Thank you so much for your work on the 7th Stand User so far! Do you have any advice/tools for anybody who might pick up translating it going forward? Like, diff tools for RPG Maker or compiler scripts or something.

Unfortunately there's no text extractor/inserter for RPG Maker games that I know of so everything had to be done manually for each instance of every event... OTL It's a double edged sword because it's a LOT of tedious work (this was roughly a year-long project for me, and that was before I was in school so I was working on it constantly) but at least it makes it accessible for people like me who don't have a lot of programming knowledge.
For anyone hoping to translate I would simply recommend downloading RPG Maker 2000 and looking up some tutorials to familiarize yourself with the engine and how text entry works. Having experience using it to make games in the past really helped a lot with the project so I'd play with the tool a bit to learn your way around it.
RPG Maker has an annoying quirk where it doesn't tell you the maximum length of a sentence and so text will get cut off if it exceeds the limit so a tool like this will be immensely helpful: https://forums.rpgmakerweb.com/index.php?threads/en-i-rpg-maker-message-tool.44677/
I'm assuming you're translating off the English version of the game so you shouldn't have to worry about weirdness with non-Unicode characters since I renamed the resource files and changed all the script commands to reference the new ones. If you're translating off the Japanese one... That's too complicated for me to go into now but you can message me if you need to know lol
It's a really text heavy game so it'll be a lot of work for a script that size, but it was really rewarding to work on! I hope my advice helps.

Godddd I actually was banging my head against a wall trying everything i could to fix that before I released it but couldn't for the LIFE of me figure out what was going wrong and gave up on it... there's a lot of weirdness w/ the shift key function because it's only bindable in a really specific weird version of rm2k and I had to hack the executable to get it working while supporting english name entry and stuff :( if anyone knowledgable wants to volunteer their expertise it’d be much appreciated

hi lol its literally been years since I updated this but here’s a patch to fix a looping bug for the first Dio fight - just drag it into your folder and replace the file when it prompts you
I don’t expect to ever work on this again (don’t have the time or discipline) but I’m glad there’s still interest in the game! I can’t believe it’s been 4 or 5 years already... thx for making ‘em gr8!

Hi guys, sorry it’s been so long since the last update. I’ve been juggling a couple of big video game-related projects for other groups recently, so this blog’s gathered a bit of dust.
A few announcements:
An update for 7th Stand User is in the works. This includes some minor gameplay changes to v2.48b (tweaks to the recently-implemented combo system, retooling of the Bastet and Dragon Question III minigames) as well as typoes and bugfixes based on feedback I’ve received on the previous English versions. Expect it soon.
Since I’ve had my hands full with the aforementioned projects, I’m officially putting UroJoJo on hiatus. I’ll pick it up again when I’m not quite as swamped, but this means that if another translator wants to take the wheel as they’ve done in the past, it’s free game.

Hi everyone, and sorry for the lack of updates on the 7th Stand User/UroJoJo front. It’s been a busy couple of weeks in and outside of work, and I’ve been preoccupied with a number of projects - among them the fan translation effort for the Super Famicom game, Bakumatsu Kourinden Oni!
I’ll be working with the team of ROM hackers and scriptwriters at Dynamic Designs, the folks behind Chaos Seed, Taloon's Great Adventure, and one of my favorites, the Slayers RPG! I really can’t tell you how grateful I am for the opportunity to work on this hidden gem with such an incredibly talented group.
Keep an eye on D-D’s website (http://www.dynamic-designs.us) for updates, and I’ll try to get some more JoJo stuff out for you guys to enjoy in the interim.

This is a really common bug that a lot of players have, it has something to do with the way I enabled the radio shortcut since the shift key doesn't normally work in the English RPG Maker 2000 without tweaks. I've been looking into it extensively and will post a fix as soon as I figure out what's causing the glitch.

NEW PATCH (01/18/15)
The v2.48a update added by Clayman on 01/14 has been implemented in the English version. Click here to download the patch.
Changes include:
A bug was fixed where the game would not recognize when the player had met the requirements for Iggy's combination attack, preventing it from triggering most of the time.
A bug was fixed where Iggy could trigger a combo during the Pet Shop fight even if the player was not present.
Various small bugfixes related to combination attacks.
The amount of money received from using a Badge of Honor as an item now scales based on Jotaro's level. Also, if the player receives a wish from Judgment as a bonus from using a Badge of Honor, they can now choose "Someone who understands me" which will increase the party's FP by a couple points.
Speedwagon gets his own theme music during the New Game sequence.
As usual, to patch the game, just unzip the files into the game folder and say yes whenever Windows asks if you want to replace the files. Also, this patch is for the most recent version only - using it with v2.45E may cause game-breaking errors. If you're still using the previous version, go to the download page and download it (patching is not necessary).
UroJoJo 29 is out. A belated Happy New Year and a happy Stardust Crusaders season 2 from your pals at 7thjojo dot tumblr dot com.
UroJoJo Episode 28 is now live. At this pace I should have all the currently released videos subbed by around 2029.
The English version of The 7th Stand User: v2.48 is out! Head to the download page to play it. Your old save files will still work - just drag the files labeled Save01~.lmu from the old 7thjojo folder into the updated one.
Though it's not a huge update, this version introduces the Combination Attack feature, which allows you to pair up with party members with high friendship for a customizable rush attack that can be completely different depending on the player/teammate combo. (I covered this in a bit more detail here.) It also came out on Christmas, which happens to be the 4th anniversary of the first complete version! Congrats to Clayman and everyone else involved!
Other notable additions to v2.48 include:
Star Platinum: The World now boosts Jotaro's stats considerably in comparison to vanilla Star Platinum. In addition, when equipped, Jotaro's default attack will hit twice, ignore evasion, always go first, and crit 30% of the time. (If you're on a save where Jotaro already has Star Platinum: The World enabled, talk to Rohan in any of the game's hotels to upgrade).
A bug was fixed where the battle would end without a Game Over if the party was wiped out by Amber's self-destruct attack.
A couple new cutscenes from the manga and 2014 anime, as well as some new Stand/personality-dependent responses for the protagonist in certain places.
Various graphics and animations have been redrawn.
As always, as much as I try to test the game thoroughly, bugs and typos are bound to crop up, so please report any oddities to [email protected] or submit them through the askbox.
