Duke Nukem Forever

Where do I start? First off. I love the Duke. I have loved the Duke since the early 90′s when I played 1&2 at a friends house, yes folks Duke 3D was not the first for me. Thought it may have not been the first one I played, Duke 3D was certainly the first game I had seen that made me stand up and say “Holy shit, video games”.

I was pretty young in 1996, when Duke 3D was released. I was in the 6th grade. Some may so WAY to young, I say never to young. It’s all about how you raise your children, let them no that the things they see on the screen are FAKE and not acceptable thing’s to be doing.

I remember Duke 3D being an obsession for many years, the only place I had access to it was at my friends home. Soon enough he came home with the Kill a Ton collection which gave us a lot more goodness to explore and shoot.

We are not here for Duke 3D though are we? Nope we are here for the game that was announced in 1997. Duke Nukem forever. First off, I am not going to blast this game. I actually love it. I am currently playing through it for a second time! I did not expect some technical marvel, or something that changed first person shooters for ever. What I did expect, was more Duke, and I got it. Though the humor no longer appeals to me, the shooting and blowing up of aliens still does, and this game does it well enough. It’s will be a permanent fixture in my game collection. Now if only the damn toys were not so expensive.

A date with a legend. Yes this is real, no I do not have it any longer. While attending a HUGE community yard sale this weekend, in the “Great” state of West Virginia, I found this buried under some rusty tools and several copies of NBA jam.

I do not collect NES games what so ever, not even this gem could get me into it. I let it go to someone who will make sure it gets in the hands of the right person. I also sold it WELL below what it was worth. I’d rather see this in the hands of someone who would love it, than charge a crazy amount for it.

As you can see, it was very dirty, and beat up. At the end of the day, it worked though! Hello and goodbye you once in a life time find.

The decline of gaming, for me.

All my life, I claimed “I will never grow tired of this”! In reference to my gaming hobby. Well, it turns out I have grown tired of it ladies and gentleman. Not the tired most of you probably think, but tired of it in my own way.

I have made a MAJOR change, I went back to Nintendo this year. When I say I “went back to Nintendo” I mean I dropped EVERYTHING else. No more sony, no more microsoft, none of it. Why you may ask? Because I’m tired of military shooters, I’m sick of 60 hour long RPG’s. I have NO time for this in my 30′s, and it was making me hate my favorite hobby! I was unable to keep up with other peoples skill, other peoples progress in MMORPGS and the like.

It just seems Nintendo offers more of what I want, GAMES. Not life simulators! I play games to escape everyday life, not to be reminded of all the war and death going on all around us. If I want call of duty, I’ll turn on CNN. Not to mention the couch coop!! Nintendo consoles normally offer WAY more couch coop than games for the other consoles.

I am in no way shape or form being a Fanboy, I will still play other consoles at friends homes. Just not in my own. I respect what every choice anyone makes as far as gaming goes, I will never try and push my pro Nintendo agenda on anyone.
