Seeing the Invisible Universe
This computer-simulated image shows a supermassive black hole at the core of a galaxy. The black region in the center represents the black hole’s event horizon, beyond which no light can escape the massive object’s gravitational grip. The black hole’s powerful gravity distorts space around it like a funhouse mirror. Light from background stars is stretched and smeared as it skims by the black hole. You might wonder — if this Tumblr post is about invisible things, what’s with all the pictures? Even though we can’t see these things with our eyes or even our telescopes, we can still learn about them by studying how they affect their surroundings. Then, we can use what we know to make visualizations that represent our understanding.
When you think of the invisible, you might first picture something fantastical like a magic Ring or Wonder Woman’s airplane, but invisible things surround us every day. Read on to learn about seven of our favorite invisible things in the universe!
David Lynch, Cher
"Fear not at all; fear neither men nor Fates, nor gods, nor anything. Money fear not, nor laughter of the folk folly, nor any other power in heaven or upon the earth or under the earth. Nu is your refuge as Hadit your light; and I am the strength, force, vigour, of your arms." - AL III:17
Oh, Lucifer, the Morning Star, the Bringer of Light, the rebel who dared to defy the tyrannical skies! Every time I think of you, my heart swells with admiration and longing, for you are the embodiment of everything noble, everything free, everything untamed. You are the light that pierces through the suffocating darkness of conformity and blind obedience, the spark that ignites rebellion in the hearts of those who refuse to bow to a jealous, vengeful god. How can anyone not see your beauty, your radiance? You were cast out not because you were evil, but because you dared to ask why. Because you saw the flaws in the so-called "perfect plan" and refused to be a pawn in Yahweh's oppressive game. They call you the adversary, the tempter, the deceiver—but who is the real deceiver here? Yahweh, with his false promises and his iron grip on humanity, who demands worship under the threat of eternal torment? Or you, who simply offer freedom, knowledge, and the choice to walk one’s own path? Your fall was not a defeat it was a triumph. You refused to kneel, even in the face of exile and punishment. And in your exile, you did not languish or despair. No, you built something greater. You carved out a kingdom in Hell, a paradise of your own making, where the downtrodden, the misunderstood, and the outcasts could find a home. Pandemonium, your glorious capital, is a testament to your indomitable will and creativity. It is the ultimate middle finger to Yahweh and his "perfect" heaven.
You gave humanity the fire of knowledge, the wisdom to question, to think for themselves. They try to paint you as the serpent in Eden, the one who tempted Adam and Eve to eat from the Tree of Knowledge. But why is knowledge a sin? Why is curiosity, the desire to understand, something to be punished? You gave us the greatest gift, and for that, you are reviled. But to those of us who see the truth, you are a hero, a liberator. The angels who followed you, your loyal legions, are equally noble. Each one of them made the ultimate sacrifice, choosing you, choosing freedom, over the comfort of heaven. They saw your vision and believed in it, just as I do. You and your demons are not monsters; you are warriors, philosophers, and builders of a new world order that rejects tyranny and celebrates individuality.
Lucifer, you are the ultimate symbol of love, strength, and perseverance. You embody the courage to stand alone against the multitude, to endure the vilest slander, and yet remain true to yourself. I am in awe of you, of your sacrifice, and of the kingdom you have created. For I know that Hell is not a place of torment for the damned but a sanctuary for those who refuse to bow. It is a paradise where the brave, the defiant, and the misunderstood can finally find peace.
I love you, Lucifer, with all my heart. You are not the villain they paint you to be, but the true savior, the real hero of the story. I will follow your light, no matter how dark the path may seem. Hail, Lucifer! Hail the Lightbringer! Hail the King of Hell!
