— let’s get one thing out of the way first: being the heir to a mafia family means to be constantly saddled with responsibilities.

— and this means that nero - much like how vincent was - isn’t as present for his daughter as much as he’d like. he doesn’t show it - he was born into this life, after all, and he can’t shirk his responsbilities even for his child. but it truly does bother him, and despite his sense of honor and dedication to his role, he still finds himself wanting to abandon his duties every once in a while for his daughter.

— and as much as he respects vincent, he knows that he doesn’t want to be the same kind of father he was; especially when he takes his siblings (frate, in particular) into account. so what he lacks in time, he makes up with love; but it manifests into the doting kind that can spoil and come off as overwhelming at times.

— it also manifests into overprotectiveness. even at her early age, nero has already decided she wouldn’t be married off like how fio was. and if she absolutely has to? then he won’t mess up the way vincent did; he wants her future husband to be a better man than ronald ever had been.

— whether the other parent is present or not, nero would definitely be the “fun parent”. perhaps not to the point of shoving the role of the “responsible parent” onto his partner or someone else, but he’s definitely guilty in being a little too loose. he indulges his daughter in buying her anything she wants - pretty dolls, expensive clothes and shoes, hair accessories - at any chance he gets. this is especially amplified after a period of not being able to spend time with her.

— he is still not above teaching her proper manners though; he still wants his child to grow up into a good person (as good as she can be in this environment, at least). so if there’s one thing he makes her do, he makes her take lessons in etiquette. even at an early age. mostly fio assists him in this, though sometimes he’ll personally teach her himself. when he has the chance, he does not want to miss any of her milestones.

— if the mother is not in the picture, he tries to do certain duties that are normally the mother’s duty. key word: tries. one particular example is doing her hair - he’ll try to plait her hair, thinking it wouldn’t be so hard, only for them to come out uneven and messy. so fio would take up the mantle on that too; even so, he’ll hang around, mentally taking pointers so he could do it on his own the next time.

— the first time she ever does anything on her own, nero weeps tears of joy. he does it in the privacy of his bedroom. there will always be a part of him that’s bewildered at how he - a ruthless criminal by several standards - has ever raised a daughter as wonderful as her.

— oh, and his daughter’s name? he wouldn’t use it as her first name maybe, but her second name is definitely credited for his mother; the moment she came into the world, he’s already decided she was little connie vanetti.

“amore.” there’s something adorable about the way frate vanetti’s face hardens into a determined stare, that elegant nose scrunching and those slender blond eyebrows furrowing; beneath your flushed-hot skin, your heart races, and you’re sure it’s not the cold. his hand clutches onto yours.

“i adore all of you, even your hardheadedness. but for your sake and mine, let me take care of you.”

“you, of all people, saying i am hard-headed?” your indignant sputter abruptly cuts off into a hacking, very ungraceful cough. even when you turn away, you can practically feel his disapproving gaze on you, knowing well enough how much he’s itching to go into a little “i-told-you-so” tirade. but for once, he doesn’t have any witty comeback to your retort.

instead, you hear the gentle slosh of water flowing into a cup and when your coughing fit wanes, he gently - tenderly, even - turns you to face him, tipping the cool lip of the glass ever so slightly against your dry mouth. his hand remains on your cheek, cupping it like one would a dove.

by now, his prior determination had melted and gave way to something else - as you lock eyes with him, it hits you that you’ve never seen him - so stubborn, short-tempered, arrogant - this earnest, this…soft. that hand cradling your cheek, fondness catching the light in the green of his eyes. your heart beats like a hummingbird in your ribcage and quietly, you grant him what he was asking of you.

ahhh barbero, pretty underrated. he deserved better tbh, he was only acting Like That to protect nero 😔 (i can go on about how angelo wasnt exactly infallible himself but i dont think yall would wanna hear it). anyways personal ramblings aside—

a bit more angsty than my usual fluff. angsty fluff. sorry for the delay and in light of recent events, please stay safe everyone.

barbero’s a logical, goal-focused man, so it would be safe to say that he’s not the most romantic guy out there; that doesn’t mean he’ll love you any less, though. just understand that he won’t exactly be a sappy boyfriend.

beneath that cold and collected demeanor though, i think he has a sort of inferiority complex; looking back on his resent towards avilio/angelo, i believe he secretly fears replacement. he won’t ever convey this to you, he’d rather not worry you and deal with it himself. though you can steadily coax it out of him, and slowly but surely, he’ll open up. just don’t pressure him.

in addition to that, barbero can be a jealous man. he does not fly into jealous rages, no; he would prefer to keep it under wraps, as he believes envy to be a petty emotion. however, it may cause him to be a bit more cold and clipped than usual, the more he tries to keep it down. it’s more out of his insecurity rather than a lack of trust. assure him that you’ve only got eyes for him and encourage him to talk about his feelings—it’ll be good for the both of you.

he actually would appreciate an s/o that looks over him. he doesn’t like being babied or anything, he’s very much a capable man on his own—but he doesn’t mind being cared for sometimes, especially since he so frequently forgets to take care of himself (he and avilio are similar in that regard).

barbero’s love language? acts of service. being a man who works himself to the bone, he knows how stressful it can be, thus he’d want to lighten the load for you and spare you from a world of stress. he’ll be there to help you with whatever you’re going through.

it’s also worth noting that while he’s not a poetic man, his words are sincere and meaningful; it takes a lot for him to express what he feels, so just know, when he does ever say those three words (“i love you”) he truly does mean it.

he knows that his job doesn’t give him much time to spend with you. his job puts his life on the line. one day, he may not come home to you. thus, he tries to compensate for this by writing you letters. nothing too poetic or sappy, perhaps, but they’re all personal and straight from the heart. sometimes, feelings are just easier to convey in writing.

despite his high-ranking “job” within it, barbero despises the mafia. it brings him shame to be associated with an occupation that stains his hands with blood. this would drive him to protect you from that aspect of his life; after all, the mafia already corrupted him. he doesn’t need it corrupting you too.

and even if you do find out, he wouldn’t expect you to be a ride-or-die for him. he’d rather you wouldn’t; he would rather die himself than have you die for him—he wouldn’t be able to withstand the guilt and heartbreak that would come after the latter.

because his job sees him arriving home late at night more than he’d like, he doesn’t want you to wait up for him. he feels as though doing so would be jeopardizing to your health.

and whenever that happens, he’s developed a habit of watching you as you sleep; mostly to kiss you on the forehead, stroke your hair, utter apologies and confessions that he couldn’t properly say while you’re awake, before finally drifting into peaceful slumber beside you. it’s become somewhat of a routine for those nights.

while barbero isn’t one for affection, he does love the feeling of your arms around him. it brings him a peaceful calmness that’s so rare to find in his occupation, and most importantly, he doesn’t feel like he has to fight for something so hard to obtain. in your arms, he doesn’t feel like he’s in second place anymore.

vanno was pretty good with children; he loved children and children loved him back! i mean, he knew how to cook, he knew how to juggle, and he was big and strong and (most likely) very comfortable to hug. in fact, he actually did want a child of his own someday, but he didn’t like talking about this certain dream; after all, being a high-ranking subordinate in the vanetti family meant he had to keep up that intimidating image he had.

surprisingly, he knew how to weave flower crowns and arrange bouquets. this was because when he was younger, he would make flower crowns and/or bouquets for fio as little gifts. he started out rather clumsily and his flower crowns came out lopsided and uneven, but he eventually got the hang of it. he made a lot of flower crowns for fio. she still kept some of them, even when the flowers were already wilting.

he, too, wrote love letters to fio, but unlike the flower crowns and bouquets, he never gave them to her and instead kept them away in a box for safekeeping. they spanned from childhood to adulthood, resulting in a lot of letters. only nero knew about this.

he used to be close to frate. when they were children, frate thought of him as another big brother of his and would tag along with him and nero; when frate was getting bullied by neighborhood boys, vanno and nero were always there to rough them up; whenever frate cried, vanno would juggle just to make him laugh again. when they grew older, they all naturally drifted apart (except for vanno and nero) but vanno never understood why.

he had been appointed as the family’s “taste-tester” at a young age, and he actually ended up developing a critic’s tongue. as a result, he was harshly criticizing when it came to other people’s dishes and was fussy over following his family’s recipes to a t; nero just gave up and ended up designating him as their unofficial “cook”.

where the other men turned to smoking or drinking to de-stress, vanno turned to cooking; when he abstained from drinking, he decided that cooking was a safer way to relieve stress. the scent of the herbs and spices would calm him down and bring back memories of him as a young boy, waiting to sample his nonna’s next dish.

one of his most prized possessions was his nonna’s old and battered cookbook, and he proudly displayed it on a high place where everyone saw it, alongside a framed picture of his nonna.

tbh, it’d take some time for vanno to process his feelings. like most of his life, his first love has been fio, and he’d only been truly in love with her so far; so when he catches actual feelings (that aren’t fleeting attractions) for someone else, he’d be thrown in for a loop.

once he does process it though, you can bet that he’ll do an old-fashioned way of courting you. think flowers, compliments, a few suave words here or there. nero and his friends would most likely act as his wingman at some point. once you’re dating, he’ll still carry on with that good ol’ traditional romance.

expect some surprises; it’s been said that vanno enjoys watching other people’s reactions, so he would most likely try to surprise you here or there just to see your reaction to it. usually through unexpected gifts or gestures. sometimes pranks.

speaking of gestures, he loves affection, especially hugs! he just enjoys how his arms can just envelop you. if you’re shorter, he’d most likely place his chin on your head; if you’re taller, he’d rest it on your shoulder. either way, hugging you is pretty much his other favorite way to relieve stress now.

vanno would spoil you so much; not in a way where he’d buy you anything you want (i mean, maybe he would, if persuaded enough), but more in a way where he’d take good care of you—if you haven’t eaten, he’d cook for you and make sure you eat more. if you’re tired, he’d carry you.

he’s a pretty affectionate person, but he’s lowkey embarrassed by pda; of course he doesn’t mind holding hands, or sharing a few kisses in public—in fact, those serve to show that you’re, yes, his (s/o) and that whoever has the idea to lay on the moves on you should back off, but if you sat on his lap or kissed him longer than a few seconds where everyone can see, he would blush and implore you to save it for later in private. especially since his friends would tease him for it.

he’s pretty protective. his job and his ties has earned him quite a few enemies so he’d want to be around you most of the time, or at least have someone to keep an eye on you whenever he’s not around. he secretly worries that someone with a vendetta would use you as a tool against him, or worse, hurt you.

he gets jealous easily. his jealousy is akin to that of a child’s—he gets huffy, sometimes pouty. a telltale sign of his jealousy is him eating a lot (think the wedding episode, where he was just plain out shoving cake slices in his mouth). give him a few kisses and affection and he’ll ease up a step, though he’ll still be lowkey annoyed at the person he’s jealous of.

the type to buy you a promise ring. someday, he’d like to get married, but wouldn’t force you into the idea of course. so instead, he’ll get you a promise ring. whether you two get married or not, the ring serves as a promise to stay together for many, many years.

for some reason, volpe’s a magnet to small animals. cats would go up to him on the streets and paw at him. he doesn’t know why either, considering that he’s not exactly an animal lover. still though, he doesn’t really mind the flocks of kittens that go up to him.

he pretty much considers tigre to be his best buddy out of all of them; they are usually seen with each other. they enjoy bantering and drinking together at speakeasies (though this usually ends in trouble). nero jokingly refers to them as “partners-in-crime”.

despite his handsomeness and his cool exterior, volpe’s kind of clueless when it comes to flirting; not that he’s hopeless at it, he is capable of being smooth. however, he’s pretty much kind of oblivious when it comes to people flirting with him and it takes some time for him to process what they’re trying to do.

tigre is (jokingly) jealous of volpe’s popularity with the ladies and would make frequent jabs about it (“hey, leave some for the rest of us big guy!”).

volpe is so awkward with children to the point that it’s basically comedy gold. unfortunately for him, they usually think he’s cool; what they don’t know is that his cool exterior is pretty much just thinly-veiled awkwardness.

he actually does enjoy cracking jokes, mostly sarcastic ones. because of his demeanor, people don’t really expect it from him, but he does have a mischievous streak too; he’s just good at hiding it.

he’s a stupid drunk. really stupid. a bit more affectionate too. he and tigre get into silly drunken arguments that they forget in the morning (“no YOU’RE my bestest friend in the world!”).

he honestly likes hanging around with the rest of the gang (nero, vanno, barbero, tigre, arturo, gianni…), even outside of mafia activities. he usually prefers being alone as opposed to being around people, but he does consider them as friends…his closest friends, even. not that he’s the sentimental type (he’ll never hear the end of it once they find out).

like with the angelo req, i wasnt sure if u meant individual fluff headcanons or relationship fluff headcanons, so i did the liberty of doing both. this is also the first part to this request (volpe’s must be done in a seperate post because of how long this one is). enjoy~

vincent’s been a distant father to him ever since he was a kid, so personally, i think frate’s a big mama’s boy.

he and nero used to fight a lot for connie vanetti’s attention—usually nero would do a magic trick and frate would counter with all the lessons he had learned lately with his tutor (unlike vincent though, connie never played favorites with her children; she loved to say that she was equally proud of all of them. vincent would reprimand her on being “too soft” on them, but she never stopped).

even though nero and frate had their fair share of squabbles even as children, frate had always idolized his brother. nero’s just so cool! so strong! so smart! at some point, young frate had even stated that he wanted to be like his big brother when he grew up (which all went to shit at some point, but because these are fluff headcanons, we’ll be saving this story for another time).

unlike with nero, frate’s bond with fio never broke; it had been her who took care of him post-connie’s death, and she never really stopped looking after him (which, as we all know, lead to the death of ronald). he will never admit it, but he’s always been attached to fio and truly wished the best for her (which is partly why he wanted her to marry ronald; he believed he was the best for her).

he was actually a sucker for hugs; it had been ages since he’d received one. he secretly believed nero gave the nicest hugs, though he never admitted that.

as a child, frate was a HUGE bookworm. connie had these old, battered storybooks of italian fairytales and legends and she read them to them at bedtime. soon enough, he was able to read them on his own (but when she was healthy, connie still insisted on reading to him before bed). eventually, though, the roles reversed and he was the one reading the stories to her, when her health was waning and she had to be confined in bed. the storybooks remained in his possession after her death, and he kept them tucked away behind his dusty encyclopedias in his bookshelf. he hardly ever brought them out because he was afraid he would get ridiculed (mostly by ronald), but everytime he needed to relieve stress, he turned to those books.

in addition to those books, frate had a soft white plush rabbit, similar to the velveteen rabbit. he had it ever since he was a baby and clutched at it until he reached his teens. however, he never disposed of it and kept it away, again, in his shelf.

he was actually an avid daydreamer. his imagination, as a child, was vast, and he usually had fantasies of becoming a valiant knight (like big brother nero and big brother vanno!) or being the prince of his own castle. he started to dismiss these thoughts once he grew older, though there had been moments where he caught himself daydreaming; not his childhood dreams of wanting to be a knight or a prince, but instead, dreams of a simpler time, when connie was still alive and his relationship with nero wasn’t so strained…

out of all of the characters, i’d say frate is one of the most touch-starved. his family wasn’t exactly the most affectionate when the situations changed (except fio, though once she got married, he saw less and less of her), and no matter how much he admired ronald, he wasn’t exactly a warm and caring man. so show him your affection (gradually though, as he would be guarded towards it at first) and he’d eventually melt into it.

no matter how arrogant he tries to present himself at first, he’s weak to all kinds of flirting and affection. give him a kiss and he’s putty in your hands.

he’s kinda insecure about his freckles (he thinks they make him look too childish), so any compliments about them or affection doted on them make him go weak in the knees.

he actually loves showing affection to his partner. he won’t be outright with it, but there will be moments where he’ll just slip his arms around you or sneak in a kiss.

he equally loves receiving affection too; in public, he won’t be as susceptible to it (or so he likes to pretend), but he’s pretty open to it in private. he especially loves kisses or laying his head on his partner’s lap, so take note of that too!

despite not being as open to affection in public, he’s not opposed to pda. not the overboard, mushy kind, but the subtle kind where he’d sneak a kiss on your cheek or intertwine your fingers together. it’s both a discreet way of showing his love for you and a way of showing others that yes, you’re taken, and yes, they should back off.

his love language is gifts. he especially loves giving romantic, expensive gifts to his partner, so he’d probably gift you the pretty diamond necklace you admired while window-shopping…or a box of pure chocolate truffles…or a splendid bouquet of red roses. only the best for the best, after all.

he also loves doting on his partner with fancy dates, so don’t be surprised when he takes you to an expensive restaurant for dinner and to an elegant hotel for dancing.

keep in mind he’s a son of one of the most prominent families in lawless, so you’ll be quite featured for a bit once you’re seen with him. he doesn’t mind it, he wants others to see that his beautiful partner belongs with him only, but if it bothers you, then he’ll demand for them to back off.

that man may seem like a stoic motherfucker, but believe me when i say that he is, in fact, soft for his s/o. it’s not really his style to be overly affectionate, so he would show it in small ways.

he’ll initially hesitate on saying those three words (“i love you”) to you, but once he finally does and finds out that you reciprocate those feelings, he finds that it becomes easier to say them to you whenever he feels like it—he loves you. you love him. it all becomes as easy as breathing because he finally knows you love him too.

he doesn’t like worrying you so he doesn’t really make a racket of anything, even if it’s at his own expense. usually this backfires. even so, he tries his best to not make you worry.

this man’s love language? loyalty. sometimes he would just stay by your side like your personal guard fox dog. would threateningly glare at anyone who leers at you. it always works because who would want to mess with a tall, menacing man with ties to a powerful mafia family? congratulations on getting yourself a bodyguard boyfriend!

he’d secretly enjoy flustering you. if asked why, he would give a vague reason, but secretly? he thinks your flustered face is adorable as fuck.

he enjoys giving neck kisses; partly because he thinks it’s amusing when his stubble tickles you. and mostly because he loves kissing you there.

i didn’t know whether it’s just fluff on his own, or with an s/o, so it’s both!

everytime angelo needs to clear his head, he just heads out on a walk, alone. usually out by the harbor, he likes feeling the salty wind on his face. if not at the harbor, he’d spend some spare money to buy some sweets to indulge himself. either way he usually likes being alone—he appreciates being able to spend time on his own.

angelo secretly has a sort of soft spot for children. they remind him of luce. additionally, there’s a part of him that envies them for how carefree and innocent they are, wishing that he could go back to the good ol days.

he loves sweets because his mother used to bake a lot for him, luce, and corteo.

he developed a taste for pineapples after his mother baked it into one of her goods—he eats it constantly because it’s a thing that connects him back to his childhood.

he’s not super obvious about it, but he really does appreciate corteo for being in his life. angelo thinks that he would have long gone insane without him.

he was a papa’s boy. between them, luce was the mama’s boy.

angelo is a guarded person, so it would take quite some time to get him to trust and open up to you. once you do get past his walls, he will consider you as one of the most important people in his life, though he won’t outright admit it.

he isn’t the type to convey his feelings through words, but through meaningful actions.

he’d be protective of you; not to the point of possessiveness or overprotection, though. however, he won’t hesitate to hurt anyone who threatens you in any way.

if he reveals his past and his real name to you, he truly trusts you.

he’s not the type to just say “i love you” willy-nilly, so if he says it to you, he truly means it.

whenever he feels stressed, he likes being by you. your presence just really calms him down.

usually, he likes having his head on your lap, while you stroke his hair.

he likes it when you feed him sweets. in return, he also likes feeding you sweets, though that’s a rare and unexpected occurrence.

he secretly likes being taken care of. not that he likes being babied or anything, he just likes being reminded that he doesn’t have to depend on himself alone all the time.

he mostly likes just spending time with you indoors, or maybe on a peaceful walk on lawless’s streets at night. his dates aren’t that fancy, he doesn’t need a fancy date as long as you’re by his side.

he’s not the type of boyfriend to lavish his s/o with gifts, but he does like giving you trinkets from time to time—usually things that reminds him of you, or your favorite sweets (you’d have to share the sweets with him though).

he doesn’t expect gifts from you either. but if you were to give him one, he would be secretly happy. especially if it were sweets.

once your relationship with him is more serious, he’ll get you a more sentimental gift, most likely a locket-type necklace, where you can insert a picture of him.

he, in turn, would have a locket too, though it would be more simple than the one he gave you. he usually secures it under his shirt so no one would ask about it—not that he’s ashamed of your relationship, he just wants to take extra measures to keep you safe from his lifestyle. he’ll keep a picture of you in it, occasionally glancing at it, especially if he needs to calm down.

so before i head on with the rest of the good stuff, i should introduce myself; yo, i’m fran (she/her), my main is @egoistexe, and as y’all can tell, i love 91 days—something that has quite a lack of content. and you know, as we all do with small fandoms, we make our own content at some point.

that being said, i will mostly do headcanons and match-ups for now. full-out scenarios will be an open option in the future once i polish my writing more!
