1. What are your expectations for Wanderland 2014?
I hope there will be lots of crazy people like last time we played in Manila. Everyone was super super cool there. I wanna see them again
2. What was your initial reaction to the amazing reception and success that your debut album ‘In A Million Years’ got?
I was pleased. It’s cool to know people are listening and liking the music.
3. What was your favorite part of your South African tour last September?
Going on safaris and seeing all the big cats. The coolest one was a black leopard.
4. Do you guys have a favorite performance? Where was it and why is it a favorite?
No particular performance but the whole South East Asia tour was just the absolute best. Went to the most amazing places and got time to explore most of them. Although i was just thinking the other day how much i wanted to explore more of Manila since we only had about 24 crazy hours to spend there. So I’m looking forward to having more fun in Manilla.
5. What was your impression about the Philippines when you first came here last year?
First impressions are indescribable. We stayed in the seediest part of town, in the red light area, which was actually so good haha. The club we played at was so cool and had THE BEST food. I can’t wait to eat another pulled pork hot dog.
6. We heard that French band Phoenix is one of your musical influences, have you gotten the chance to meet them in person?
No chance to meet them yet but I got up on stage when they played in Brisbane. The crowd was pushing so hard at the front that I just popped out over the barrier and then sprinted on the stage.
7. What can fans expect for your upcoming second album?
Cooler songs. Most of the new stuff has more soul I think. As we have grown older I think we have gotten a better idea of what we think is cool.
8.You’ve been on a lot of tours in a short span of time, what are the important lessons you learned while on the road?
Important lessons. 1 – Clothes are easy to lose. 2 – Wifi is life. 3 – Asia is the best for touring
9. Speaking of your tours, how do you adjust to the different places that you visit?
Adjusting to different places isn’t really something we get to do. We only spend short times everywhere we go. I kind of like not being adjusted, being disconnected from a place allows you to analyse so many things. I love looking at the building and the plants when we land somewhere new. I find the differences in the small things the most fascinating.
10. What do you enjoy most about playing live and also do you have a particular song that you love to play live?
I love seeing everyone’s faces when they are smiling or singing along. I think ‘Weekend’ would have to be my favourite to perform. Because it is dynamic and I think it has the most soul. But we have been playing some new songs too which I prefer playing more, I’m looking forward to a time when everyone knows these new songs so they can sing along.
11. Who’s your celebrity dream date?
Julie Bishop.
12. Do you have any pre/post performance rituals?
Pre is usually a hi five and sacrificing a tour manager side stage. Post is usually just try get everybody to have a party.
13. What places in the Philippines would you like to visit if you get the chance?
I’m not so sure yet. I would love to see some islands, but I don’t think we are going to have the time to go for adventures on this next trip. We need some travel advice.
