Happy Birthday, Christopher Eccleston! (February 16, 1964)
“The best thing about Doctor Who for me has been the response I’ve had from children, both in the street and the number of letters and drawings of me and Daleks, which are all over my wall at home. In all the 20 years I’ve been acting, I’ve never enjoyed a response so much as the one I’ve had from children and I’m carrying that in my heart forever.”
–Christopher Eccleston

Sign-up for the 9th annual DW Fandom Card Exchange
Hi all! Welcome to the 9th annual Doctor Who Fandom Card Exchange!
I am so, so sorry for the extreme delay with getting this event ready, but hopefully we can still have fun with it, even if some cards go out/arrive late!
If you’ve never participated before, this is a fun, low-key holiday card exchange (NOT a secret Santa-esque event). I know this is a long post, but please read the whole thing :)
If you want to join in the fun:
Follow the blog and track the tag #dwfandomcardexchange for updates (however, I know tracked tags can be super finicky)
Reblog this post to help spread the word!
Fill out this handy dandy info form with your contact information. Your info will NOT be made public; it will be emailed to only the participants of the card exchange, but no one else.
Please note that you must be willing to give out your address and a real name. This exchange is for physical, mailed-through-the-post holiday cards, which means that you need to be able to receive mail at whatever address you provide. You don’t need to provide your real legal name, just a name that will allow you to receive mail (some participants in the past use a different first or last name, but it still looks like a full human name).
You have until November 20th to enter your information. The list of names/addresses will be sent to the email address you provided. I will get the list out ASAP by the 16th to give folks as much time as possible to start on their cards, especially for our international friends.
NOTE: This is not a Secret Santa exchange where everyone sends one card to one person. You are not required to send cards to everyone on the list, but please send to as many people as is possible/comfortable for you. If a lot of people want to participate, and/or a lot of people indicate that they aren’t going to send cards to everyone on the list, I may come back and ask you for more info about who you are and are not sending to, just to make sure that everyone gets some cards :)
So that’s it for the sign-up part! Once I have compiled the list of everybody’s info, I’ll send it out to everyone via email and you can start working on spreading the holiday cheer.
Some people like to include additional goodies with their cards (in years past, I’ve received tea bags, doodles, ficlets, etc.) but this is completely optional. Do not feel like you need to go out and buy additional things. You also don’t even need to buy cards. Homemade ones are perfect :)
Try to make sure your cards reach their destinations by the end of December, though I do realize that the winter holidays are a busy time for everyone, plus this year this event got started late (oops, my bad!). Remember that mailing internationally takes longer, so it’s usually a good idea to mail those out first.
When you start getting cards in the mail and/or you’re sitting down to write up the cards you’re going to send, take pics and post them! Be sure to tag #dwfandomcardexchange and/or mention @dwfandomcardexchange so we can all see and join in the fun! (But make sure nobody’s contact info is visible in any photographs you take!)
And finally, here are a few reminders:
If you’ve participated in years past and happen to have the old spreadsheets of people’s contact info, do NOT send cards to people who may have participated in the past but are not participating this year. Only use the 2023 list I send out.
Do NOT put fandom-y information on the envelopes. Lots of people keep their internet life separated from their real life, and we need to respect that. Put whatever you want inside the card, but not the envelope
Fill out the info form by the November 20th deadline! No late submissions will be accepted since there is going to be a really quick turnaround of me mailing out the address info.
I’m so excited for another fun-filled holiday season! If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out :)

I wish I had a time machine so I could go back and show this photo to my little nine-year-old self, who really truly believed that the Doctor was real and that he and Rose would come and take me to an alien hospital that could make me better.
Christopher Eccleston is so incredibly kind. I told him how much Doctor Who means to me, that when I got sick it gave me something to believe in. I tried to rush through this, knowing that there were many people waiting in line behind me, but he paused me and wanted to know what I was sick with (CRPS) and how old I was when it started (9), and then he came out from behind the autograph table and hugged me for a good 30 seconds. While he was hugging me he said “You know what I think, you’re going to beat it. You’re going to become an expert and you’re going to help other people. I’ve been going through a hard time and this put things in perspective.” When I saw him again for our photo he hugged me again and said “You’re gonna beat it.” I can’t stop happy crying, I am so grateful.
He also said I was the first Ophelia he’d signed an autograph for, and asked if I’d met Billie (I have).
