from them.
Raphael pushed them away, laughing. The only one who wasn’t crowding them was Hope who stood back from the group. Lyra saw this and made a beeline for the older girl.
“Hope?”
Hope crouched down to her level and smiled softly. “Hey, Lyra...” Hope’s dark eyes were almost the same colour as Lyra’s and the way her hair fell was similar. Yet, she had the characteristic Bouvier smile.
Lyra reached out to touch her face. “Hi...you’re Mum’s eldest?”
Hope nodded, smiling more. “Yes. And Raph, and I, get to babysit this motley crew.”
Daniel called out, “I resent that, Hope! I’m not a baby!”
Raphael walked passed his brother and pushed him lightly. “You’re one of the youngest.”
“Yeah? Well, you’re really fifteen...”
Raphael scoffed, “That’s not an insult since you’re actually twelve.”
Nashita and Avery, EP’s two other children shook their heads. “That doesn’t even matter. What matters is that we can do this.” Avery sprang up and turned invisible.
Lyra giggled, clapping her hands. Laimon climbed down to sit on her head, watching intently. Raphael smiled and sat on the grass making a picnic mat with assorted foods and drink appear.
“Wow,” Laimon squeaked. “Look at all that food.”
Hope came to sit next to Lyra. “Gotta have a banquet to feed this lot. Jimmy and Mickey can put away about half of it themselves.” She pointed to a stocky and a very tall lanky pair who were across the other side of the garden wrestling with each other. “Jimmy’s dad isn’t around much these days, but he sticks by us. Mickey’s dad is an angel...like Auntie Nissa and his half-sister is usually with him.”
Lyra nodded. “Serena, right? She’s Auntie Nissa’s daughter.”
Hope smiled. “Yes.” She nodded toward a younger girl who was sitting with dark glasses on. “That’s Althea, Thea...she’s Jimmy’s older sister.”
Lyra tilted her head then lowered her voice. “Is she...blind?”
Thea glanced over toward Lyra and smiled. “I can still see....but, not with my eyes.” She held up a hand and placed it over her heart. “It’s my one power.”
Lyra nodded then looked over toward Nashita who was glancing around for her brother. “EP’s other kids?”
Hope nodded. “Yes. They’re a good pair.”
Raphael cleared his throat at that moment and said, “She knows everyone now...let’s do something fun.”
Lyra grinned. “Like what?”
Hope leaned back on her hands a mischievous sparkle in her eyes. “Let’s see who can impress Raphael the most.”
“Or make him laugh,” Daniel added.
Lyra grinned. “With our powers?”
“Any which way you want, this garden is protected from prying eyes, so we’re free to be completely ourselves,” Hope said in explanation.
Lyra looked over to Avery. “He can turn invisible.”
Raphael chuckles. “That’s easy. You could probably do that too, since Mom can.”
Lyra tilted her head. “How?”
Hope rolled her eyes. “Not sure Uncle Lee would like us teaching her how to do that.”
Raphael scoffed, “She’d figure it out on her own anyway.”
Lyra shook her head. “I’d rather know how to age up deliberately...”
Hope frowned. “Your dad definitely won’t like that. And you promised Mom you wouldn’t.”
Lyra sighed, shaking her head. “There has to be a way I can do it here, just temporarily.”
Avery flopped down next to her and Laimon crept over to examine him. “Just shape shift.”
“That’s not real, though,” Nashita pointed out. “And there is a way to age up temporarily. I mean, ageing up is an external thing anyway.... Raph and Hope are still technically fifteen and sixteen respectively.”
“No need to remind us....”
“Just telling it like it is, bro.”
Raphael shook his head then looked at Laimon. “We haven’t seen what you can do.”
Laimon laughed in a squeak and quick as a flash shifted from the ermine to an arctic fox. He dashed across the grass then took a running leap, shifting into a moth as he hit the air flying over the kids and landing in Lyra’s hair.
Hope laughed in delight and Raphael shook his head, smiling.
“Impressive.”
Avery tilted his head. “What I don’t get is the whole thing about him being your soul.”
Lyra shrugged. “I can’t really explain it myself...the scholars at Oxford studied stuff like that.”
Avery blinked. “In the other Oxford? That’s cool.”
Raphael scowled. “She was born in this world.”
His younger brother looked at him and said, “Yes, but she is the incarnation of Lee’s Lyra from his world. And she remembers everything from that time.”
Lyra nodded and smiled disarmingly at the older boy. “That’s why I have a daemon.”
Raphael nodded then a thought came to him. “Why does Mom have a daemon?”
Lyra stood up and dusted off her shorts. “I don’t know. You’d have to ask her.”
She tilted her head then closed her eyes, concentrating. Her aura began to shimmer. The kids leaned forward to watch as she started to age up, her hair growing longer, her features altering, but only a little.
The light decreased and she did a small spin. “What do you think?”
Raphael chuckled. “Very good.”
“You look like Laura from Logan.”
Lyra blinked. “What’s that, Avery?”
“Oh, a film...one that I haven’t watched because it’s rated R for adult.”
Lyra scrunched her nose. “Adult doesn’t start with R.”
Raphael laughed and said. “R means restricted. Not for children.”
“Oh. Right.” Lyra sat down again. “I like being a kid.” She held up her arms. “And now I feel I can keep up with you lot here.”
Hope smiled, hugging her gently. “You’d be able to do that at any age, little love. You’re one of us, after all.” The older girl watched as joy shone from Lyra’s eyes. “You belong here. And, we’re glad Mom had you.”
Raphael blinked and looked away, hiding the fact that he was getting emotional. Lyra noticed though and got up to go to him.
“Raph...?”
He looked down at her, smiling softly. “I’m okay, Lyra...just...after everything she’s been through, Mom deserves the joy you’ve brought into her life. You and your dad.”
Lyra hugged him around the waist; he squeezed her back gently. The other kids settled on the rug and got stuck into the food. Lyra grinned and joined them, Raphael and Hope on either side of her.
The hours passed pleasantly and the sounds of their laughter and joy filled the garden as they enjoyed each other’s company. And Lyra revelled in it...

Lyra in the secret garden 😍
( @nissameta1782 )
Lee worked in the kitchen of Lin's apartment. It was quiet, well past midnight in New York City. It was midday back at home. But Lyra was asleep on the couch, snuggled with Nissa, who seemed to sleep when he last checked.
He had brought Lyra with him to keep Nissa company. When they arrived, she had her hair wild around her face, glasses gone from her face and stomping and spinning in a fashion that reminded him of how witches fought. What really shocked him was when tiny gusts of wind or flames came from her fists. Lyra, quite the opposite, was thrilled and asked Nissa to teach her. Nissa wisely showed her only how to do the air gusts. Then they danced. Lee could tell how good a mother she is and will be to his soon to be niece.
Lyra wasn't a fool. She could tell her aunt was hurting. So she kept doing something different to distract Nissa. And Nissa did not say no. Finally, she had Nissa read to her. The two of them got through three chapters of The Magician's Nephew before they both dozed off.
Nissa had cooked in the hopes Lin would be home and hungry. A beef stew that made Lee want to eat it but he managed to resist. The lady could cook. He'd have to ask her what she used. He leaned against the counter, sighing softly.
"Where the fuck are you, Lin?"

Of pies and soul links
When music wasn't filling the lake house, the sound of chopping and slapping of dough did. Lin would peek over at his soulmate as she worked at the kitchen counter. The golden apples they had picked were shining in the shaft of light coming through the window. He wasn't quite sure how cooking the apples made them more effective. But Nissa had insisted on pie. He stretched to take a break and walked over to see her progress.
"So, why pie? Eating an apple outright can't do the same thing?" He reached out to snag a slice of apple, popping it in his mouth. The flavor of the apple was...unlike any he'd tasted. Sweet but not sugary, slight tartness, and a crisp snap of the flesh, even though they had sat on the tree who knows how long and were picked a few hours ago. He hummed as he felt an odd sensation, a tiny surge of power. "How is that…?" Nissa smiled.
"How I understand the tree, it draws power from the ground it's planted in to give the apples their regenerative qualities. Like I said, in mortals, one bite will heal. If they eat a whole apple, immortality for a few decades. Asgardians traditionally partake every century." Lin nodded.
"So with a pie, you buy yourself how long?"
"With a hand pie, at least a century." Lin nodded again. "And I chose hand pies because the skin on a golden apple is hard on the digestive system. I'm going to freeze some for emergencies as well. I can use fire magic to cook them rapidly."
Lin smiled and kissed her cheek. Their link told him she was putting on a brave face at the moment, showing confidence she didn't entirely have. He placed a hand on her back, she flinched, thinking to where her wings once were. He pulled his hand back, biting his lip. Nissa sighed.
"No, I'm sorry. It was a shock. I knew Michael would blink first but…"
"You didn't think he'd go that far. He must have been very angry."
"No, he was scared, is scared. The last time such a thing happened was The Battle. He probably thought it was Lucifer originally. He might still think Luci is involved. Nephillim are an untapped army in some ways. Michael isn't doing Heaven any favors." Her thoughts stray to memories of hunting down Nephillim centuries ago. Lin shuddered at the image. "It was punishment to the angels who betrayed. Their offspring tracked down and killed in front of them. Michael enjoyed that punishment almost as much as beating them." She showed Lin what had happened to Azael. He shook his head.
"And Michael is supposed to be the righteous one." Nissa sighed as she started mixing some spices into the apples.
"I have a long list of things that prove otherwise." She pulled out a slice and tasted the spice level on it. It needed something...as she realized it in her mind, Lin was handing it to her, dried orange peel. She kissed him softly then added a couple large pinches to the mixture. She mixed it again and tasted. Perfect. Lin took the bowl away so she could focus on the dough. Grabbing it from the fridge, she floured the counter and started rolling the dough.
"So, is the pomegranate tree enchanted?"
"Only in the sense that it's a cutting from the tree Persephone grows in her garden on Mount Olympus."
"Not the Underworld?" Nissa smiled slightly.
"Things don't grow in the Underworld, amor. She keeps a garden for when she has to be away from Hades. Keeps her mind off missing him. She's where I got the idea for my garden…" She trailed off, remembering the destruction she had felt when they ran from Heaven. It made Lin remember something.
"You yelled something as we went to New Asgard. What was it? It was all such a rush." Nissa snorted.
"It was Enochian, old angelic language. I told Michael he breeds in the mouths of goats." Lin blinked.
"You called him a goat fucker?" They both burst out laughing at the same time. Lin shook his head, "The balls to say such a thing…"
"Yeah, it probably cost me the garden and house. Jesus is going to be upset with Michael. He helped build that house." Lin swallowed, upset that so much was taken from her in a short time. He felt Nissa take his hand. Her sadness was there but it was overshadowed by a solid resolve. "I don't care, Lin. Those were things. Did I love them? Yes, but they can be replaced." She stroked his cheek. "You cannot be replaced, amor. You matter more than any house or garden. As long as I have you, nothing else matters." He smiled and kissed her gently. The resolve strengthened. She smiled and pulled back, cutting the dough for the pies. Lin watched her for a moment.
"Can I help?" The thought of a large spoon and the bowl of apple mixture crossed his mind and he smirked, getting the items.
"One good spoonful for every other square, por favor." Lin did as instructed. Nissa covered the filled squares with dough and crimped the edges with a fork. Then she cut two slits in each one. Lin stepped back as she finished. A baking sheet and parchment paper entered his mind. He retrieved them and lined the sheet with the parchment. Nissa smiled as she placed the pies on the sheet. "This link is certainly helpful."
"It makes me a good sous chef." Nissa laughed.
"I'll have you trained in no time." Lin chuckled at that, but also liked the idea because Nissa wouldn't have to do everything all the time. "Equals, I know. And after this…" Lin frowned.
"Immortality isn't going to make you my equal. Love already did that, amor. But I know you want to be with me as long as we can manage. I'm all for that." Nissa nodded and kissed him again.
"These are ready for baking." Lin nodded, noting there were six. "One for each of us. You're not going say no to trying one even if it won't affect you. I'll cook the other four about halfway then freeze them for the emergency stock. The rest of the apples can go to New Asgard. Loki told me the time was growing close for some of them to replenish so this will help the stock they already have." Lin chuckled.
"Already thinking of your fellow Asgardians." Nissa smiled and placed the sheet in the oven. Lin looked to the box, which disappeared in a plume of green fire. He smirked. "Loki knows where we are?"
"I told you, he's nosy. He likes knowing everything. He won't betray our location." Lin nodded, feeling her confidence in Loki's trustworthiness. He had to admit, he was flashy but seemed okay. Nissa laughed. "Yeah, he behaved himself today. No kisses, you noticed. He knows now." Lin nodded, content that the man managed to keep his hands off her.
While the pies cooked, Lin resumed working on his music while Nissa cleaned up the kitchen. The smell of the pies started to fill the area about twenty minutes later. It made his mouth water. Not that Nissa ever made or chose a bad dish in the time he knew her. She knew tastes well. He hummed when she opened the oven and took out the four emergency pies.
"It'll be another 20 or so for ours, amor. It does smell great, I know." Lin tried to suppress his anticipation and concentrate on his work. Nissa went about wrapping the emergencies for the freezer. Lin could feel the magic she used to cool the pies enough to handle and wrap.
It took her just long enough to check on their pies. He heard her pull the sheet out. Getting up, he cooled the pies himself. Nissa laughed. Lin smirked.
"Babe, the smell has been driving me crazy. I don't want to wait." She nodded, giggling. He scooped up a hand pie and broke it apart. The smell was incredible, cinnamon, apple, the orange peel, and a couple other things Nissa added. He took a bite and groaned. The surge of power along with the flavor was heady. "Ay Dios mio, Mamacita." He had to resist the urge to wolf it down. He heard Nissa eating and peeked up. She was licking her fingers, pie already finished. He said to hell with it and finished his off quickly. He felt the boost in power for her and smiled.
Her aura had gone back to the color he had seen in Edinburgh, the lovely soft blue with gold sparkles shot throughout. Now after the pie, the sparkles were bigger now, almost like polka dots, and they were growing to take over the blue again. Nissa smiled as they finally did.
"As the years pass, you'll be able to tell when I should eat another pie. The blue will start to come back." Lin smiled.
"I remember how beautiful I thought you looked back in Scotland, your aura around you in the night outside that venue. The gold is lovely but I did miss the blue." Nissa tilted her head and the gold subsided again to sparkles. Lin smiled and kissed her. "There's the girl I fell in love with."
"And I'm staying right here, for as long as we live."

The Kids - Part Two (same day)
“So, Lyra... tell me something?” Hope lay on one side, making a daisy chain, linking the stems of the small flowers together as she talked with the newest member of the family.
Lyra tilted her head to the side, eyebrows lifting. “What do you want to know?”
Hope rolled over, smiling slightly. “You have memories of your other life...” She paused, realising how blunt that sounded. “Sorry, I know some of it wasn’t pleasant.”
Lyra shook her head as she leaned forward and plucked a blade of grass, then started to fold it over. Hope let the thought stand, watching the younger girl with an almost tender expression on her face.
Lyra pulled at the strand of grass as Raphael came to join them. The rest of the kids were running around, playing a game of catch with an invisible ball. Lyra did watch them for a while until Hope joined her on the rug.
Lyra took a deep breath before speaking. “The worst part was losing Roger...and leaving Will.” She shook her head. “But, at least Will is still out there, somewhere.” She lifted her gaze to the older girl, tears welling up. “Roger...” Lyra couldn’t continue as they fell, running tracks down her cheeks.
Hope shifted so she could wrap her arms around Lyra’s now trembling body. “I’m sorry...I shouldn’t have brought it up.”
Lyra gave a sad laugh, composing herself. “It’s alright...I need to talk about it.” She frowned. “I saw his ghost when Lee...Dad, and Will’s dad saved us from that dead world.”
Raphael leaned forward to listen closely.
Lyra smiled at him a little. “That was the last time, except in my dreams.” She blinked, brushing the back of a hand across her eyes. “Most of them are happy dreams...memories of when we were at Oxford.”
Raphael nodded, slowly. “Still, it must hurt.”
Lyra swallowed hard. “He was my best friend.” She bit her bottom lip. “We went though so much...what with the Gobblers...and then...” She halted. Avery flopped down to join them at that moment.
“Hey, tell us about the armoured bear.”
Lyra blinked. “Oh? Iorek Byrnison?” She smiled, remembering. “He was fearsome...but such a good friend in the end.” She rubbed at her face. “Dad and he were partners for a while. He’s king of the Svalbard Bears. I helped him regain his throne.”
“Wow. You’re cool,” Avery grinned. Then held out the palm of his hand. “But, are you this cool?” A small blue flame flared in the centre of his palm.
Lyra stared then bounced up and down. “Can you show me how to do that?”
Hope frowned and opened her mouth to protest, but Raphael stopped her, shaking his head. “Let him. She might need to know...” His tone was dark.
Hope’s brow furrowed at the thought that the younger girl would need to know anything like it; at the hint that she might be in trouble again. But, she said nothing more.
Avery smiled at Lyra and cupped his palms in front of him. “You need to draw the power from your core and visualise the flame in your mind.”
Lyra inhaled slowly, closing her eyes for a moment, holding her hands in front of her. Then with a soft exhale a small puff of silver flame ignited in her cupped palms. She gasped, which caused the flame to go out.
“You see that?”
“Very good,” Avery said, encouragingly. “Try again. Longer this time.”
As Lyra made several more attempts, each one more successful than the previous one, Hope leaned over to Raphael, pointing out the silver flame.
“I see it,” he murmured. “Wonder what that means...”
Hope’s brow furrowed in thought. “Well, Mum has powers...and so does Lee. Though, he seems to have not unlocked his full potential. And her grandfather is Taliesin pen Byrdd...so, it’s not all that surprising if you think about it.” She braced her palms on her hands. “She’s going to be more powerful than both of them, though...our Lyra Silvertongue.”
Raphael chuckled. “She’s the sister we’ve all been waiting for, eh?”
Hope nodded, as she felt a stirring in the air. She turned her head as did Raphael when Travis appeared with Serena.
“Serena,” Hope smiled, getting up to greet her. The two girls hugged hard. Serena didn’t often come to the garden as she was usually in Heaven with her father, attending to angelic duties.
“How goes it, Hope?”
Hope nodded to Lyra. “Watching our little sis.”
Serena turned to watch the younger girl who was making light steps across the grass as she made tiny silver flames dance in her hands. Travis came to stand next to his daughter, head tilted.
“So, this is the little enigma...?”
Hope came to stand at his other side. “Lyra. Mum’s pride and joy.”
Travis looked at her, eyes serious. “You are all her pride and joy, Hope.”
Raphael scoffed. “Except me. I’m the biggest disappointment.”
Serena scrunched her nose prettily. “Don’t say that, Rapha. She loves you.”
“Oh, I know...but EP is my father.”
Serena scowled at him. “And, she still loves him.”
Raphael sighed, nudging her gently. “I’m just kidding, Reenie.”
Travis added, “You’re the child she needed, when EP was at his worse. Don’t ever forget that.” He returned his gaze to Lyra who was crouching in the grass now, Avery next to her, their attention drawn to a single patch of dirt where she was forming a small ball of flame. He cleared his throat. The two of them paused, and glanced up to see the angel.
Lyra stood, dusting her palms on her dress. “Travis?”
He smiled, nodding. “You going to tell your Mum that Avery taught you how to do that?”
She flushed and shook her head. “Not yet. You won’t tell her?”
Travis chuckled. “What happens in this garden, stays in this garden.” He crossed his arms. “Though, you should still tell her at some point.”
Serena smiled, “Knowing her, she’ll probably figure it out anyway.”
Lyra gave a little frown. “Would she be mad?”
Travis shook his head. “Maybe disappointed she couldn’t teach you...but probably better she doesn’t, at least until Lee is more comfortable with it all.”
Serena nodded sagely. “His upbringing has made him unaware of his power, right?”
Travis nodded. “They’ll figure it out though.” He smiled at Lyra. “Your father thinks he’s a simple man. But, he’s a lot more complex than he knows.”
Lyra straightened and lifted her chin. “Lee...Dad doesn’t need powers to prove his self to me.”
“I know, Lyra. I know.” Travis didn’t voice the fact that it might be necessary in the future. Now was not the time for that. “You and your mum have enough to cover the three of you.” He chuckled lightly, then glanced at the sky noting that it was beginning to darken and stars were beginning to dot the expanse. “Raphael? Shouldn’t you be getting Lyra home?”
Raphael blinked. “Crap...Lyra...we’d better go.”
Travis laughed low as the eldest Bouvier boy encouraged Lyra to say goodbye to everyone.
Lyra went around to each one promising to see them soon, lingering with Avery as she thanked him for teaching her. Then she glanced at Raphael as she aged back down to three years, before taking his hand.
“Okay, I’m ready.”
Raphael smiled softly and squeezing her hand gently, vanished them back home.
